Actually

where you stand at the Astoria does make a massive difference. Behind the sound desk is kind of good. Upstairs varies a lot. Downstairs is ok if you find the crosshairs...

Well you have NOW

But you hadn't earlier, had you?

8/6/8 seems a bit higher than the review hints at, but each to their own. From where I stood, it was more 6/8/7

I do tend to agree with you about LSF though

I said to my friend, they feel like the natural evolution of 80's / 90's stadium rock, with the odd left-of-centre punkier effort thrown in there

The sound wasn't...

THAT bad. Though it sounds like someone's day was if you really couldn't find something worthwhile in one of those 3 bands' performances...

Underworld...

should never, ever support anyone. I'd like to see Fatboy follow them...

I know

I'm sorry. I actually posted my reply about 5 minutes ago, but thanks to the wonderful posting structure on here, it appeared in the wrong place and 5 minutes later.

I expect you'll get this reply sometime on Tuesday

I haven't gone for about 8 years anyway

So couldn't really give a toss (and can see we share the same thoughts on the festival these days). I just hate the fact everyone excuses the main acts like they're not important. They're probably spending 10% of the budget on them... Lets just reread that list:

Kings of Leon - meurgh...
Jay-Z - could be worse, but still...
The Verve - Zzzzzzz

Probably because they dictate...

what the music / crowd at a festival is like?

I generally go watch bands I... you know... like? Each to their own though.

Sure, we all KNOW there's fields. And smaller tents (though you could argue there are better places to see more left-of-centre bands than Glasto anyway). And 3 hour queues for a shit. And other things to do.

But you kind of want one of them to be decent. I know for example that if the headliners were Radiohead / Led Zeppelin / Kylie, there'd be a lot more than 20 odd replies to this story

What happened to Kylie

For fucks sake? She had cancer you know...

God good

If ever there was reason needed to not pre-register, get up at 5am and hit refresh for 5hours solidly, battling against some psychic "allegedly poor" students and connnected city bankers in a desperate attempt to maybe secure one measly ticket, that line up is indeed it

Their myspace page

Is well worth a look right now for fans / haters.

The comments section is priceless...

Goddamn it

Reading some of the utter shite above has made me nuke my lovely 9" pizza. You bastards...

Here goes:

Why the hell shouldn't they (or at least Xenomania) get credit for writing great pop songs? How many people out there are capable of actually doing such a thing? Judging by the state of the charts, about 3. Pop music died on its sorry arse throughout the 90's thanks to over-sanitised cloned boy bands, and it's thanks partly to these girls putting the first and final fuck-off nail in its coffin that the UK has had a more indie-orientated mainstream music scene ever since. Alas, the same thing is now happening with that scene with everyone smelling the cash to be made, but yet they still continue to just be themselves and belt out progressively more adventurous pop music. The content of this song isn't one of their better moves (due to the sense of hypocrisy), but the sentiment is right. Some of the bands we're liking now are going to rank alongside Gay dad, Puressence and JJ72 in 3 years time. Whereas writing a damn decent pop song is a skill few people have - Biology has more skill in its innards than Paranoid Android in my humble opinion...

The reason they're so popular with people who have ears, is because the world sadly gets relatively few Jackos / Abba's / Princes in their time. Yes, I know the aforementioned largely wrote their own stuff, but whether its the 5 girls doing it or a team effort, I don't care - they're the ones getting it out there into the world. How many members of bands write anything of their material compared to the lead singers input I wonder?

I like Girls Aloud because after 3 years, I still hum bits of their first 2 albums. I wonder if you'll still do the same come 2011 with Los Campinwhatsitsface / Foals / Klaxons / etc...

U2-3D

I've got the Star Wars figure of him

Does this count as news?

I mean, Eavis loves this band so much he might as well just get them to move in so he can chow down on their dick 24/7.

Added to the fact that Greenwood's actually just saying they might register for tickets, and this is the equivalent of saying "I might have a dump today. But I might not? Depends on how much I eat really and if I can be arsed to get up..."

Christmas

is all about spending time with your Mum.

Or if I was born in another universe as a Yank, I'd actually just write "First" in the subject line

Yeah... well done there guys...

LCD Soundsystem

are miles off of being house music IMHO. House is often a more rigid, pounding type of music.

LCD's stuff is more instrument heavy, and harks more back to the days of New Order / 80's Bowie I'd argue.

"Yes we do my friend"

Some of us think that the second Arcade Fire album is good too, whereas in fact it sounds like a band who have run out of ideas already, and just upped their budget a tad...

We all suck ass

Don't we?

Radiohead... Quelle fucking surprise

Well the good thing is

that 15 of my top 20 records of the year are in your top 50, so that goes to show "great minds" and all that... And indeed 3 of your top 5 are in mine too.

But you guys, there has been some AMAZING pop music this year. You need to open your eyes and see that Pop is the future, and Jamie T is thankfully not.

I know DiS isn't about pop music, but to these ears there's only a thin line between some of those tunes and the last Rihanna album...

Call it "constructive criticism" if you will

x

Who is this band... Radiohead?

Are they any good? I've never noticed any articles about them before...

Really?

I have to confess to not hearing many of the above. I'll rectify that asap.

You didn't comment on how great the Girls Aloud record was however, surely a massive oversight on DiS's part?!

If you ever need a pop music correspondent, just drop me a line. Its the future you know - indie is SOOOOO last year...

Well...

You've obviously missed out the Holy Fuck LP and the new Girls Aloud record.

Some people...

I prefer

McLaren: The Twang - bunch of t**ts

I'd agree with nearly all of that list

Though I'd slide !!!, FOTL and Rihanna in there...

I must be being really thick here...

I know there is some "hilarious" gag hidden in amongst these words, but after reading this article 4 times over I've failed to spot it...

The Girls Aloud special Edition

is going to have pictures of them on the cover and all kinds of cool shit like extra tracks!

Now thats commitment to fans...

I like all three of them for different reasons

They're each one, long half hour track that kind of ebb and flow, but I'm certainly happier to have them than to not. Plus when you download the 3 of them, you get a megamix mp3 of all of them...

That article was indeed just before AHDO I think. These last 2 records have been frustrating. I like them both immensely, but I guess its saying something when you're still hoping thei live set largely ignores them...

I once read

a really good article about how little Emerson contributed to some of the Underworld 'classics', but i know what you mean. A lot of the beats have all got a lot more mellow in recent years. Then again, they are in their 40 / 50's

Glam Bucket

is great mind. About right. I'd have given it a 7, but the first 4 tracks sadly don't represent that terrible middle part.

The annoying thing is the Riverrun project they've done on the net for the last 2 years has had loads of great stuff in its depths. Its great they weren't lazy and just rereleased it, but maybe they shot themselves in the foot by not doing so.

Still, great set the other night. Not as vital as they once were alas, but still better than most of the pack (barring that terrible "Streets-esque" monologue

my thoughts exactly Chimpo

Please please please tell me Stealthy that you're not one of those folks that the world thought it had left behind in 1996, who believes that only tunes that soar from a guitar neck are "proper" music?

Yeah, so Underworld's music is largely stored on a bank of computers which they operate and sing over the top of. BUT THEY HAD TO WRITE THE FUCKING TUNES IN THE FIRST PLACE.

So, by the same criticism of this band, do you hate Radiohead (as 1/2 of their live set is now pre-programmed) / Klaxxons / Justice / every DJ in the world / most hip hop artists?

Hope he gets better soon

Twas a cracking evening out the other day. probably the second best I've ever seen them, and I've seen them a lot...

I hoped this was going to be about

the Eagles of Death Metal

I'd pay £950 for that.

Well... maybe...

Also...

didn't like "Nude" very much?!!? Not trying to be controversial, but reminded me of a whole phase of their work I hoped they'd left behind.

Also, "faust arp" so far sounds like the band covering The National with the vocal structure of "Wolf from the door" overlaying it. Or maybe thats just me...

Well it's ok

Sounds like where they left off to me. Bit jazzy at times, very low key (almost "eraser" like). Some terrible production in places, some amazing production in others. On track 7 right now.

Radiohead albums are best when you don't like them for a week or so, so in that sense it might be one of their best yet.

I can't see it being long before I'm listening to the new Underworld record yet again though...

A bit harsh

Agreed it is a bit plain by their standards, but without that terrible video, it's grown on me a lot.

Bored the arse off me

The only problem with this interview

iss for me, it focuses far too much on former glories and barely gets under what makes FOTL different. But it was a good read.

micromegas: "Mclusky were never a great band"?

I'm gonna have words...

Sure was

There's a large thread about it on the music forum.

Andy was in fine form.

I thought this was a distinct 7 or so

for the first 4 listens, then it totally hit me and made me love it.

Its a really good record I think

If I knew how to do the...

upward arrow thing and pointlessly write "this" - like someone who's challenged with forming their own opinion and sentence structure - I'd possibly have done so in this instance

Great article, and I thought you veered very cleverly away from merely bashing it to stating WHY you were slating it. More of this please.

And reviews of Rihanna singles...

Geez

Are these guys still going?

Shame...

And that, kids

is why you shouldn't take drugs...

top 5 bands

1. Liars
2. late of pier
3. adem
4. electrelane
5. duke dumont

everyone else was below par due to sound or just dull i thought...

I agree with all of the above

And thought this review was superb by the way. I linked to it after my own one over at www.tohellwith.co.uk

Hope that was okay, let me know if not...

oh gee I wish I could go to this...

Oh wait, I bought two tickets before it sold out!

How ridiculously "skill" of me...

You can't blame Field Day's organisers

for your friend having cystitis surely?

:-)

You're a poet

Yet you didn't know it...

More important things?

Than replies to threads on forums????

What craziness is this shit?

Barring scouting for a new Southend United striker and submitting a Girls Aloud single review surely nothing in the world takes precedence over an overly long drawn out standoff discussion...

Well its a bit worrying...

that people set up Facebook groups just to chastise people. Says the man who started a group called "Whats Myleene Klass done to deserve your love?"....
