British Sea Power too wet for America? + Brakes news!
just back from new york last night. dont get me started on yanks.
No Surprises? Radiohead make the best album in the world... ever!
The sporodic odd choice, but other than that a very good chart.
A lack of good MOBO music in my opinion, 'What's Going On' is far too low. But there you go. And if this serves to revitalise CD sales and re-educate a demographic then it's a jolly good place to start.

Gen - I've asked 14 people about this venue thing, EVERYONE has moaned about it....nobody has embraced...and this isn't a musical point - it's about satisfying the needs of CUSTOMERS!
Dunno what the f*ck your second para is about...never incinuated as such. Get over yourself!

Re: Coldplay go supersize
OMG!
A) "EMI employees have families to feed too". EMI don't make much out of touring, it's the promoters and the band. I can only assume that Coldplay would prefer to play 4 nights at Brixton with an open air Hyde Park gig at the end of the summer if they could, so assuming it's a managerial screw up. Secondly, the vast majority of guys that work in music/fashion/film make f-all. We're talking under £25k, which you may think is a lot, but it's not...top tier management (for failing to embrace and police downloading, poor roster maangement and many other crimes) are paid huge sums of money. See Warner Exec announcement in the FT last week.
And Dude £38 for Coldplay IS A LOT!
The point of my post is this: Coldplay have two demographics, perhaps more, those "musical sorts" that simply love their music, I do. Emotive, fragile, compelling, epic and great melodies. For this reason, and like everyone i know - they want to see them in smaller venues. Wouldnt you? House wives and everyone else can see them in shitty venues. I think we'll end up with a Forum gig or 2.

Coldplay go supersize
WHAT?
You're completly missing the point.
By announcing these gawd-shitty dates EMI/Promoter/bands management have ultimately pissed off fans.
Not the fat 30 year olds....the 17-25 year olds...there CORE market. ...maybe their new album is u2 part deux....

Re: Coldplay go supersize
It's EMI and their promoter, partly hired through Coldplays mangement company no doubt. Didnt they play Earls Court for gawds sake...
Pointless.
Pointless.
Coldplay go supersize
Utterly obliterated about this. One only hopes that smaller venues will be announced in a warm up capacity. I suspect a Forum gig and I'll pay for it. Which leads me onto my second point, seeing Coldplay in Europe. Instead of this shitty London thing, Paris or Madrid perhaps. Does anyone have a link to the world dates...googled forever and found US and UK dates only. Have a glorious exam on the 9/10th so can't make Paris. Input appreciated.
Remember, it's not Coldplay, it's flaming EMI...

Doves - Some Cities
Heard the album in it's entirety for the first time yesterday. Review says nothing about the album for me. It's great too see Goodwin and co evolving, yet retaining the expansive sounds that we all adore. But this sounds like a creatively stunted album stuck together in a rush. I wonder how much pressure EMI put on for a finish date? Perhaps I need to give it a few more listens, but.....it really lacks that killer stomper that i feel we should expect from them. xxx
The Chalets
Diver - Difficult to read past your first para, why? It's just so darn true, bloody frightening. You've just described an entire female demographic and they really should be ashamed of themselves. Not cool and not hot. Do my head in. Add them to the list of "Gig Complaints" - along with couples snogging and TALL blokes standing far to close to the stage (thus blocking out everyone else's view).

Re: TV on The Radio pick up US 'Mercury' award
eeeeeeeeeeer,
did you see the shortlist? It was without doubt the most competitive and innovative list I have ever seen. YOU may think the Rice album is shite, but it's actually rather good. You ask the million people that have got a copy in the UK. Sigur Ros. SHITE? EH?
The list is an excellent opportunity for smaller bands to get a name for themselves on a bigger stage - and rightly so.
I'd also like to point out that the first NERD album, was the most undefineable album i have ever heard, and I don't think anyone that i have ever ever ever played the album too has said, hmm, yeah, it's all guff. Nadda, there is something for everyone.
Thank god for prizes/awards like this.

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...
Prince is rumoured to play EVERY YEAR. But given that UK tour dates have been less than forthcoming perhaps the rumour is true. I don't think Bono and co can be avoided this year. I wouldnt put a tenner against the Undertonnes not headling the Sunday night on either the JP stage, other or pyramid.

Re: The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now
I agree, far too many people feeding his ego and insecurity. Dangerous ground and he desperately needs someone to take him (Peter Doherty) by the scruff and sort him out.
Please, someone explain to me how the fans of Doherty/Libs can live with themselves knowing fully well that he's a junkie and paying for him to escape his recovery in Thailand to roam the heroine and crack filled streets of Bangkok? For gods sake.....
Durutti - It narks me enormously the coverage that these guys are getting at the moment, focused if not purely, then almost entirely on the issues between Doherty and Co, or Doherty full stop. Please, what about the other 2 guys. I thought McGee would sort this shit out - it's gotten a lot worse since he started managing them eh. Not good enough.

The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now
Fuck i love this band. Fuck i love this track. Fuck, thank god people still want to hear this stuff. So, okay they sound a BIT clashlike and okay they are on the front of every magazine ever. but, it's a) better than hearing who sven shafted and b) who viera will be playing for in 3 weeks time.
durutti - your islington comment is unfair. it's also not fully researched. and there isnt anything with a) rioja or b) those who drink it. give me strengh. if your main souce of beef is with those that drink red, then you really should pick up a daily and see what else is happening on your doorstep. argh.

he's rightly actually. my follow-up post was full of grammatical errors and spelling mistakes - yet no pisstake was made!! seen a million peeps on this board big up one another's reviews - so why not be negative too. it's fair enough - as long as it's not every single post eh!

The Libertines - The Libertines
when you say the album is poor, how is it poor? compartivily to their first or compared to "london calling". hate it when people say, just shit. pointless. and the review wasnt that bad - if you were paying a sub of £40 p/year then yeah moan - but dont blast the kid for trying, specially as you aint parting with ur student loan.
and age does mean a lot. "experience" is subjective, just 'cause you're 22 don't mean you're any more intellectual or emotionally aware of whatever than a 32 year old that still lives at home with his mum. age means shit. rooney vs henry/sharpova vs william (s)/howard vs blair.

Sad Muse News: Dom's Dad Dies at Glasto
think the first guy james pretty much hit the nail on the head -
Anyone Ocean Colour Scene our mastertapes? OCS lose early recordings
OCS are excellent at what they do, check out their first 3 albums to get the gist. just because a bunch of indie kds don't like their 60's inspired mod rock gish doesn't mean it's crap. just as because everyone wants to balsl bloc party or who ever, does that mean that they superior. no accounting for taste.
The Killers - Hot Fuss
so from what i have heard (dating back to july last year) they sound like a great band. one question to all a&r's: if a band has just great songs, why stick them in the studio with a producer who seems determined to make a duran duranesqu sound all over them. the songs are good enough to stand up and fight all alone. no simon le bon needed
