I didn't realise people thought EE were a bit
any of those things. I think they're a bit great. Not sure about this Coldplay chat. Enjoyed the review though.
As an aside this is the 2nd time on this site it's been suggested a pop band is like Coldplay but better, when they're absolutely not. EE are great but not similar. The other was about Fun - We Are Young which claimed it is the song Coldplay wish they could write. That's utter utter horse shit. I'm not aware of any Coldplay song as bad as that. I digress.
no
he's much better than hot chip
seriously
I was going to ask if this
was not surely their 4th album. But after research I am told that progress.reform is an ep. Always felt like an album to me. No matter. Excited for this new material!!
this review = 0/10
I don't doubt the cast record deserves a low score. I'll never hear it though so maybe not. Who cares? Pretty much no DiS reader I'd wager.
Why bother reviewing this record at all? All I can take from this review is that Dan Lucas is most likely a prick.
The Antlers
yup! sonos please :D
I like this review but
I don't agree with it. The Rihanna song is most unpleasant (well the vocal anyway, the music is quite good) and I really like UFO.
After the blinding opening 4 tracks I have to agree that it doesn't flow as an album. I don't think Major Minus needed an inclusion on the album. It was fine as every teardrops b-side.
I personally would give it at least a 7.
Your opening line suggests
that nobody in Scotland reads this website. Or that Loch Lomond might be considered to be from England. Both options are stupid. So I read no further.
The title track IS there in original form.
It's track 9. The verison with Ian Brown came later and it's the worst thing ever.
I would do anything for you
I guess is "wet" in that the lyrics are overwhelmingly soppy but it's so hard to care when the melody on it is sublime. It's better than pumped up kicks. As is Helena Beat.
can you go about putting an s on the end of a band name
and claiming it for yourself these days? apparently you can. I'm going to start a band and call it Nirvanas.
boom
exciting!
(a little part of me hoped to see Hey Giles! featured on this but a big part of me knew that wasn't going to happen)
if there is a song on this album that recalls
country feedback and e-bow the letter then I have a boner.
good review.
i wasn't excited for this album
due to 2 previous disappointments. i'm excited now though!
this
doesn't make any sense.
biffy clyro
are a bit of a miss as well. they're technically from ayr but still. i guess idlewild are an edinburgh band.
^ not this
the only was this album is anything less than an 8 is if they put the wrong cd in the case.
SO GOOD!
team this review is wrong
+1 member
9 out of 10 for me.
i don't like being this guy
especially when the review is great, but I believe this is a 9. 7 is harsh.
i like it
i'm going to buy their record.
of course
and that all makes perfect sense. it's just i had gone from the paramore review (i didn't read it though, just looked at the score. naughty) to this one and this getting a lower score bewildered me a little.
at the moment
i'd take a beta band type career from them, cos i'm not sure they'll make another. monies and all that.
it's a shame you aren't as enthralled with this as the debut. for me forget the night ahead is even better, but i'm not looking at it as subjectively.
well written 1st listen! this album reads horribly!
but i wasn't really expecting anything less from them now. le sigh. hopefully this foo fighters phase is all a big trick to make lots of money, get lots of fans and then BAM! release the true follow up to Vertigo of Bliss and we'll all have a good old laugh and they'll poke us in the ribs and giggle "we had you going though didn't we?!!"
i did read the review.
and agree approaching it like a blinkered fanboy would be pointless. but approaching it so that it'll only get a high score (relative to other albums by other bands) if they make THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME COS THEIR DEBUT WAS SO GOOD is equally as pointless.
i seem to have become 'that guy' who moans about a good review simply because he doesn't agree with the score. but i'll take that on the chin and stand by my points. or point.
yes, just you
i REALLY like this new album. but i also liked their first two.
so what dis are saying is that
paramores new album is better than the twilight sads. sure the reviews are written by different people but none the less that is this sites broadcast opinion. Paramores new album is better than the twilight sads.
excuse me while i shed a large single tear of dissapointment.
ps i like paramore (dont tell anyone) but come the fuck on.
there's a typo in this review
you spelt 10/10 wrong at the bottom.
oh, sorry
meant to say, good list!
next ten considerations
oceansize, mew, belle and sebastian, arab strap, longwave, daft punk, coldplay, tool, the weakerthans. i'm probs missing someone dead important (to me anyway), but yeah oceansize and belle and sebastian fo sho.
^ not this
the entire worlds general population prefer the mainstream not just scotland. thats why it's the fucking mainstream (i presume thats what you meant by appalling music).
also mr reviewer you made some ludicrously bad choices in bands. maximo park over idlewild?! franz over yeah yeah yeahs?! kings of leon over crystal castles (or nick cave)?! and thats was only friday!!
are the band playing in the same room
in the complete dark as well? they're bound to bum a chord or note or completely miss a keyboard and fall over instead here or there
black wax
is a bit dissapointing, i mean it's good but no where near as strong as i thought it would be. they're tons worse without giles on vocals.
i guess i'll be the first
to agree with dom. okay band = no chance of making it. okay band + fit frontwoman = loads of attention/hype/big support slots/more sales and fans.
good review
6/10 is totally right. Gave it a spin, kind of liked it but went back to the new Appleseed Cast album instead (cos it's AWESOME), then in a few months I'll quite like this album.
And Worlds Apart was ace, I'm glad thats noted here.
hahahaha, i'm so silly.....
I read the score for this as a 7/10!!!!
moaning about omissions
on a list that we voted on is fucking ludicrous. please stop.
Meeting People
that'll write a book of half truths about you Is Easy.
well in edinburgh
death cab were fucking amazing, despite playing the most horrendous of venues. As an older fan I really appreciate the addition of early material. They played title track in edinburgh and while it fell flat amongst the majority present, it made me very happy.
woah, curveball.
it better be good!
sound @ idlewild
was horrendous. if they fix that it might just make it.
if this is true
i want my money back
hrmm
the post above was meant to reply to the bit about timmy reading on the boards that bob will play the first 3 nights.
hahahaha
that was me and i was taking the piss. did you not see the bit about flying pigs being the warm up act?
5 day pass ahoy
for me! but i was on the ball. they were gone by 09:36am.
this is going to be phenomenal!
they're still utterly brilliant
anyone thats seen their recent b-sides and rarities shows will confirm this.
seeing them in edinburgh on saturday for the 5925695645th time. still as excited as a kid at christmas for it.
the fucking secc!!!!
how times have changed.
the kids who rocked yesterday will pop tomorrow.
good review
truly awesome band. can't wait to hear this!
