Curveside
Bio
Band members names - role in the band:
Ashley McAvoy: singing and rhythm guitar
Andrew Plain: drums and percussion
Matthew Evans: lead guitar
James Hampson: bass and back-up vocals
Brief Band History:
For the record, Andrew, Ashley, Matt and James have been doing the rounds in Cardiff and South Wales since the late 90's, developing their unique brand of snarling, power-pop in front of an appreciative and growing fanbase. Support slots with The Stereophonics, The Crocketts and local faves like Melys, Derrero and Topper have all helped establish Curveside's reputation as superb songwriters and a formidable live band. In 1999 they contributed music to 'Autonomy', a poem by Patrick Jones for his poetry/pop crossover album 'Commemoration & Amnesia', which also featured Manic Street Preachers, Catatonia and Super Furry Animals. Andrew and Matt also played as part of Pat's band, with members of Topper and Derrero, at the Reading and Leeds festivals. Their biggest gig was supporting the Manics at the Manic Millennium in Cardiff, where the turbo-charged 'Autonomy' went down a storm with the crowd.
Influences:
Nirvana, U2, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Manic Street Preachers, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Life changing albums?
Nirvana - 'Nevermind'

What are your plans for the future, releases, tours etc..?
We're currently taking our simple little show to London, more or less fortnightly and playing for anyone who's willing to listen. Hopefully we'll be releasing a single in the New Year, but as we're also talking to several major record labels, we wouldn't advise taking any odds on what we might or might not do, as we are still making it up as we go along.
Curveside are appearing at The Bull + Gate (Kentish Town Road)on May 8th.
Onstage at 8.30pm
Also appearing are Spamfighter, Leaf and April.
