Kaisers lead Mercury race

I'd like it if the mercury music prize came alive and ate the Kaiser Chiefs.

Influential journo Al Aronowitz dies

Hunter S Thomson and co. learn the rules of writing and journalism before they broke them with Gonzo. Too many people try Gonzo journalism without knowing what rules they are breaking first.

Editors - The Back Room

I think you may have misunderstood that Oscar Wilde quote.

These guys are white-guy adventure hippies. No genius here.

Kano - Home Sweet Home

Nice review.

Mercury Music Prize Nominations Announced

I laid a 20 down for MIA at 10/1.

I think the panel chose a lot of the bands hyped by NME because a lot of people are buying into that right now and it'll raise the profile and generate a bit more attention. But after Franz Ferdinand winning last year I think this year it'll go to an 'Urban' act.

M.I.A is the perfect candidate. They love the whole "this award will help the sales of X" line. And M.I.A hasn't sold much at all. Her first week sales were dire. She hasn't hit the charts.

Add that to her profile as the converging of some of the most interesting styles in music around the world (dancehall, reggaeton, baile funk, e.t.c) and personal background and it's hard to see her not winning to be honest.

Well, here's hoping my rationale earns me 220 quid anyway.

SLEATER KINNEY THE WOODS

THE MOUNTAIN GOATS - THE SUNSET TREE

MISSY ELLIOT - THE COOKBOOK

amend, and go forth.

la la la

Quit and not U

Not really that suprised, probably a good time to call it quits too.

And I too saw them on a boat.

Orange Juice - The Glasgow School

The missing link between John Lydon's Nascant snarl and Anthony Kiedis fun-for-all-the-family stadium-sized drawl is 'Metal Box' and 'Entertainment'.

Good album though.

Saint Etienne - Tales From Turnpike House

XENOMANIA

Foo Fighters - In Your Honour

Let me just make this crystal fucking clear for you, because not only are you unable to read between the lines, but you're are incapable of reading the lines that are already there. So here you go, an early christmas present:

"Real rock music is supposed to rock"

Notice that word 'Real' there? Yeah, me too.

Anyway, I don't wanna drag this out, i've said what i wanted to.

Foo Fighters - In Your Honour

You hit no nerve in so far as i don't feel anything for Foo Fighters. I had no plans to pick this album up anyway. But you hit a nerve with your review being utter guff.

I can see what you were trying to do with this review. And it wouldn't be so bad if you didn't fail so miserably at it. You're trying to say something new about rock music in the 21st century. Any interesting points you try to make are baseless re-hashings of what has been said a million times before. It was trite then and it's trite now, just don't do it.

"Two cans of Red Bull and a cigarette later I’m back in the land of the living"

I wasn't going to mention this, but whatever, calling me a Q reviewer entitles me to hit this shit. I see you're trying some kind of Gonzo thing here. You know, where the reviewer talks about himself? Heh, yeah. But who cares about you? Who are you? This schtick only worked for about half-a-dozen journalists in the 70s and ever since has been an embarassing staple of student writing. So congratulations, you're in that particular club at least. At least take some acid or crystal meth or something. Fuck yourself up if you wanna make it interesting.

And if you already thought that what Foo Fighters do is mediocre then why waste space reviewing the damn thing in the first place?

I just think you tried to take your review in too many directions without finding a cohesive element to tie it all together.

Foo Fighters - In Your Honour

This is a pretty poor review. Making 'Sounds like...crossed with...meets' comparisons is about as lazy and trite as you can get. And you dropped about as many names as possible here. Yeah anyone whose heard Cheap Trick with know that Foo Fighters sound like them, you don't need to spell it out.

"Real rock music is supposed to rock"

Let me give you a clue, bub - because you won't find it scrabbling down there in the dark ages. ALL music is 'real' music. Stop imposing your set of values on your review. Take the album for what it is. You seem to manage to name the influences and set out what Foo Fighters are trying to do. So why not review how successfully they do that? Why not talk about the Double Album format? What is that conversation at the start of the review? Is there any point to the conversation? What point are you illuminating with that insipid half-baked shit?

Go read some more music reviews, learn your fucking trade, or go back to bed and wet it some more.

A Month in Records: May 2005

Do you guys ever wanna review another Mountain Goats album? Because the new one is one of the best things this year. Stop sleeping on it.

At The Drive-In - This Station Is Non-Operational

Of course you could just get all the Drive Like Jehu albums and be done with it.

Nine Inch Nails - The Hand That Feeds

This isn't as good as the 'Perfect Drug' single. Infact, it's probably the worst track on the album.

BUT, the album is great.

ATD-I anthology finally sees the light of day

i'd rather see a collection of b-sides live takes and demos/hard to find stuff. With a DVD of live footage and TV performances.

This is useless to anybody who has the cds.

Annie - Anniemal

Yeah, It's a real shame that nobody seems to be picking up on Annie at all :(

Still love this album.

Be Your Own Pet - London beckons for the 'hottest

it's a pretty bad band name

i heard that XL have signed them?!

Dinosaur Jr - Dinosaur / You're Living All Over Me

Where You Been is stil my favourite though.

DiS @ TMF: Wanna Play?

whoops ;)

DiS @ TMF: Wanna Play?

Uh, i just tried to email 'discolin@hotmail.com' and it got sent back (possibly because the mailbox is full). Is there any other adress i could get in contact with?

The tune tracker: The public makes An Honest Mista

Hilarious.

keep making jokes.

The tune tracker: The public makes An Honest Mista

The new coldplay song manages to make Kraftwerk sound EXACTLY like U2. And for the chorus it steals the "breaking my back just to know your name" part of that Killers song. Nice one coldplay...

Jason Molina brings Magnolia Electric Co. to UK

magnolia electric co. is songs:ohia.

Molina changed the name in 2003 with the release of...'Magnolia Electric Co.'

Radiohead drummer takes a Dive Dive

Why are they doing signings though?

They aren't exactly famous.

New old single from Annie

Anniemal was probably my favourite album of 2004.

all you corny indie fucks might note 'My Heartbeat' as Pitchforkmedia's #1 track of 2004.

Also, the album is a rerelease. It was released october 2004 on the sly then withdrawn.

Mclusky split

Yep, Falkous has said they are prepping a Singles/B-sides and a live disc. Upwards o 50 tracks, but they want to price it the same as a regular album so we don't feel ripped off. Good ol' mclusky.

Annie - Heartbeat

My favourite song of the year from my favourite album of the year.

Fucking shitty writing too. You spacker.

Busted - is the end nigh?

Busted is like...100 times better than most of the shit DiS covers these days.

Frances The Mute: revealed!

Dear, Micheal, Diver please, take a course, in writing, this is, terrible.

"Distorted vocals, again, close the song, only this time they’re positively evil, like a cartoon villain or something."

Lazy, poor grammer and full of hyperbole.

you're not trying to write for the NME are you?

Pantera guitarist shot dead

wait

he was 'eventually killed himself'.

BY WHO!?

Mars Volta to release one-track album

Not all music is 'coheed and cambria'.

i have it on good authority that many, many bands love playing and push the boundaries.

Mars Volta to release one-track album

has nobody else noticed that they kept the same guy who did 'that' artwork?

what are they thinking?

So, What's the ..... of the year?

Ol' Dirty autopsy: inconclusive

it might have had something to do with the years addicted to crack.

i could be wrong.

Trail Of Dead. UK. Do the maths...

the album is pretty easily gotten on soulseek.

but i'd say it was probably their worst effort so far.

unfortunatly.

Keane illness - Bristol & Exeter date cancelled *u

A fan on 6Music at last night's show said it was like "being in the front room at a Sex Pistols gig."

what the hell does this mean?

Trail Of Dead. UK. Do the maths...

Shame the new album is really bad.

they really spent themselves on Source Tags.

Chemicals to drop more beats in January

WTF.

'drop beats'

hahahahahahahaha.

oh man, you're a tool.

Jimmy Eat World - Futures

It is an emo record you fucking pissant.

Martha Wainwright: Signs to DiS Recordings

If i don tights and sing about arseholes could i please have a recording contract?

UK singles sales reach an all-time low

Instead of posting the rational, thought-out, well argued comment i was going to post i'm just going to concentrate all of that energy in hoping many of you drop dead before you post any kind of opinion again.

Can I get a drumbeat? Conor Oberst goes solo in Lo

Micheal Stipe looks like he's sucking out Oberst's soul in that picture.

The Boss, however, doesn't give a flying fuck.

Elliott Smith - From A Basement On The Hill

And the letting of sentimentality begins. You managed to make reference to his death in every single paragraph, this is a remarkable feat.

It would be nice if i get to read one review of this album that doesn't place it in the context of his death, because really the death hasn't got much to do with the album; unlike albums like the mentioned 'in utero', 'closer' e.t.c. It's a shame.

Pop Goss! Paris Hilton: Booed!

holy shit, this sounds awesome.

lil' jon and paris hilton.

Jimmy Eat World - Pain

i still love clarity.

this is a cool song, the album is a bit patchy.

Reading Festival Highlights

Gen Williams is a cunt, oh well. She doesn't deserve the futureheads.

Brian Wilson - Smile

OK computer isn't anywhere near being one of the greatest albums ever.
