Let's Get

Oh, so now I fall intro the trap of replying...

I cared enough to vent my opinion that I could have been reading a review for a release that may appeal to the larger demographic of DiS users (it seems a lot of recent releases that would be in tune with, or of more interest to regular DiS readers, have been overlooked). That's all.
This stems from the fact that there seems to be less and less going on around here, in terms of interesting content, and relevant content, or at least content we have become familiar with and expect from DiS over the years.
It's all personal opinion, but I'm just finding myself coming here less often, as the content isn't relevant or of interest to me. This P.O.D review was simply the final thing that became the catalyst to my negative comment. As for time spent doing something I do love, well I'm at work, on a Friday. I'll get onto doing that at half 5.

And I'm not saying it's a badly written review...

Just that it would be more appreciated at Punktastic or Rock Sound... That said, I might be talking completely out of turn, and this could well appeal to many people here. In which case, sorry!

Why is stuff like this being reviewed?!

Is it just me who thinks it's a bit out of the norm, or are things completely and utterly changing around here? I mean, do you really believe the core demographic or DiS users gives a shit about P.O.D? I appreciate as a music website that it is appropriate to cover all genres, artists, etc. But this, well it just isn't the typical sort of thing to be reviewed around here, and seems like a waste of a review.

New Jersey was a great album.

Well worth the £8.99 I bought it for on tape in Woolies when I was a wee lad.

*but

but's?

I can't work out whether it's real or not.

It's not funny enough to be fake, but's it's certainly rubbish enough for me to hope that it is.

I don't either.

My friend recommended her to me a fair while back. I didn't warm to it then, and I've really not managed to shake that off now. Oh well...

Live, yes.

But I'm pretty sure that it's still just Meric Long and Logan Kroeber who class themselves at "The Dodos" on record.

I could go on...

But I guess those are my staple favourites.

The Dodos

Kings of Convenience

Matt & Kim

Mates of State

Colour.

As said by many, but a splash here and there would go down a treat. Other than that, I think it looks great.

Gossamer Albatross were great...

and worthy of a mention. As were Pyramids (awesome drumming), Jeremy Warmsley (new stuff sounds really good, thoroughly charming), Pictish Trail (love his voice), Let's Wrestle (on top form), Wild Birds & Peace Drums (I was drunk, but they were a perfectly upbeat end to the weekend), SSLYBY (I just really love them, shame there weren't more to watch)... and The Bowerbirds, amongst many others! It was great.

I had no idea about this.

For all the music I listen to these days, I'd be a liar if I said Blink didn't have a positive effect on me musically, when I was growing up - dick and fart jokes aside. Barker is an awesome drummer, I sincerely hope he get through this able to keep playing.

To be fair, you're probably not listening to enough music then.

I think the references made the by the Kaiser's is being directed toward the likes of other Tesco Rock and Topman Indie types - their kindred spirits if you like. Which, in all fairness, is (with a few exceptions) bands that are boring and crap. But you'd rarely see a truly exciting band capable of blowing you away selling next to these types on the shelves of Tesco, because it's a completely different market. Sorry, I just think that to agree with his statement is to overlook a hell of a lot of exciting and, well, not boring bands / music out there right now. In fact, I think music is more exciting that ever right now. Ok, this boils down to personal taste, but I really think you're overlooking a lot of great new music, a lot of it from this year.

^

Yes, it was.

I agree with you amyblue.

I personally love every album the band have put out. Sure, So Divided wasn't their strongest effort, and many people want another Source Tags or Madonna. But fuck it, that's not going to happen, and it doesn't bother me. Those albums are great, but I love waiting to see what this band are going to do next, even if it does mean it's a more linear sounding rock album compare to the early stuff. They still make music that is better by leaps and bounds compared to other artists within this, well, "area" of music.

Rival School?

He's the solo artist, not the band right?

You've just described my mate Gareth.

I hate getting in a car with him as I'm only guaranteed to hear Audioslave, Incubus or some other crap / past-it rock band.

How did I miss the release of this!?

Great review, I'm off to order it now.

Really?

Oh dear, this is not what I wanted to hear!

About time!

Excited, but apprehensive for this.

I'm quite happy that I'll be seeing Camera Obscura twice this year now.

Here's hoping the new material is good.

Very excited for this.

T'is all.

Shit band, shit name for a song, shit song.

I love YCNI:M, and I'm still pretty gutted that Mullen didn't go on to do something else as a frontman, rather than become a member of this awful awful band

Just got my ticket!

What's Union Chapel actually like? Can't wait for this.

Oh, and just to put it out there...

I personally would give the album an 8.5, maybe a 9 out of 10. On a commercial level, maybe a 7.5 or 8. There!

I thought a Lesson in Crime was a little bit "Meh..."

But I think it showed promise. I'm glad I maintained that thought and held out for these guys, because this album has quickly become one of my favourites of the year. I'm a sucker for well placed hand claps, and this album has them! But seriously, it's a nice, simple slice of Indie Pop that I'll happily play again and again. Don't agree with the review, don't think it was too constructive, but each to their own.

I think this is a pretty savvy idea.

It's the same as buying a t-shirt one week, and it goes into the sale the next... Except it's not really like that at all :-S
Anway, it makes sense when Mike metions paying the band, petrol, etc.
I've got an expensive week ahead with the Great Escape and couldn't really have afforded this. Seeing as I'm not guranteed to catch JoFo in Brighton, I'm now thinking "£5 is do-able." so this sorts me out.

And not just it's arrival in the post.

I'm actually looking forward to listening to it too.

No, Panda Bear doesn't sound like The Beach Boys.

It sounds like Brian Wilson. Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to this EP arriving in the post.

I completely agree with every positive about Gibbard and every negative about Martin.

It was said with regards to a couple of the new songs, nothing from Plans. Yes, the thought of Chris Martin singing 'I Will Follow You into the Dark' is horrific. I was merely stipulating that melodically there were elements from the new stuff that came across a bit Coldplayish, live, to me, anyway. I hope that my hearing is simply getting worse and that I was slightly disillusioned. I have every hope that I will be completely and utterly convinced otherwise when I get the album upon release.

That's meant to read "if you placed Chris Martin's vocals" not "is you"...

And it hurts even more having to write it a second time!

I really enjoyed the gig last night.

My one concern, and I'm ready to take a verbal beating for this, is that is you place Chris Martin's vocals on the new material, it would sit quite comfortably on a Coldplay record. As much as it pains me to say that, that is all I could think last night. I love Death Cab, I don't love Coldplay. Go figure?! I just hope once I've listened to the actual album I'll be pleasantly surprised.
With regards to the gig, my highlight had to be 405 and We Laugh Indoors. Really couldn't have asked for a better mix of old and new songs. I have come to accept that I will never hear Fake Frowns, Styrofoam Plates or Tiny Vessels live.

In aswer to my own question, yes it is in Manchester.

Thanks Mark. On that bombshell, Suburban Kids with Biblical Names best play a London gig. Preferably with Bearsuit.

Where is New Nentury House?

Is it in Manchester? Because all I'm getting by searching on Google is something very corporate that I can imagine such a great event is happening. If so, for once I am jealous that I live in London other than somewhere else.

I'm

not sure I can ever forgive them for Make Believe.

Replies duly noted.

I'll be sure to voice any annoyance that I may suffer at further gigs where our paths may cross. And yeah, I'm aware I'm whining. I'm a serial whiner. Sorry, the post wasn't actually meant to be so arsey, it had just been one of those days and I off loaded it here.

I couldn't get into 'Through the Windowpane'

and as much as I want to really like this band, and appreciate their vision and experimentation, I just always feel a bit let down by them. I think they're far too inconsistent, but they do have a few songs I really love. However, I feel like I will just let this release pass me by. The cover is awful too!

Also

could someone tell photographer Lucy Johnston that it's common knowledge (and courtesy) that you don't take photos past the 3rd song. She was snapping away right till the end, and it was getting pretty fucking annoying. Assuming it was Lucy, but I didn't seen any other female photographers with decent kit taking photos right till the end (Apologies if it wasn't). Otherwise, i enjoyed it, regardless of whether they seemed like they wanted to be there, they were incredibly tight (bar a few false starts), and the new stuff sounds awesome.

The sound

at Hoxton was awesome! Don't know what you're whining about.

I

actually LOL'd at that!

GOSH

are good for back issues, but FP pretty much PWNZZZ!!!1 for graphs. Plus we've just got someone to sort out the indie section, which has been really neglected.
