Zan Lyons
Bio
A regular visitor to London's clubs and venues, enthusiasically absorbing everything from the politically charged rallying cry of the instrumental Godspeed to the heart-stopping bass throb of Techno Animal, Zan Lyons participation quickly graduated to playing live and DJ'ing. Often as likely to be heard playing his own unreleased tracks alongside his current faves, Zan quickly caught the attention of those paid to notice. An appearance in NME's On page was subsequently followed by a limited 7" (Moshi Moshi) of the now popular live favourite Suicide, a tumultous assault of distorted beats and random noise. Flipside, the downbeat 'desolate', dipsplaying a more thoughtful sonic approach. A further EP, 'Warring Factions' (Foundry Recordings) followed late '99, delivering on the promise of his by now blistering live sets. Builiding on a reputation that has already seen Zan appear alongside Elastica at the NME brats as well completing tours with both Nottinghams angst-rockers Six By seven and the more musically attuned Muziq and Luke Vibert. At just 20, Zan Lyons has already amassed a considerably weighty body of music, some of which makes up the debut album 'Desolate'. Released to much acclaim in May of this year, 'Desolate' is a dynamic collection of tracks, quietly considered strings orchestrate his self-penned arrangements, periodically punctuated with dramatically placed beats and loops, a suitable antidote to the noise for noise sake of his contempories. Desolate is also notable for the inclusion of two songs featuring long-time collabarator and co-conspirator Kweku Aacht, who joins Zan for vocal duties on the chilling Demons and Serial Killer Stories, a promising indication of things to come.
