ipecac
yeah i 'trust' mike patton's ipecac records, everything is at least interesting, and the majority of it is great
labels are the way to discover great music. period.
andrew wk is in current 93??
bizzare.
patton!
mike patton is also on a few tracks apparently,
this should be a bloomin' good album
hmm
The Mars Volta - deloused in the comatorium
Sufjan stevens illinois
fantomas - the directors cut
dillinger escape plan - miss machine
muse - origin of symettry
my morning jacket:
put a cardiff or bristol show on NOW
i think the big importance placed on new music is shit
i read an article in rocksound etc on a band who the writer claims to sound like various great bands (jesus lizard, fugazi, queens of the stone age, melvins etc) and when i listen to them they sound nothing like them - just weak, not that well rehearsed, over produced shit
bands need time to grow and all this early exposure halts their evolution and development because they suddenly realise that their current sound and songs are bringing them sucess so they stay where they are (musically)
i really cant be bothered listening to 'new' music from bands formed 2 weeks ago who dont know who they really are or what they want to achieve
fuck it im grumpy
at the drive in are just a little bit silly
astonishing live band but TMV have a more consistent vision and their albums are better
i for one enjoy some of the guitar wanking parts of TMVs live show
like a 60's comets on fire
and witch are v. cool, mascis is god
you have completely disreguarded the influence the collaborators have had on the album, patton admit himself that he cant do drum progamming and the beats on this album (mostly made by varoius anticon members) are amazing, same with what massive attack have done to 'kill the dj' - it is such a better song now.
i also dont agree that the song writing is flaccid, as pop songs go these songs are incredible, i cant see how they are 'flaccid'
suggesting patton creates unconventional music to sake of it is stupid, do you actually understand this guy and his motives for making music, have you ever read one an interview with him?
on a lighter note, peeping tom are doing gigs with gnarls barkly soon which will be VERY cool
chaz (the posh one)
also does sound for capdown
we were doing a spot of emo mocking at a music festival a couple of weeks back, we laughed at this one kid for the usual stupid hair etc, turned out to be lightyears singer very angrily threatening to beat us all up (he was on his own)
hes got a comedy pot-belly now too hoho
blue cathedral
is a seriously good album
frank turner is fantastic live absolutley hilarious and great songs, worth supporting
i think harcourt did fullfill his potential on his last album 'strangers' - its brilliant
and the others albums are certainly better than a 7 out on 10 rating
i also think his choice of his venues are very cool - converted churches and stuff - he seems to know what type of setting his music requires live
muse have become shit
Origin was very good song writing wise but absolution was the biggest pile of made-for-radio rock music for a good few years, they are money hungry whores now and the vision they once had has dissipated because they realised they could make a bomb playing shit music
they put token 'weird effects' and silly piano bits to get musos involved its all so transparent
bellamy has admittedly, got the whole 'guitar god' look going on whilst on stage which is kinda cool!
twilight singers are great
wish i was going
this reeks of stop-gap
understandably, i think they want make sure people remember them so in about 4 years time when they are likely to return, people wont have moved on
but that didnt happen with miss machine, so maybe im talking crap
bristol academy
these venues are bigger than last time
i wonder if they will fill them, i hope there not being too optimistic
V2 has released some cool stuff but...
i had problems getting some of their music through amazon etc. they seem to 'run out' of copies and have to press more,
happened with the new isobel campbell record and crimes by blood brothers
bad management maybe?
?
wheres mike patton?
j mascis?
muse are crap now
origin of symmetry is great
absolution is crap pop songs played with loud guitars and apparent 'spacey weirdness'
they're past it now
full version of what?
double nickels?
this aint no picnic
every song off double nickels is excellent in everyway, one of the best albums ever
no thats wrong
people should care about label politics...because in the current music world most bands on majors are being shoved in your faces constantly and are shit
post refused projects
what do people make of refused offshoot project Text? although its exhausting having to trawl through all that ambient-electro noise i think its got some great parts
and what about dennis lyxzens International noise conspiracy?
i saw them at reading fest 2004 and i have to admit they are the best live band ive ever seen at a festival - some great albums too
the best band of the 80's
no question
big business
if you look at the melvins myspace page, it says that Big Business have joined them..that means theres going to be 3 bassists on stage, 3 drummers, 3 guitarists and patton! OH MY GOD!
this band are the best punk band around
and if this new one has got the same mindset and energy as on the last album then this will truly special album - ive heard its even got latin parts on it
im vaguely related to this guy...
...and it makes me feel good!
this guy is excellent, not being biased in any way
and another thing...
tommorow hit today IS a good album and it wouldnt say its worse than 'since weve become translucent'
anyway...MARK ARM IS GOD
GREAT GREAT GREAT album
its up there with there best
great review
when Eavis says 'surprise'....
its usually totally shit. his taste in music is apalling
im hoping its Fantomas...
witch album
will it be released over here?
when?
witch
is that Witch as in the band j. mascis play drums in?
he is GOD
heres one...
Faith No More doing.......Angel Dust
~shudders~
TRIVUM ARE SHIT
im sorry but it has to be said
this is the reason why the 80's were so shit
tool!!
Tool are bbbbbaaaaaccccckkkkkk!!!!!!
THE REST OF THE BANDS SUCK
65 eclipses all of those lame scene bands
xfm is supremely shit
beecher
just read the news about beecher.............REALLY SHITTY
expect to see them in this list next year
tomahawk are GODS
new album out in march!
john stanier
..is also in tomahawk with mike patton isnt he?
right or wrong?
VESPERTINE is her best album ever!
closely followed by medulla
'nuff sed
the mars volta?ephel duath?
minus the bear? eh? eh?
and gorillaz new album is definatley worthy of inclusion...
i cant see..
any point in these people making music, theyre so business minded they may as well go design kettles - something which is useful and will keep their ugly crappy stodgy kiddie metal from ever being heard again
YES!
definatly - i saw them at reading this year and they were brilliant
theres a real carnival vibe going on stage and it brill to watch!
album
"There's no album deal yet but we'll see where it leads."
im counting on drowned in sound getting in there and offering them an album deal
sub pop
what you neglect to mention is that you can buy them all and have them sent to you as they are released (like a subscription)...its basically like what sub pop records did back in the day....
very cool idea
frank turner rocks!!!
ATP
mike - are you planning on doing a review of the All tommorows parties bash for those of use who couldnt go? would be v. cool
strokes
yeh, i know where your coming from on the 80s matchbox thing...either way i reckon its total commercial suicide from them....
