Talkshow

Bio

Brief Band History:

Talkshow are a refreshing four-piece, full of energy, melody and emotion, consisting of Damien Scott Owens (Vocals), Stuart Anstee (Guitar), Christian "Elvis" Perry (Bass), and Geraint Evans (Drums). Although the band have been together since September 1998, it's members have been close friends for a number of years and have played in various groups in and around south Wales. To date, the band has enjoyed varying degrees of success, playing various concerts around south Wales and London including such venues as the Borderline, the Bull and Gate and the Sound Republic in London's Leicester Square.

On the other side of the Atlantic the boys have charted in America's College Radio Airplay Charts , the CMJ.

The debut single "Stand Back I'm Armed", which was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth and Grassroots Studio, Cardiff, was released on November 6th, 2000 on Cardiff indie label, Complete Control Music. The CD also featured "The Fear Of Being Caught", which was used for a TV trailer, and the emotional roller coaster "Demon Heels."

During November Talkshow also filmed the video to accompany 'Stand Back I'm Armed.' The high-quality, low-budget promo received numerous complimentary comments after being shown on HTV's 'Shotgun Slide Show.' An interview soon followed on BBC Choice's 'Wrap' programme.

Other highlights in 2000 included playing the Radio One Live in Cardiff Fringe to a packed house, earning rave reviews.

Talkshow became the first band ever to play the Tate Modern Gallery when they took part in the Millennium Commission's Art and Culture Showcase of UK talent on December 12th 2000. The band performed in front of 1,200 invited guests including Culture Secretary Chris Smith MP.

The single, 'Stand Back I'm Armed' also made the BBC Radio Wales Top 50 for 2000. The song, voted for by the station's listeners, finished higher than releases by Terris, Crashland, Mo Ho Bish Ho Pi, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, and Big Leaves.

The current year has followed in very much the same vein. With 'Stand Back I'm Armed' still gaining significant airplay on BBC Radio Wales and Radio 1 Session in Wales, Talkshow were tipped as " the one to look out for" in 2001 by Red Dragon FM. The single continued to gain favourable airplay after it was play-listed on New England College radio station WNEC 91.7FM in the States. It also achieved 'Record of the Week' status on Glamorgan University's Fusion 107FM.

Looking further ahead, the band play the Cardiff Barfly on May 14th and then showcase their much-talked-about second single, Gas Mark 9, at the Cardiff Interactive City event on June 3rd.

Quotes on Talkshow:

Bethan Elfyn, Radio 1 Session in Wales DJ: 'Throwing shapes, gyrating and the look of pure enjoyment on their faces Talkshow were a delight to witness.'

Iestyn George, GQ Magazine Music Editor & TV Presenter: '...they are quite someway divorced from the standard Welsh-pub rock that's served up by so many bands today…the best band we've seen today.'

Huw Stephens, Radio 1 Session in Wales DJ: 'Talkshow took to the stage to rapturous applause, and, once again, they rocked. Since then their forthcoming single has been stuck in my head, an infectious, sticky, staccato-type tune, featuring the lines, 'and when the record company drops me, on the floor', which sounds genius live.'

Ali Stokes, South Wales Echo Music Critic: 'In singer Damien Scott Owens Talkshow have a star in-waiting. He oozes stage presence and rock-star posture...their sound deserves a bigger stage and it must only be a matter of time before they get major label interest.'

Alex Ogg, author, The Hip Hop Years & Radiohead Biography: 'three genuinely individual and strong songs'

The Original Sin Fanzine: 'One of the best indie bands we've ever featured. Not a superlative but a fact!'

Welsh Bands Weekly: 'Very, very impressive...'

Influences:

Too numerous to mention.
