Can I jag my face off...

...and say that we're releasing a CD&DVD combo thingy of a 20 minute song, called 'i dreamt i was a hammer & everything was glass' around October? Personally, I'm looking forward to it a lot; I have no information on anyone else looking forward to it, though.

It's a great thing.

On points of information, I should point out that Nicole, Rhiannon, Neil & Nick (of we, The Monroe Transfer) only played on "New England"; any other string-based noises you can hear are almost certainly courtesy of their own 'cellist, David Dhonau.

It's all gold, though. Hell yeah.

Aw

I really, REALLY like it when journalists do some fucking research, and write things that they've thought about. Mike- you're one of the few who seems to enjoy doing this. Top stuff.

Although I'd be lying if I said I weren't disappointed to see no mention of a certain "plodding math-rock band"...

New England...

...has viola, violin, 'cello & bowed guitar courtesy of we: The Monroe Transfer.

it's a very nice song, too. you'd like it.

I'm with Mike.

(Mr jmmber, it's very nice that you like us, and thank you for your comments. On previous evidence, though, Mike Diver's done much more for us than years of slogging through crap on our own; I think he's one of the few people in the world who have actually listened to everything we've done. Be nice to him. He's raising good points, and is an excellent writer).

Personally, I think a lot of self-described post-rock music really suffers by not having a melody. Many such bands are run by guitarists, who are more used to playing arpeggios and like finding funny chords, and there's not a lot of weight placed on finding a melody (and, to a lesser extent, countermelody & harmony). If I were pressed, I'd say that's what we try to do, and why I like our music.

</my 2p worth>

I'd love to have some comment on this...

...but I'd just end up sounding like a cock.

In my mind, I like to believe my group's music is slightly more interesting than most instrumental groups with two guitars and four delay pedals. I'm willing to accept this may be wishful thinking.

well, since no-one seems to be excited about this...

...i'll say "i'm excited about this".

and we're last on the big list up there, which makes us the least significant. if i'm this excited, imagine how exciting the more powerful players will be. oh yeah.

Who?

.

At the moment:

...it's "eclectic". Always, always, always used by lobotomised fuckwipes to describe their taste, when they actually mean "I own a 'Best of Classical Moods' CD as well as a Paul Weller album"

Surely what will happen:

- eBay charge a higher listing fee for eligible tickets, thus passing on the charge to the tout.
- if it's a Buy It Now, the tout increases the price to absorb this listing fee, passing the charge to the consumer.
- if it's an auction, the tout hides this listing charge as part of "postage & packing", and charges it to the auction winner.

eBay is thus seen to be co-operating with a newly formed Industry Body, touting tickets is legitimised, the end purchaser get pissed on. Again.

Is there any way

we can stop them?

Oh, I'm not denying that all their songs are awesome

Drums & Guns is still clearly a nine-out-of-tenner, if you ask me. Oh, you didn't?

I grant you, it's marred only slightly by the forgettable Dust on the window and Hatchet (which, I reckon, would sound out of place on any Low album). I still listen to it about twice a week, though.

By contrast, less than a month after its release, I'd actually forgotten Radiohead had released anything recently. Hmm.

What, really?

By my reckoning, Dragonfly and Murderer are two of the best songs in the entire world ever, let alone in Low's back catalogue. Hmm. This must be this "opinion" thing I'm hearing so much about...

I'm surprised at the lack of:

Drums & Guns (Low)
You, you're a history in rust (Do Make Say Think)

Personally, I might also have added-
Les Ondes Silencieues (Colleen)
North Star Deserter (Vic Chesnutt)
Tears of the Valedictorian (Frog Eyes)
Go go smear the poison ivy (Mum)
Vox Humana (The Monroe Transfer) (tee hee)

...but I also might not have.

it doesn't *just* say that...

otherwise the page wouldn't work.

there is a whole lot of whitespace, though.

I smell hoaxery.

if you've only heard the recorded stuff...

...i could kind of understand that- the single seemed a bit too MOR produced, compared to the squalling live show. but live...yeah, she good. very good.

not if it'll be as exciting with with a full band, though...

"We belong there"

Please stay there.

yay

We're curating at the luminaire on 26th. Still waiting for confirmation of an exciting headliner, but it should be a good night all round. Congratulations, all the Callas...

...

...and you appear to have signed up to tell me...what, exactly?

The band's name is actually Eddic...

...actually, no it isn't. It's Old Norse. "Eddic" isn't a dialect of anything- it's an adjective that only refers to the Prose and Verse Edda- specific works of Old Norse literature, and a word whose meaning has been totally lost. Just, you know. If you're going to have a name that's going to have people asking for an explanation, you should probably have the right one...
You have no idea how long I've been waiting for something like this to come up in general conversation.

Executed...?

Assassinated, surely?

we were asked to support them at the Underworld...

...but they asked us too late to cancel other commitments. i am literally angry with rage. at least one of us will be down there, anyway...
