aha they are pretty terrible yeah
He likes his cheasy vocals though, 'walls' has quite a few (arcadia in particular). I dunno, maybe i'm just relieved that it isn't as big a mess as 'auf kosten der gesundheit' but i really enjoy it as an album, sounds like they had a lot of fun in the studio..
Four tet's remix of atoms for peace is indeed awesome, i'll check out the jack white remix, sounds interesting
Four tet's ringer Ep is great/ i love rounds
but yeah some of his stuff can be a bit hit & miss. Moth sounds awesome on first listen..
have you listened to the new moderat album? It sounds pretty ace to my ears, a really nice mix of the crunch of modeselektor and the more synthy stylings of apparat with a bit of burial style dubstep thrown into the mix...
awesome as always
I'm liking the Red Cloud Ep/ the slava album is dowloading as i type, thanks!
nice review
tbf even if it is a retread of some of the ideas of chromophobia i'll probably still love it..
i'm listening to it now..
thanks to emusic, it feels like the sort of album that will unravel nicely after some cocerted listening :) Some of it sounds kinda post-rocky ('nowhere' in particular kinda reminds me of explosions in the sky...)
Nice article!
I'v just downloaded the sight below Ep and it's sounding pretty great so far, perfect armchair listening :) This is definitely the sort of writing DiS should be promoting...
^this
it's an incredibly absorbing album, definitely one of my favourites of the year
errrm..
1) Why?- Alopecia
2) Grouper- Dragging a Dead Deer up a Hill
3) The Notwist- The Devil You + Me
4) Tv On The Radio- Dear Science
5) No Age- Nouns
6) Hauschka- Ferndorf
7) Deerhunter- Microcastles
8) Frightened Rabbit- The Midnight Organ Fight
wow some nice stuff
i really like the world's end girlfriend track :)
I don't agree with the sly dig at Max Richter
'Blue Notebooks' and 'Songs from Before' are both incredible albums that match Johannson pound for pound for emotional intensity/ despite the new effort being quite gimmicky it has some really involving moments
nevertheless on first listen this sounds pretty amazing, something to challenge the new grouper album for my late night listening
Hot chip were the single worst
band i saw this summer and i had the mispleasure of seeing does it offend you yeah? too (at least they got the crowd going). They were on after battles and before bjork and, needless to say, both acts absolutely owned them
stadium electronica *shudders*
that's a stunning set list
hopefully they'll play 'you an whose army' when i see them..
^This
Worst band i saw at great escape by
The Wild Beasts
were the worst band i saw all weekend, seriously terrible (the lead singer sounds like Mika for gods sake) + the time it took to remove all their equipment from the stage meant no age came on really late, which meant i was late for okkervil river. Not that i'm bitter or anything...
It was a great three days though, highlights for me:
Saul Williams (mindblowingly good)
Broken Records
Nina Nastasia (the taking of requests was a nice touch :P)
No Age (the crowd weren't amazingly responsive but they sounded awesome)
Bon Iver (first act i saw and definitely one of the best)
^this
DiS had Zap last time tho so i guess it makes sense...
should be good :)
no
just the berlin show (which i'm going to :D)
26
I
am i alone in liking..
"the spooky, crawling claustrophobia that occasionally threatened to engulf them on their first records"?
I'v got your number was pretty much my favourite song off of cast of thousands (that or ribcage)/ part of the reason i love Asleep in the back is that sinister clostrophobic feel that underpins it all...
but yeah i'm looking forward to this :)
aha yeah..
i agree; there isn't much incentive to go back and actually pay for it if you'r trying it out/ 5dollars is a bit low for a full albu (be it a purely digital release)
I'v never been really into NiN but i admire the way they'v done this, it seems lot more structured (perhaps learning from the saul williams attempt, i mean they seem to work together a lot). It certainly seems like a good template from which established artists could release their stuff..
I did..
5 dollars seemed like a more than reasonable price to pay for an album/ some money actually went to an artist i appreciate. I'm not an audiophile but i like to pay artists for the music they create...
i agree that it is a little lacking without a visual context
but 'prospectors arrive', in particular, sounds stunning even without the film context
there will be blood is definitely one of the films i'm looking forward to this year..
looks good
so far
i really should get a ticket soon
Brighton
please
this sounds awesome
can't wait for the new album :)
they really are
i'm guessing they'r mainly on that list because the lead singer is a sibling of one of the maccabees...
i really should get that at some point...
new song from the album sounds awesome too :)
^ this
Asleep in the back is just genius...
mmm, nice review
it really is pretty amazing..
looks like i'm seeing him tomorrow
he any good?
no low??
how strange..
*shrugs*
i thought they were pretty good live, some entirely unnecessary monitors on stage/ a bit of indie pretentiousness but the songs themselves were pretty catchy
there wasn't any mobile waving either strangely enough...
your contradicting yourself though
your first point was that they'v played the media off precisley by saying nothing and then you say that you hope thom yorke will shut up.
Truth is thom yorke hasn't really said anything about the downloading/ record company issue.. (at least not to my knowledge)
don't be so sanctimonious
XL and radiohead seems like a pretty good fit to me
all this bollocks about challenging the record industry came from the media not the band itself, what the download release did was pre-empt enivitable leaks.. instead of the album filtering out slowly eveyone got to hear it at the same time, a jesture i find pretty admirable..
Caribou> Panda Bear
by about a country mile
but then maybe that's just me...
ooh i'm already going to the idlewild gig
johnny foreigner- the twilight sad- idlewild
sounds good to me :)
hmm
i wasn't entirely convinced by the new stuff live but maybe that's just a familiarity thing...
ooooh
how v exciting :D
menomena
are goooooood live
haha me niether!
how bizzarre
should be good though :)
the artwork is pretty amazing,..
so's the album really, bit of a grower...
really really
good album
one of my albums of the year so far..
mmmm it's a lovely song
he has an amazing voice :)
ahhhh
the video is ace :)
a brighton date!
:D how v ace..
haha this was in the guardian today..
..probably the most sensationalist article i'v ever read in said paper
The sunday looks like a v festival lineup
but worse! in fact this probably would be v if it was a 3 day event (Except the friday on the other stage maybe)

Are you using Thom Yorke as a coda for Radiohead as a whole??
last time I checked he didn't have sole creative control over what Radiohead produce? It's a bit bizarre to attribute the creative processes of a band to one man, especially when you consider the talents of the other people present..
You make some pretty valid points but this is a really clumsily written article.
