Nick Kelly used to be in the band Fat Lady Sings. Eighteen after splitting the band he began playing low key solo acoustic gigs in several countries, and released his solo album Trapezes on his own Self Possessed label in 1997. In 1998 Kelly was awarded the Best Solo Male Artist award at what his website describes only as "Ireland's most prestigious music awards".

Kelly has gigged sporadically since then, but it wasn't until 2005 that he released his follow-up solo album Running Dog.
