Louis XIV swagger onto UK shores

Knew that link was going to be to the pitchfork review...

Re: The Pipettes - ABC

Hmm, see i really like the pipettes, and formed this opinion from hearing them on the radio first without any visual information. I like the 60's girl group sound juxtaposed with those kind of lyrics. Admittedly im a student (although not for much longer...)

Anyway in relation to their (and in particular rose's) attractiveness its just one of those things that people are going to comment on, especially given the whole costumes and co-ordinated dancing that the pippettes employ. The fact is that they're performers, and while some people get all high and mighty about how it should purely be about the music etc, bands perform live, and hence should put on a decent show, how they do that is up to them.

Re: The Chalets - Feel The Machine

I'd agree with you on that, its still not in anyway bad and i really like the video, but it doesnt quite match the same heights of their other material.

Re: The Chalets - Feel The Machine

As does kiss chasing, theme from chalets and pretty much every other song that they've commited to tape.

The chalets are fucking great!

Truck Gets Even Better!!!

Brakes!!!!

Wooo!

Saw them at glastonbury in the guardian lounge thing and they were fantastic, definitely one of my highlights. Shall now be seeing them again. Yay!

Re: DiS Summer Weekender: 2nd & 3rd July

Train to liverpool street from norwich and then tube, not to hard just takes a while...

Malcolm Middleton - Into The Woods

Absolutely brilliant album.

Does anyone else think that it sounds a bit like the folk implosion?

Re: The Boyfriends - The Boyfriends/Long Blondes s

I shall be there. I heart the boyfriends...

Re: Gonna stay young forever? The Subways reckon s

"All you lot...grow up?"

To be fair theres only a couple of people on here who've slated them for anything except their music. Admittedly the cocky comment is out of line if you havent met them ( i have myself met them briefly, they seemed alright). But on the other hand the comments about the attention they've recieved due to the bassist looks are valid, if missing the point slightly.

Eitherway, as i said above, uninspiring garage rock. Its alright, but i've heard better and i've seen better live performances. Personally thought that they were ok a year ago at glastonbury, but nothing great. Second time i saw them i thought that the chalets blew them out of the water.

Re: Gonna stay young forever? The Subways reckon s

I've seen them a couple of times: their much vaunted glastonbury appearance on the other stage last year, and on their recent tour in cambridge, where they were supported by the chalets (my reason for going).

Both times i've been underwhelmed. They play ok garage rock by numbers, but its nothing special and a lot of the songs sound very similar. Personally I prefer the von bondies take on this sort of stuff.

Livvy1 it doesnt make me a 'loser' to criticise a band who i just dont think are very good. Sure, i may not be able to do any better myself, or even as good. But equally that doesnt make their music good, nor does it invalidate my opinion. Furthermore, i dont just criticse bands, i also praise the ones that i like. If you're interested in checking this, then how about looking at my comments on the review of the subways and chalets gig in cambridge.

Re: These Arms Are Snakes

Shit, knew there was something i meant to buy tickets for...

Arrghh i have no money, this is not good.

Re: Patrick Wolf

Re: Pixies - Doolittle

its ride a tyre/tiger (theres a lot of confusion over this point) down the euphrates.

Re: Cambridge this June: New venue hosts new rock

Oh well, still going to miss it as i'll have left cambridge by then.

Re: Elvis refuses to reimburse fans after Champion

"I do find it weird though, when people go on about the "last train" Why go to a gig and miss the last 4/5 songs as a lot of people do? You can't really complain in that situation. If you want to go to a gig, make sure you can go to it, otherwise you'll just sit there worrying about missing the train all night and you won't enjoy it. I know not everyone lives in London and can get night buses back home at whatever time they want, but it's just strange. Even if it was a band I really liked, I'm not sure I'd want to go if I knew I was gonna miss the end."

What the fuck?

Did it ever occur to you that maybe people want to see the bands they like so much that they're prepared to only see half the set, but would prefer (if trains ran a bit later) to see the whole set. I mean for fucks sake, you seem to be suggesting that you should only go to a gig if you can see the whole thing. For a lot of people that would mean not going to any gigs.

Re: Bright Eyes and The Faint - it's a togethernes

Likely to be a lot of digital ash stuff (note the name of the tour), and probably some of the more electronica stuff of the earlier albums. But i dont think he'll only play digital ash stuff

Re: Ladytron

God yes. Read it now. Its one of the undoubted classics of the last century.

Re: Cambridge this June: New venue hosts new rock

It'll be over 18's im sure, as its going to be a club night with gigs affair from what i can gather.

But if they've kept the same bouncers you should have no trouble...

Re: Cambridge this June: New venue hosts new rock

This is all good news, although glastonbury means that im going to miss the rocks, and the vichy government which is a shame.

Re: SFA take their Love Kraft on the road

Not on any line up that i've seen...

:(

SFA take their Love Kraft on the road

Does anyone know when tickets for the birmingham gig go on sale?

Re: First ever Drowned in Sound download compilati

Thats good news, i look forward to it...

First ever Drowned in Sound download compilation

Given my preference for all things shiny and round i wont be buying this as cash is short right now and i prefer to get something physical for my money rather than a download that might disappear if my hard disk dies...

However i think that the principle is a really good idea and if you ever released a drowned in sound cd sampler i'd buy it like a shot, as some of my favourite bands were discovered on label samplers.

So yeah, good idea, but personally i'd prefer to see a cd at some point...

Re: Oasis - Don't Believe The Truth

Erm seling out the current tour due to former glories possibly?

Re: Redjetson 'Stay Comfortable' Free MP3 Download

didnt work for me either, but the one on the redjetson site does...

Re: Redjetson 'Stay Comfortable' Free MP3 Download

I dont really want to get too involved in this discussion, but that comment about the music you love isnt discussed is daft, in the last few days i've seen discussions on patrick wolf, four tet, !!! ...and you will know us by the trail of dead. All of whom you mention on you're profile. Oh and there was an interview with a silver mount zion who i presume you like given your championing of godspeed...

Sure the site may be lacking in news about said bands, but if theres nothing to report then what are they meant to do, make it up? This aint the nme...

Re: Bearsuit - Bearsuit: “If only we sounded more

Yay yay yay yay. Seconded

I love bearsuit so much.

The International Karate Plus

Reading that review has convinced me that it'll be worth queuing for snobs as a result of seeing these when they play in brum.

Role on the 6th of the july...

Re: Oasis - Don't Believe The Truth

I'd point you here for a positive review of oasis on this site....

Franz, Skinner and Robert Smith triumph at the Ivo

Re: - The Machinist

I agree, i felt that the cinematography was good and i felt that the tension was pretty well built up at the start.

Re: At The Drive-In - This Station Is Non-Operatio

Ahh come on arent you going to at least insult my taste?

Re: At The Drive-In - This Station Is Non-Operatio

"Tuneless, pretentious, melodramatic, shouty old bollocks for pre-pubescent twenty-somethings who swear at their parents and find the meaning of life in pseud's corner."

Funny that, i could sworn that you were describing oasis there...

Re: Squire moots Roses resurrection

Bright eyes isnt the headline on sunday, thats ryan adams apparently, so both would be possible if this was true...

Re: Kylie cancels Glasto after breast cancer diagn

Komakino join NME New Music tour... Sign to DiS.

Bearsuit

Re: VHS or BETA - Night on Fire

Better live than on record then?

Hmm may go see them tonight then, especially if theres more guitars...

Re: Coldplay go supersize

As kleeb just said, surely all the points that you dismissed do matter because they impact on the quality of your experience?

And cost is a real issue if you arent wealthy enough to be able to go to everything that you want, and therefor cant experience the music at all.

Oneida - The Wedding

Damn these!

I was going to see help!she cant swim in birmingham on june the first straight after my final exam ever, it was perfect, almost too perfect.

They've now been moved to the day before so they can support these, which means i cant go : (

Oh and i am clearly hardcore enough to go to a gig the night before my last exam, unfortunately said exam is in cambridge and the gig is in brum. Boo!

Re: REM, Bright Eyes, Nada Surf et al line up anti

The guy who did maus right?

Re: Eels - Blinking Lights And Other Revelations

Definitely, thats one of things that i really like about the eels, is that despite all the shit mark's been through and all the bleakness in the albums, theres always that element of hope in there.

Eels - Blinking Lights And Other Revelations

I like the fact that despite all the misery and depression he always seems to try and end on a relatively positive note. Like somebody loves you off shootenany, what is this note? of souljacker and P.S. You rock my world off electro-shock.
