just a wee point...

"forgotten nineties comedian phil kay" is alive and well. going to see him at the knockengorroch festilval this weekend. man's a naked legend

re: the "new" CU bands

saw the phantom band supporting malcolm middleton and they were fucking superb. also the sluts of trust debut is utterly bonkers genius and mother and the addicts are great fun live. i think chemikal underground like confounding people's expectations of what kind of music they're going to release - hence the dance music sounding name.

and does anyone know when the lord cut-glass album is going to land?

which is the one that's all like...

"they're coming, they're coming and the want to eat my face"

or whatever. it was pretty cool live.

woah, just got to jigsaw..

...and darn tootin, it does sound a fuck of a lot like broken social scene.

on first album i am yet to detect a gash number.

i have also been dancing around my front room like a loon.

devotchka were on the little miss sunshine soundtrack?

i like that band. i watched that movie. how did i not make the connection?

what's that robert altman western that's all soundtracked by leonard cohen? that's pretty boss.

and surely someone is going to mention QT?

fuckin superb live

that's all i have to say

i went to see shrigley at borders last night...

he doesn't look like you'd expect him to

damn straight...

...about twilight sad being the best band of the festival. i even missed bjork's encore (and declare indpendence, dammit) for them. however, you guys were clearly slacking at the last minute. the way to do it was:
bjork-twilight sad-lcd sound system-hot chip-drugs.

fun. much fun

come on emma...

...get your shit together and get the album out. you've been playing these songs live for more than i year.

ow, and tell that lord "alun" cutglass to get off his arse also.

thank you.

i was...

...just about to say that. on paper it looks immense

"I question our country's foreign policy/and Wetherspoons no hoodies policy"

no!!!! you cannot rhyme a word with the same word!!! even if it is a word you're well proud of understanding, like "policy"

really?

i heard drifting featureless ambience. must give it another shot

sons and daughters...

are alive and well. saw them at the ballads of the book gig a month ago (they contributed a track to the album) and they were playing new stuff which sounded pretty good. i believe they're also going to be at connect festival.

um...

um, a quick scan of my i-tunes brings up tunes by bomb the bass and clap your hands say yeah, as well as "castle in the sky" from les mis. none of which are really about castles in the literal sense. surely we must be able to do better than this...

this...

makes me incredibly sad. great shop, great atmosphere, always great albums at £5... online shopping can never replace the record shop experience of browsing aimlessly and then just buying something random 'cos you like the cover (how i got into liars, incidentally)

what???

i could just about deal with when they cancelled the gig last month because they were playing indian summer. now i'm just pissed off.

how bout ...

alabama 3's hotel california, or dresden dolls doing war pigs. never seen so many people moshing to a piano

on the subject of pianos, ben folds' soulful rendering of bitches aint shit raises an ironic eyebrow

best cover of all time's still jeffy b with hallelujah though, innit?

the sick anchors...

...also did you always hurt the one you love.

fucking class

what?!?

delgados?

california uber alles?

fetch me soulseek immediately!

oooh, yes, i've got that

have you heard them doing rhinestone cowboy as well?

do you think it's possible...

..that maybe you just hate women? your rant certainly implies so

^da truth^

word

ooh, goody

i always liked their mellow stuff anyway. that song off the last one that went on about wanting to show you the stars and hitting the ground running was lush to the max

actually...

... the fact that none of the events in the song are actually ironic is in itself the one great irony. she's actually a genius.

...

yes, we are the physics are very good. hyper-fast, staccatto punk with matching outfits to boot. apparently the name is short for "we are the physics club and you must do what we say"

aereogramme live

fannytastic!

i'll be along to the glasgow show just as soon as i've worked out where the fuck the classic grand is...

my utter favourite whispered-indie-obliterative-metal-hybrid act EVA!

well, if i'm going to have to expand it to list...

1. let love in
2. henry's dream
3. no more shall we part
4. the good son
5. boatman's call

god, he's good

yeah...

nocturama really blew. just a weird blip on an otherwise flawless track record

you're wrong

it's "let love in"

Re: dEUS - Pocket Revolution

1) poirot
2) dEUS
3) jean-claude van damme
4) audrey hepburn (true)
5) the smurfs (also true)

see further www.famousbelgians.net

and dEUS are also part scottish (craig ward, guitarist on the last 3 albums, doesn't tour). even better!

Re: dEUS - Pocket Revolution

well, they've got three excellent albums before this (i don't count "my sister=my clock" cos its a pile of wank):

worst case scenario: debut, mad as badgers ballsy art-rock, featuring suds and soda, possibly the best song they've ever done.

in a bar under the sea: like that but weirder, every song sounds like a different band, ranges from summery pop-indie to jazz interludes to grungey spazz outs and occassionally all in the same song. propbably the best album overall.

the ideal crash: tighter, more focussed, more melodic, less weird, more the kind of elaborate orchestration on pocket revolution. contains some moments of incredible beauty, an album you can get lost in for weeks.

and to top it all they're touring in november. get your arse down there. i saw them on the last tour and they blew my tiny little mind.
