Bio
Pris_ was born of Franz Kirmann’s imagination in the early 21st century – 20 years before the actions of Pris_ the female replicant of cult movie Blade Runner (from where the name derives) took place.
Franz Kirmann has been writing music and performing in various Wave and Noise bands since the early years at home in native France. He moved to London in 2000 to study filmmaking and, finding very little time to start a band, he began producing Electronica on his own (with the help of a laptop).
But the demons of his past came back soon enough, haunting his compositions of 80’s melancholy and twisted Electro Pop which started to invade the more abstract and complex electronic textures of his work. A handful of songs where then composed, working with Parisian producer/engineer Ludovic Morin and musician/producer Tomas Almgren ( Hearts Of Black Science ).
In the early 2006 Kirmann felt the need to take the songs out to an audience, and for that he needed a band, thus Pris_ was born. “Pris is an android, a machine that looks like a human and behaves like one… I thought it summed up Pris_'s music accurately – computer made but with feelings and soul.”
A band was then put together and now comprises: Simon Smith playing bass and guitar - “Simon and I used to play electronica in the same clubs and constantly bumped into each other and liked each other a lot – I also admire the fact that he can speak French!” – and MsRosalita, an Australian DJ on synths “Ms Rosalita and I met on the Shoreditch party scene where she regularly spins some evil electro breaks.”
Pris_'s music recalls bands such as Depeche Mode, New Order, and the New Wave movement of the 80’s, but is also strongly inspired by contemporary dance music and band such as Black Strobe or Colder.
Their first release is a limited edition 7”inch of “Comes Undone” on London based label Club AC30. The song and its B-side will also be available to download on iTunes from mid-June.
