Patrick Wolf releases arrest statement
Sounds pretty cunning: let yourself in, pinch the family jewels, go home, throw yerself down the stairs breaking your own bones, probably landing on your violin for extra pain then get taken to hospital, big fat alibi, fence the swag 2 weeks later down Tooting market and buy a new ukelele and floppy hat. ;o)
Certainly explains why his clothes were so badly ripped up at Truck. Patrick should count himself lucky the Police didn't shoot him in the head before getting a statement - blighter looks a bit foreign to me.

Re: Misty's Big Adventure's big adventure
No wonder they smell a bit, only 1 bath in 3 months and then dressing up in all that sweaty gear.
London Bomb Blasts
Jimbob's DVD taping tonight at the Monarch is (obviously) being postponed.
Re: Man dies at Club NME
Look at the ground and say sorry.
Re: Ex-Slint man, Pajo to release solo LP
and worth it to work with Paz?
Patti Smith Meltdown: Cat Power, Orton, O'Connor, Shields, Bragg, Yoko, Flea, Cale...
I wonder if nobody told her she doesn't have to play EVERY show.
Re: Hobotalk - Notes On Sunset
Thankyou. Well if you're Hobotalk-friendly, I'd say check out Pacific Ocean Fire's new 'Whisky Fiction' EP, which I'll write up if nobody else does, it's bloody ace - a bit spikier and more alt-rock than Hobotalk but similar voice and melodies.
Re: Towers headed for their namesake? Not quite...
*I'm just so proud right now*
funny, the association of DiS with a story about ToL doesn't fill me with pride. ;-)

Maybe they thought he was too flakey.

They're wonderful - the first great Peel band of 2005.
Rejoice! Springsteen prepares new, low-key LP
Gutted I didn't get this story first.
Re: Brighton's big tsunami gig
Mostly Tom & Alex seem to be playing in Brakes, fronted by Eamon BSP.
Bonnie Prince Billy heads Green Man Festival
Fucking wicked. Best festival of last year, even better than Truck. Now EVERYONE will want a piece.
Re: The Broken Family Band - Welcome Home, Loser
It ain't personal, I only scored a copy because some daft stoned singer left it in T-T's car in November.
Re: DiScussion: Pete Doherty Newsnight
That's not an attack on him, btw, I'm just pondering.
DiScussion: Pete Doherty Newsnight
Hmm. Does James Endeacott, the A&R man at Rough Trade, who was/is responsible for breaking The Libertines, deserve to be singled out for personal attention here? Can it be argued that people around the Libs have actually benefitted from allowing Doherty's addiction to continue? And if an A&R man is the closest the industry gets to a 'line manager' for a band, shouldn't he bear some weight of expectation about the social welfare of his employees?
Endeacott scored a first radio play ever for the Libs (I think) on Radio 4's Today Programme, while being interviewed about something else. With hindsight it seems oddly consistent with Doherty ending up 3 years later on Newsnight - true rebellion maybe being the capture of the posh media. David Baddiell discussing Pete on R4 probably stretches their audience much further than an NME cover.

Killers to headline NME tour
Good to have an NME tour sponsored by Shockwaves, since haircuts are obviously the most important thing in rock right now.
Luna - Rendezvous
Can I just add, I didn't italicise the word 'of' at the end of the second paragraph, that was a bonkers editor. You turn your back for a second...
Re: Musical hero John Peel dies age 65
A dreadful loss. I'm shocked by how much it's affecting me, can't imagine how his family and those at R1 must be today.
The front line of our music world - the stuff we believe in and love music for - is drastically lessened by his death. r.i.p.

Time For Change tonight: free guestlist
Methinks 'Japan' = 'youdontknow', a well-remembered piss poor excuse for a political commentator from the comfortably numb hard right.
Ignore him children, we'll move upwind.
For the record, yes I watched it. And when even Fox News are calling it for Kerry, it's fair to say your man got a twatting.
By the way, I thought the VPs were more evenly matched and the gig suited Cheney, who probably did best. Doesn't mean I like the corrupt old cunt but he held Edwards off.

Re: Another month, another Marquee: London venue offers free nights
How can a free show be 'in aid of' something? promoter making a donation? pass around a big hat?
The Green Man Festival
No criticism of this review (captures the vibe nicely) but it's worth mentioning a highlight of Green Man was James Yorkston & The Athletes' climactic track, where they were joined live onstage by Fourtet for a brilliant stretched-out jam. And Joanna Newsom was ace as well - really caught the crowd.
After Truck my friends said: why can't all festivals be more like Truck, then after Green Man they said: why can't Truck be more like Green Man.

Floods & Hurricanes for Reading / Leeds
Well against expectations, Green Man was sunny the entire weekend and it only started raining as we drove home.
So prhaps there's still hope.
Or perhaps God's annoyed with Carling's ownership of the music industry.

Now that's driving: Plymouth, to Scarborough, to Hastings, to Bangor, to Brighton in 4 days. Keep an eye on whoever's behind the wheel...
DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!
Have to say this. Despite my being rude about the TMF booking earlier on this thread, Colin the DIS writer / booker just offered one of my acts a gig.
That is real generosity of spirit.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!
Fair dos. I'm feeling guilty now.
Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!
Of course they are - but if you're denying that filling an 'acoustic' stage with indie rock bands playing acoustic sets isn't a) defeating the point b) depriving the stage of variety and c) depriving good acoustic acts of slots, then you're in cloud cuckoo land.
Sorry I was angry in the first post. I should've either posted backstage or been politer and I meant no insult to anyone who's 'worked' to book this bill. But I stand by my core criticism - it showcases the narrowness, rather than the wideness, of DIS attitude.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!
Well wtf else is Antihero gonna do? They're a rocking bunch of rockers, y'know the point about them is they rock. ffs. Ditto Jetplane Landing.
DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!
A problem here: the DiS 'acoustic' booking policy - get the same old same old indie rockers to play token acoustic jams, rather than finding actual UK acoustic talent.
Pretty disgusted with this: a wasted opportunity to fulfill their remit. Shame.

Re: Jacko claims 'would be laughed out of court'
Wow. Lucky you're not in charge of the justice system. Isn't that libel?
Re: The Mercury? Predictable? Surely not...
The token folk act should've been John Spiers & Jon Boden with their 2nd album.
Re: Michael Moore - Fahrenheit 9/11
I agree, a bloody marvellous bit of writing: a better review than mine.
Re: Michael Moore - Fahrenheit 9/11
And even crispy hitchens' brother has said he's a liar. The key question someone should ask crispy is, does he still think Kissinger is a war criminal, and if so, why does he defend the administration that employs him.
Re: Michael Moore - Fahrenheit 9/11
Well, you're briefly fascinating. Such aching, vivid description of oral sex from someone who hasn't been with a woman.
But having had your mum already, I can't really stretch another of your fetid clan, no, I must up and move on.

Re: Michael Moore - Fahrenheit 9/11
Well I'd take Stevie youdontknow (the poppet)'s subnormal dribbling more seriously, if I didn't imagine it spoken in grimy lumpen tones somewhere between Jethro and Eddie Grundy.
Re: Michael Moore - Fahrenheit 9/11
Name one fact that doesn't hold up. When you say 'badly checked', the New Yorker's fact checkers and several legal teams went through every statement. And nobody else has found a single duff one.
Did you spot something the mighty American Right missed? Or haven't you seen it yet?

Calm down Stephen, you're embarrassing yourself in front of some grown-ups.
Razorlight - Johnny goes off on one
fwiw, new drummer Andy is a fucking genius. I've got a demo of his own stuff and it pisses on razorlight. Played an acoustic set last year supporting T-T and he was great. Lovely guy too.
Re: Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden
Thanks for an evocative review. This album is one of my 5 favourites.
Re: Kinesis: Dropped. Bothered.
I think it's 30% owned. I found Sean's response quite Blairite - saying pretty much what I'd already said but in appeasing, political language. I stand by my comments, which basically boils down to: bands, do your homework before signing a deal. Don't sign with a label if they've fucked up some potentially great acts.
I saw the K! tour and reviewed it here.

INDEPENDIENTE
BANDS AND MANAGERS: learn from this. Look at Independiente... Ooberman, Crashland, Martina Topley Bird even - should be a massive chart topper, how thick must an A&R/marketing team be to fail that awesome record?
BEFORE YOU SIGN TO A LABEL LOOK AT THEIR FUCKING HISTORY.
Independiente is the label of Andy McDonald, who put out the early Billy Bragg records in the 80s. Phill Jupitus worked there. It's all out there - you can READ the background and learn from what people have done and not done, rather than just jumping on a cheque and a promise. For fuck's sake.
You can do the same, with a little research, for Kinesis' management team and find out where they're coming from.
Hmm, maybe there's a book there about Independiente's recent history trying to break guitar bands!

Re: Kinesis
Definitely.
Re: Kinesis
Funny. Esoterica emailed me, annoyed they didn't get a mention. They should be relieved I deleted my comments about them and chose to wait for a more sympathetic gig. They were certainly not the best band on the bill.
