recording an album with steve albini

I read in a book that he will literally record anyone who asks. So I checked it out online and it's true!

Even so, you'd think it would be mega expensive but I've been looking into it just because I've had nothing better to do, and I reckon it is do-able for about £4000 for a band of four.

Cheap flights are about £250 a person. Albini is about £320 a day, studio hire is about £200 a day, accomodation about £70 a day. Record for five days.

Now £4000 isn't impossible to make back, provided what comes out is good stuff, and you have people that will buy it. Even my band for example, I'm pretty confident that if we made 1000 copies, it would eventually sell out, and if you sell 1000 albums at £10 each, that's £10,000. Which would pay for recording, cover production, and then leave you some money to do it all again!

I guess the problem would be getting the money in the first place, but split between four people, its not that much to save up. I think, with a bit of determination, anyone in a half decent band could pull this off. So why don't more? Thoughts?
