He is called Bogle
Born a prince called Sid, he was transformed by an evil queen as punishment after giving cigarette butts to her monkey. She turned him into a devouring frog that would always be hungry no matter how much he ate. Bogle sought medical advice from his kingdom's physician but this backfired when he ate the doctor's stethoscope which lodged in his eye sockets, leading him to become a combination of googly and bog eyed. A career in silent movies followed for which he is paid in his favourite foodstuffs; earwigs and eyepatches.
I'm just posting to say that I enjoyed reading the review,
I thought it was a good example of well thought out criticism without resorting to 'this is amazing/shit'.
Some things in this review I really disagree with
The main one being the way Alex makes out DJ's key back catalogue consists almost entirely of his work from 83-85, which I really disagree with and think overlooks a lot of good stuff, particularly from the rest of the 80s. I don't like the way the review attacks people who listen to his earlier stuff as if he's preemptively responding to those who disagree with him, dishing out abuse ad hominem. Also the review does become pretentious at times, the Some Things Last a Long Time guitar 'solo' is about 1 second long and has never seemed like a dead bird to me.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the review and it's interesting to hear someone else's opinion. It definitely contained a lot of interesting ideas, i just couldn't agree with all of them.
Let's hope the Cage family don't sue, like they did to that guy from the Wombles
WIKIPEDIA
* In July 2002, composer Mike Batt had charges of plagiarism filed against him by the estate of John Cage after crediting his track "A Minute's Silence" as being written by "Batt/Cage". Batt initially vowed to fight the suit, even going so far as to claim that his piece is "a much better silent piece. I have been able to say in one minute what Cage could only say in four minutes and thirty-three seconds." Batt told The Independent that "My silence is original silence, not a quotation from his silence." Batt eventually settled out of court for an undisclosed six figure sum in September 2002.
Yeah, I remember it being an ok article...
but if I remember right he said something like 'bands like Pixies and SY overshadowed better, more political music like Black Flag and Dead Kennedys', which was weird considering both those bands split up in 1986.
Still, it would be stupid to argue about an article from 2004ish that I've probably just slandered
Was it Swells who laid into Sonic Youth in the first issue then?
I remember thinking that review was a bit meh.
Someone post
Mike's review
I'll defend this
I watched them in tandem with La Roux in silence, I enjoyed the Tellier videos and it was funny to see how in the second set how much better one director was than the other
I know it's not original, but
Kings Cross!!!!!!! should support. It would both confuse people about the location, posters would let DiSsers know how to spell their name, and their manager could come back and tell us all about how they've made it big.
make that...

Maybe Matt is married to someone else, someone who's not his sister?
