Shaka is the name of the man who runs the sound

he played at Portishead ATP in 2007 and continues to run some of the finest dances across the world with one of the oldest soundsystems in circulation. Mighty Shaka, what a great decision by YYY to ask him to perform.

this makes me happy

very moving piece

RIP Jason

such a good review

well indebted as this album slays!

yes

yes, this is all present and correct. brilliant and wonderful band

totes obvs

well said

Metz have nothing on Pissed Jeans. the ugliest of all ugly bands...good to have them back.

I have a massive lo/hate relationship with E&TW

loved them the first few times I saw them at various festivals etc in 2011 and then was super excited for their tour in support of Violet Cries.
was a wee bit underwhelmed by the record but knew they were great live...all moody and affecting and what not. couldn't wait.

sadly, somewhere between the end of that summer and the release of the album, they'd become D U L L. saw them twice on the VC tour and it just never picked up from the ominous humm of pretty much all of their songs.

maybe it was something in me, but they changed from being engaging and interesting to listen to, to being trite and boring. a real shame, but I can't say I'm surprised with the 4/10

strong review, but...

why keep reiterating the fact that TBO is less "contemporary SotL" than their later records? this record has a completely different identity to Tired Sounds and Refinement - focuses on the actualy ambience of their recordings as opposed to the aforementioned grandiose and trancendental nature of the later material.

Ballasted Orchestra is probably my favourite SotL record because it doesn't revert to the meloncholy drama of the massive melodic swells. in parts it's one of the most moving records I've ever heard because you can't identify with the sounds coming from the speakers...it sounds utterly of it's own accord - drifting from one form into another, always sounding like McBride and Wiltze, just two bros wailing out on some drone.

so glad this has happened

one of the best ever. god bless you Yo La Tengo. this is a great album to add to the already impressive list.

that sounded amazing

you lucky fuckers

everyone's already said it

fab review. makes me want to check out Diamond Eyes as well now

love it

really enjoyed hearing the two "new" ones as Albainian and Gamelan when they played them live over the past couple of years...on record they sound so mean! the drone tracks are great as well...all in all, it's just so good to have them back making decent records. they've sort of "won" post rock.

Barn Owl are one of the main reasons I love this article

any word on what SotL might be up to these days?

love the last little bit

you make it sound fucking wicked. good shout

I thought thet sounded like Swans at times

i like this band a lot

A W E SO M E

nope

not happening. I have died and this is satan playing a trick on my big dead corpse.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(i typed that so hard I broke my E key a little)

Kahn's part of the Young Echo collective

they're producing some of the most innovative electronic music in the country at the moment...Zhou, Vessel & Jabu are all smashing it!

this is their radio show. do listen in: http://www.facebook.com/events/235761553157806/

oh my god

this is amazing. I can fully relate to your first sentence...

they deserve everything that comes to them

such a brutal band. one of the loudest, most intimidating gigs I've seen this year. like in a good way though.

///

shameless plug; here's THE NATURALS' new videp as mentioned by The Chapman Family: http://www.youtube.com/user/thenaturalstube#p/u/1/qtV4JIU9s2A

right

that's that then

aye thass sad

RIP

excellent

been looking forward to this for a while...chetted to Wiltze in Bristol at the Low gig at Trinity and he said he was psyched to be back making what he called a "serious fun" record.

the man can do no worng

that press release...

u g h

genuinely puts me off even though I know I'll probably enjoy the odd song. RIB was great when you didn't acknowledge their sore thumb of an "emo ego"

Love the Nick Cave Porsche dig

fun weekend. get better crowd control.

is ti just me

or has Justin Hawkins turned into a pirate heroin addict hybrid?

www.mypace.com/naturalsmusic

this band are playing with Trans Am on the 11th of July

a w e s o m e

Trinity is such a good place for them : )

after watching that

I've become pretty consumed with Fucked Up. I already knew they were good, but my god; such an important band. looking forward to this record : )

fantastic review

I think they took so long because they weren't using the whole 5 years to write the record

they've been sending out mailing list messages updating everyone on how they've all gone off and had children and how they've taken a well earned rest from music.

I wasn't massively into Trembling Hands when I first heard it a month or so agao, but early this morning, a few spins in, I'd pitch it against most other new releases I've heard this year. deffs gonna go get the album I reckon, about time I had an EITS resurgence, because, as so many have rightly said, they are purveyors of "those" moments where nothing else sounds quite the same afterwards.

(major gay...must listen to Slayer)

wonderful last sentence

I've not been bothered to hype up the new album. despite loving their older work and their live show being one of the best things I've ever been to, Mogwai's new one, plus the re-birth of Godspeed has more than filled my post rock cup this year (granted, GSY!BE was at the end of last year).
I'll give it a look in though, if not just for some ice cream

I can't get passed Woman, When I've Raised Hell

the repeat button has worn its way into the CD player...

terribly, terribly sad music. but it's amazing.

speedy recovery to the both of them

I've just gotten very into GGD

this track from about 6 minutes in made me jump out of chair full of more beans than I've managed to muster in some years.

ERRMAZIN'

fucking glorious

I wasn't entirely convince on first listen

Its certainly got a lot less joy in the bag than Bees. It sounds as if Dylan's attempted to write the most "soundtracky" album he could get away with if, if that makes sense. The songs seem more grandoise and majestic whilst at the same time, sounding more sombre.

Its definitely a grower. less immediate than Bees or Hex, but seeing them in Cardiff should bring out the good times : )

I like the droopy sounding synths

but, as is with most Radiohead to my ears, it sounds utterly inoffensive.

not to say its not nice to listen to, just gets a bit dull in th emiddle after it doesn't change for 3 minutes.

still, the amount of .gif avatars with Thom dancing like a plonk will no doubt squeeze a chuckle in the coming months.

I've not been this instantly grabbed by a Mogwai album since Happy Songs...

mid way through my third listen through and each track brings different types of shit eating grins to my face.

so good to have something new to harp about
X

Can't say I'm that disapointed

but that last paragraph of their statement was very touching.

cheers then Jack and Meg

solid review

I saw them play with This Will Destroy You and it was this again: the by numbers game (which incedently, I reckon This Will Destroy You just about managed to escape).

You can tell they mean well but it is unbelievably dull at times.

So EITS

really excited now : )

Yay!

If I'm dead honest I was a bit disapointed with the last record. This sounds promising though

gets really good

and then finishes. could be a bit longer, but i really like it. This new "fast" Mogwai is ace : )

sooo looking forward to HWNDBYW. stupid people at work have gone and downloaded it but I'm retaining my own silly moral highground by yearning even harder for it.

WITTR

great photos man X

Great interview

prompted me to delve back into Interpol's greatness! Hooray!
