Bio
With the support of Sonic Youth and Nirvana behind them, Boredoms released a major-label album in 1993, which may be the most impressive thing about this almost unlistenable band. For several years, Boredoms have been the leaders of Japan's wave of noise bands inspired by Sonic Youth's early records and other artists from that scene. What separates Boredoms from early Sonic Youth is songs -- Boredoms don't have any. And they don't care if they do, either. Instead, records like 1994's Chocolate Synthesizer and 1996's Super Roots, Vol. 6 get by on sheer willpower and stacks of effects pedals and amplifiers. Vision Creation Newsun followed with more noisy quirkiness in early 2001. Unless one has an extreme amount of patience or enjoys listening to the sounds of heavy machinery, chances are they won't be able to tolerate Boredoms. Which is exactly what they want, by the way. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
