Ok, no idea how I missed it
It's not even in my iTunes...
I think I was so annoyed about it that it put me in a bad mindset for the whole album. Will try again!
I was disapointed by this album
Sun Hands was brilliant and it's a shame it's not on the album. The rest just sounds very safe.
Nice article
Good link to the TCTC interview as well (from the archive)
I still think it's an improvement on the debut
They have to be seen live though just for the loudness. Probably depends on what you're after really but I think Forget The Night Ahead gets the balance right between songs and wall of noise.
Oh no!
Was really looking forward to this as I often give We Can Create a spin. I do like "I Dream Of Crystal" though so maybe I'll give it a listen and make up my own mind.
I'll admit
I like it. I think the new sound really suits them.
Enjoyed reading these reviews
Made me :)
Been looking forward to the DiS review of this
Glad it didn't disapoint. Had the album for a few weeks now thanks to the Slangstore pre-order deal. We Are Water is the highlight for me but it does keep changing. Whereas I agree it's not needed as much here as for the debut I'd still like to hear a DISCO version of Get Color made.
Oh and I do have a t-shirt....
The London date
clashes with Health at the Garage.
It's really grown on me
after initially not being sure. Saw them a couple of months ago at The Luminaire and they really got the crowd moving as well. Evil Dance and Repeated are my fave tracks.
Enjoying the ep
I don't think they really sound like anyone else at the moment.
This is a bit good isn't it?
The review made me feel a little weary and excited about listening to the album both at the same time.
I did wonder about the Oceansize thing. I hope it doesn't mean that their new stuff is lighter as most of Snake Magnet is heavier than most Oceansize songs.
I'm off work with concussion
don't ask. I'm not even meant o be looking at screens for 5 days.
So I couldn't go last night. :( I'm going to regret this fact for ages and ages.
Ouch!
That's very scathing, but it makes me want to listen to it to see if it's right. Can't remember that many songs by them off hand but don't remember thinking it was THAT bad.
The gig at ICA
in London on Wednesday is going to be immense! They do have to be one of the most promising British bands around at the moment. Everything they produce is just class.
Just having my first listen now
It's not as overblown or as in your face as I was expecting, especially after Empire. I think it's better than that, but still too many plodding moments.
I actually quite like Vlad The Impaler. Fast Fuse and Take Aim are the other two tracks I thought were better than the others.
You can pay for it now
download it and then they'll send the cd once it's released.
I think this might just be my album of the year
FOTL pushes it close, and I'm looking forward to seeing what The Twilight Sad and Maybeshewill come up with, but according to LastFm I've listened to worriedaboutsatan 125 times since last Wednesday. It's soooo addictive and not really like much else I've heard.
I'm glad you've praised Land Of My Formers
In every other review I've read it's been mentioned as a weak track, but that intro is brilliant.
I don't mind Tapes 'N Tapes though...
"Music that sounds good on the radio, music that matches your trousers, music that you associate with a computer game. Not for me."
It's not for me either. I didn't say I disliked it.
I'm just suprised that this is the first 10/10 I've seen for a while, it was as simple as that.
I must admit
I'm struggling to really understand how this can get 10/10.
"It pains me to even have to say this but this isn’t going to be for everyone." You're not wrong!
I enjoyed Spiritualized
A LOT. Maybe because I'd never seen them before, but I thought the set worked well. Ah well, opinions and all that.
I've not heard of this before
Can it be heard online anywhere?
As someone who likes most of the new bands linked to this article
I enjoyed reading this. Quite new to it all really.
I still have the original
It may be a little dusty mind. I can remember listening to it very heavily during my teenage years and seeing them at that Reading festival.
You've gone and made me feel all nostalgic now! Time for a bit of britpop....
That's a good playlist
Some there I haven't heard so will give it a listen
That version of Nude
is better than the one on In Rainbows
There's some good reviews been put up the last couple of days
I usually haven't got any time for Pete Doherty but might give this a listen based on the review.
I was actually really disapointed with this album
I didn't realise Cities Burning Down was an old song, and it really is by far the best song on the album. I was hoping it was a grower though. Nowhere near as instant as their first album.
Good review
Made me look up the album (it's on Spotify). Sounding like something I could keep coming back to.
sounds interesting
it's on Spotify (yay!) so will give it a listen
I'm wearing a t-shirt that says
"I listen to bands that don't even exist yet".
Clearly not true....!
but it's something people level at me often. Just thought I'd play up to it a bit.
I reckon an old Radiohead t-shirt, maybe the "Kicking Squealing Gucci Little Piggy" one.
Me too
Slightly disappointed that the band don't!
I think 100 BW is the better album, but I think that I've probably listened to Hope Is Important more. It's just so much fun.
Slightly off topic, Little Discourage is the only song I've ever crowd surfed to.
I just
don't get it.
The whole good music, build up and then shout like wr're metal thing....nah, I just REALLY don't get it.
It's a shame. There's elements of them I really like, but it just seems all too forced to be different to me.
Really like Catherine A.D.
Just bought the ep that's on iTunes. Nice stuff.
I
agree. I really really like the new album and don't understand all the hate at all.
I
...really like it. Good on them for constantly changing. Although I agree with the following Radiohead comment.
Guess what?
a) the past is a grotesque animal
Not heard these before
but that is a brilliant song.
That's a good...
...summary.
Even though the last album was disappointing (All I See Is You, Once More With Feeling were great though) they were always a better live band, even the new songs. The gig at Shepherds Bush earlier this month was absolutely superb.
I'm quite...
...surprised by the way that a lot of sites/magazines have really turned on Fields.
Yes there was a lot of 'hype' but personally I think the songs have developed enormously since all the demo's were available this time last year. I find it hard to believe people think they've got worse.
Strange.
Agreed
Although there are better songs on the album. This is an obvious single.
This has a hell of a lot more to it than bloody Snow Patrol!
I
agree with you here. I really want to enjoy idlewild again, I'd like nothing more. But I seem to be missing how this is a return to form? It isn't a touch on anything from 100 Broken Windows and Hope Is Important....I know, I know "get over it"...
It's...
really good to read a fair review of this album.
On the other hand...
...it's good to get new songs.
Fields
are supporting on the other dates.
New album
Is due 'early' next year, possibly January.
They're on Atlantic Records.

I don't really understand the hate
They worked hard for years but gradually turned more mainstream. It's not like he's bearing his chest in all videos and trying to sound all emo (Hello Biffy). I can't say I like their newer stuff all that much, but they got a bit of backing from a label and after toiling for a few years, who the hell can blame them?
