Bored, and in need of an excuse to justify their lifestyle and hair, Ali (guitar/vocals) and Bruce (bass) form Jetson. Drummers come, and go... like they do. But along the way, the band’s status on the local scene grows... fast.

It takes just five gigs before the band’s reputation leap-frogs them over other, more established local bands, and into support slots with up and coming bands such as Easyworld, Simple Kid, The Parkinsons, Rueben and Hell Is For Heroes, and a few old hands such as ex Inspiral Carpets Tom Hingley, The Bluetones and Shed 7.

One final change in line-up sees Dave brought on board for additional guitar and vocal support, along with Alex as the now permanent drummer.

Increasingly, a new force comes into play namely the fans. Not just any fans but the ‘Jetsoneers’, spreading the word of Jetson to anyone who will listen. Just a few months down the road, and the band effectively have a 100 strong local promo team.

Their first ‘profile’ gig on the local scene, supporting Easyworld, and more than an hour after they’ve come off stage, they’re still signing CD’s for the 100+ new Jetsoneers they acquire that night.

Sept 2002, and the band’s second demo ‘Intensify, Desire, Electrify and Defy’ finds it’s way to Radio 1’s ‘OneMusic’ team. Accepted onto the OneMusic site, they immediately go straight to No.1 on the demo charts, and stay there for a month. Almost five weeks at number one, and eventually totalling 14 weeks in the top 40. They also get more than one spin on the Evening Session.

Jetson start off 2003 with a bang, garnering airplay on Storm Digital Radio (broadcasting Europe-wide) and being one of only six bands selected by Radio 1 to go onto their ‘Unsigned Playlist’.

During a week of mainstream airplay, Radio 1 listeners are invited to vote for the unsigned band/artist they like the best. Once again Jetson go straight to No.1.

Hardly surprising then, that a number of labels notice ‘something brewing up north’. So much so that, regardless of the location, there’s been an A&R presence at 22 of the last 30 gigs.

With steady newspaper, TV and radio coverage in the North East, their position on the local scene is secured. Time then, to spread their wings.

Summer 2003 saw a whistle stop tour of the UK, and particularly well-received showcase at the 'In The City' conference in Manchester.

In December 2003 Jetson recorded their debut single ‘Social Hand Grenades’, to be released on TBA Records in April 2004.
