Tempest
Bio
The high-energy Oakland, California-based band features a Norwegian singer with a double-necked mandolin, a Cuban drummer, an electric fiddle virtuoso, an imaginative bassist, and a guitarist with a penchant for heavy rock pyrotechnics. Together, these gifted musicians sculpt uplifting sonic art equally steeped in Celtic, Pan-European and American influences.
Tempest is signed to New York-based Magna Carta Records. In the last 12 years it has released nine CD's and played more than 1,000 shows. With an approach that finds it alternating between bringing folk music to its knees and rocking like the possessed, Tempest’s records and gigs receive consistent worldwide critical acclaim. In fact, the band remains in fierce demand by the world’s most prestigious music festivals including The Philadelphia Folk Festival, Fairport Convention's Cropredy Festival in Britain, The Winnipeg Folk Festival in Canada and the Skagen Festival in Denmark.
With an innovative sound focused on the future with a glance to the past, Tempest remains dedicated to forging new and enduring traditions.
