Autons met in 2005 while auditioning to be extras in the new Doctor Who T.V. series.

Failing in their attempts to appear as Autons (the plastic mannequins which come to life) they decided to form a band named after their beloved Doctor Who adversaries.

Autons have since been the sole support act for The Magic Band (Captain Beefheart's reformed group); have staged multi-media events in Arts Centres; were the first band to play at Portsmouths Spinnaker Tower; and have appeared at The Glitz, one of London's premier electro nights.
