the worrying thing for me is
that even if bloggers avoid posting stuff on major labels (who are the real evil force here - Universal and Sony especially) stuff we write about new and unsigned artists is liable for future deletion too.
I had a post from TWO YEARS AGO containing a track from Johnny Flynn deleted last week. This track was made freely available at the time by Flynn, so I posted it. This was before Universal even knew he existed.
So does this mean that sometime in the future some major label legal bastard is going to threaten bloggers / destroy their work just because they had the temerity to write about an artist that they went on to sign?
It's a shit situation, for sure.
a compilation
is the best way to enjoy Saint Etienne. They've never released an amazing album (except arguable Fox Base Alpha) but they have a whole host of killer songs. Bring them together and bingo!
I now need to find
where else I can buy these dill crisps that were on sale at the Swedish Shop
Mogwai and Godspeed did indeed play Bowlie
Mogwai were 'secret guests' in the middle of the Saturday afternoon, and their set totally overcame my previous Mogwai-scepticism. Godpseed were on at the same time as Belle and Sebastian, so I wonder how many people actually saw them.
B&S's performance there was possibly the best I've seen them.
There were coachloads of people from Glasgow down for the event. Even if you didn't know that, you could have probably worked it out from the empty bottles of Buckfast scattered round
the reason I make that accusation
was that my wife was twice totally blanked there whilst trying to buy a CD, whilst the blokes behind the counter served the men behind her. This happening once could have been put down to stupidity or negligence, but twice makes you wonder, eh?
it's usually sad when a 'proper' record shop dies
but in this case I couldn't care less. I boycotted Selectadisc years ago because the staff were up-their-own-arse pricks who hated women. If Sister Ray had the old Selectadisc staff, then good riddance to the old shithole.
The Rushes!
yay...
who?
Anyway, looks like a Feeling gig with some shit support. Festival my arse.
i felt sorry
for the people going to this festival, BEFORE all this this happened. I mean, did you see the line-up?
me too
it had its moments but generally a bit meh. Leave the indie lads and get back to the mariachi.
my 10
Bon Iver
Wildbirds & Peacedrums
Johnny Flynn
White Williams
The Wave Pictures
Islands
Things in Herds
Zombie Zombie
Neon Neon
The Mae Shi
No particular order, but I do love Things in Herds the most.
Well, shit....BUT....
...The Blue Nile!
Legends!
That could be brilliant!
re: The Arm
the PR blurb I got read:
"Forthcoming single and lead album track ‘The Arm’ was written in the woods by the side of the road following the band’s van having a tyre blow out. Marooned three hours outside of Montreal and following an intense thunderstorm, Nick ran into the woods with his guitar and it was ‘The Arm’ that poured out of him."
So which is it? London or Montreal? Are they just making this shit up?
My sprog
is going to run amok at EOTR this year
Glastonbury is better
on TV.
I can go to the fridge and eat ice cream and drink beer, and not have to worry about all these things above.
The Star of Bethnal Green?
That's a rubbish name.
I passed The Pleasure Unit on Monday and it was still called that. Looked like work was being done, but ready for next week? Who knows...
that's a shame
looking at the title I hoped it would be The Enemy and the Fratellis sharing a stage with Cliff Richard. A perfect match, I think
OOIOO
were in the first ads for this gig, then dropped off the listings a couple of weeks ago. Shame, cos that's why I was interested in the gig. Four Tet is boring live.
it's fairly easy
to get out of the car park. I did it every day last year. Just don't park too far in...
I don't know
With the amount of super rich millions swishing about in luxury hotels and appartments in Dubai, there's bound to be a lot of drugs around. It's probably the case that the richer you are, the more you can get away with. At least that way you can afford the bribes.
there's a lesson there
never go to Dubai. I can't imagine a worse country. A heady mix of super-rich wankers and crazy religious fundamentalists
MPs are going to discuss this, are they?
good to know that the people most qualified to pass laws on this are involved...
good news
loved the Akron support set, so whether solo or with band, should be amazing
what kind of music will iLiKETRAiNS play?
whatever it is, I bet you can't dance to it
I'll be going
Been the last two years and both have been great. Never had any probs oranisation-wise. Maybe apart from the bus from the station to the site. Otherwise, all top-notch.
Loon was allright
but I didn't think they were much cop live. Or maybe that was just down to the totally shit sound at The Forum.
my friend's house
he built his own mansard roof. they could chat construction.
whoa
I love Bjork, but enough to fork out 40 squids.
Not sure...
Alan McGee
was bigging them up, so I thought that I was going to really hate this.
WRONG!
the CSS cover
is predictably terrible. how did they think they could do Knife justice?
Is there a media furore
about blogs? One guy on the Guardian website sounding off about them does not a media storm make. Generally the mainstream media ignore blogs, probably deliberately. There's a lot of good writing on many of the blogs I visit, so it's not just about the free music either.
Basically mp3 blogs are the ideal way to find out about music. You can read about it and then listen right away. There's only so much people can write about about music...
I wonder
if they've got Prince's permission to use his name in that list. He'll sue their asses. Hold on though....
give it time
it's so worth it. this is a marvellous album
not enough exposure i think
good review though. I love this album more with each listen
it's not a proper gig
if there are no cops there, y'know
The album is great
it sounds a lot like the Delgados, but why is that a bad thing?
Here's a photo of Heather
for you that I took at the gig
http://www.flickr.com/photos/thedailygrowl/497018323/in/set-72157600213056392/
So he's gone 'big'?
hopefully the new album will be good.
I think
some of these are Emma Pollock support slots
I for one
am looking forward to Fiddy's 'Satan album'. Wonder what the track titles will be?
Yay!
A festival 10 minutes walk from my house! And with that line up! I like!
Aargh!
I just paid top dollar for the 10 inch of The Lang Toun on ebay cos I couldn't get it anywhere else! And now this! Oh well, it's still all good I guess...
I wasn't that bothered
about Hammersmith Apollo, or even the Astoria. But the Spitz - that's a cause worth fighting for! Sign me up for whatever.
Probably won't make any difference, but I don't want to see it go without a fight...
I've been to Texas
People there wear cowboy hats and spurs without any sense or irony. They may well be backward, but they certainly are wierd.
But that 'eat half a ton of steak and you get it free' thing they have - genius.
their new album
is brilliant
Marvin Gaye sue them?
That would be interesting...
yeah odd
brittlesticks is the best thing they've done. shame to leave it off
I can't wait to see
what arcane subject they're going to tackle next
