Blowback

Bio

Band members names - role in the band:

Dave Buck: Guitar, vocals
Russell Leese: Bass, vocals
Alex Nichols: Drums

Brief(?)Band History:

The band formed in 1994 when four friends Dave Buck, Tim Burgess, James Worth and Rich Rosson got together at school. The band started playing a few small shows playing popular covers (Green Day, Nirvana etc.) mixed with a bit of their own material that they had started to write.
They started to build up a following in the Stoke area and subsequently got a gig at the Stoke Stage. This boosted the band immensely so they decided to go into the studio to record their first demo. Shortly before the recording day, arguments broke out between the band members causing Tim to leave the band. The recording of the demo ('No More') still went ahead but was recorded as a 3-piece with Dave taking on lead guitar duties. From this the band gained gigs at the Crewe Limelight, Newcastle The Bear and again Stoke Stage.
The band were going from strength to strength or so it seemed until they were rocked by the sudden decision of Rich to leave the band. Dave then decided that it was time to give the band a total reshuffle so he took the step of replacing James with Alex on drums. With the addition of new recruit Andy Beatty on bass the band returned with a gig at Stoke Wheatsheaf in February 1997.
Shortly afterwards, however, the band were rocked again when Andy decided to leave. After all that had happened the band decided to take 6 months off to review the situation. They finally made the decision to recruit bass player Alex Bratt and return to the scene. Throughout the summer of 1998 the band played many gigs including the Rigger and the Bear in Stoke in an attempt to rebuild the fanbase. Once they had succeeded in doing this the band decided to take some time off to write new material.
With the songs in place, the band returned throughout the summer of 1999 with gigs in Stoke at The Bear, The Cottage, Riddles Bar and The Rigger, Manchester Star & Garter and Roadhouse and Leeds The Fenton. For the final gig of the summer at the Manchester Roadhouse, Alex Bratt was replaced by Russell on bass who then became a permanent fixture in the band.
During September, the band made successful returns to the Roadhouse and the Rigger before taking time off to allow Dave to settle at university in Leeds. The band debuted in 2000 with a return to the Bear and then in March appeared once again at the Roadhouse in Manchester supporting Warm. The gig was preceded during the day with a live session on Manchester's Space Radio 106.2FM where they played acoustic tracks 'Put Your Trust In Me' and 'Are you Missing Me'.
The band have since played the Rigger and The Crewe Limelight and at the end of May they entered the studio to record a new demo CD ('Bad Hair Day E.P'.) The CD has been well received by a variety of people and was described by leedsmusicscene.com as; "an American lo-fi sub-pop post-punk and seriously rocking affair". The title track has also been used on the official Stoke City F.C. video: Season Review 1999/00 which is available from the club shop.
Blowback have since been busy this summer with gigs at Blues Bar in Newcastle, Manchester Roadhouse, Crewe Limelight Club and The Bear in Newcastle followed by a support slot with Action Spectacular at the Sugarmill in Stoke on their warm up tour for the Reading festival. In September the band made their London debut at The Dublin Castle in Camden along with gigs in Leeds at The Rocket and The Royal Park.

Influences:
Nirvana, NOFX, Manic Street Preachers, The Clash

Life changing album?:

For me (Dave) it was Nirvana 'Nevermind' because it made me want to play guitar and be in a band.
