The Lilys
Bio
In the mid-80s, a young man named Kurt Heasly was expelled from high school for repeatedly staying home with editing and sequencing software. A few years later he would form The Lilys, of which he is the only constant member.
Rumour has it that 72 musicians have been part of The Lilys since its inception, although Heasly has probably lost count, with members of The Icarus Line, Velocity Girl, Mazarin and Beachwood Sparks all playing their part at some point.
The Lily's only success came when the feelgood, 90-second summer anthem 'A Nanny In Manhattan' was used in a Levi's commercial back in the mid 90s. The single subsequently sold 85,000 copies and The Lily's became the first band to play totally live on Top Of The Pops for the first time in 20 years. Meanwhile, their recording contract was inherited by a major label's imprint and the subsequent album, The 3 Way, was brushed to one side.
After his wife left home one day and didn't return, Heasly has become a single father. His work on The Lilys has continued nonetheless, and in the summer of 2006 the new album Everything Wrong Is Imaginary, The Lilys' seventh in total, will be released.
