Some more Twitter news on DiS
lovely stuff.
Why did you not review when it first came out?
Or is the media attention, critical acclaim and book awards that changed your mind?
The 3 other reviews I've seen have given her 6/10 or less
but then, she wasn't connected to anyone running those sites...
Great album, nice review.
There's another good one here too - http://thesilentballet.com/dnn/Reviews/2008/TopRated/tabid/123/ctl/Details/mid/542/ItemID/1918/Default.aspx
I think I actually prefer Float though, it's a bit more my kinda thing.
I wore my From Monument To Masses t-shirt yesterday
surprisingly, no one knew who they were...
It's still LCD essentially
Same people, same vibe, just slightly different style.
Bizarre
I wonder what the less cerebral KoL fans will make of M83?
He's so hit and miss
Some of his remixes are fantastic (Banquet, Hounds of Love, DFA 1979 etc,) but some, most actually, are run of the mill indie disco.
Really not digging this
It just seems to be a bit stock; nothing new or exciting seems to be going on, to my ears anyway.
I hate it when bands do this
Only 4 cities in the UK worth bothering with my arse.
Expansive tour
Hope they're not tired out from all those dates.
Complete rip-off
Hundreds of better festivals available for a lot less money!
I would also like to know this
for a friend of mine who isn't on the board (yet). His question is:
"Would you be in the DIS office 9-5, and therefore expected to somehow live in London on no wage, or can it be done by proxy"
If it is a full time thing, with only some expenses, then I can't see how someone not from London can apply, unless they have mega bucks.
Is any of this paid in any way?
Even transport costs?
That sentimental mother-fucker just cost us the connect
Slim Charles FTW
MORE ambience and echoes
excites me.
Hopefully we'll see a minimal instrumental record.
Let down for me
6/10
"Due to recording commitments"
What, copyuing other people's songs?
Keeping the London show just highlights the kind of fan they attract...Nathan Barley anyone?
As he is favourite, he won't win
Elbow on the other hand...
Save for a couple of decent tracks
this is fairly standard/piss poor.
The Joakim and Shit Robot remixes are brilliant though.
She bats for the other team
If you catch my drift...
Their MySpace
was on there before I went on holiday last week.
Wahey!
First album was good fun, this seems all serious.
'CSS Suxxx' looks like being quite an ironic song right now...
so shouldn't count I guess
anyone could throw a bunch load of samples over a beat and claim this record...
Awful album
I really really don't like it one bit.
Bit late on this?
Fairly impressive video though, given the technology behiond it.
Good in small venues
but they die on a big stage.
Oh yeah, I don't think Dubstep is en-vogue now
maybe a couple of years back...but I'm talking from the perspective of journalists, who are normally about 3 years behind everything.
It's always an awful list
Normally filled with some of the best selling records of year, and also those that have received the most hype, particularly those from cool, en-vogue genres (new rave last year, dubstep now).
Overall though, the list is pointless, and doesn't represent the depth in British music...Adele's record was widely received as pretty mediocore, but it's sold loads so it must be good, right?
They need to limit the entrance for bands that have sold under 100,000 records. This would give some unknown bands the attention thy deserve, whilst also opening up the genres picked from, and not simple chucking in a few toek underground, folk, jazz, classical acts.
Until then, it remains a pointless facade dominated by major label, and highlights a lot of what is wrong with the British music scene.
Very true
It sounds like someone putting a cloth over a UK garage track from 99.
Yes, but it doesn't do that does it
, every year they go for a majority of safe bets that have iether sold really well, garnered loads of hype, or both.
Unless you think Adele album is better than Future of the Left or Youthmovies of course..
Hopefull another 9/10 record
roll on the release!
Pointless, pointless award
What's the point in the token acts not many of heard of, they're never going to win.
What's the point of rewarding record sales and hype over musical originality and craft?
The Guardian report on this
Seems to state it was his crew who threw the punches and racism, so maybe Lydon just hangs around with some nasty types.
Having met and interviewed Kele, he is a very nice chap, if not a bit sulky.
Nice to see everyone's mind has been made up on this already
I mean why wait for the other side of the story, fuck impartiality right?
Mercury Music Prize is a joke
Format needs to change. Only artists that have sold under 100,000 records should be eligible, and only people with proper specialist music knowledge (not Radio 1 DJs, general journo's) should be on the voting panel.
It's blueprint is for originality and music excellence, but how have Aphex Twin, Autechre and 65daysofstatic never made the list if that's the case?
Fly to Valencia and get the bus straight to Beni
It's a damn site easier! But if you are going on the trains, definately pre book, otherwise you'll have to wait until a first class seat comes up on a late night train (what happened to me on my horror story).
It took me 24 hours to get to Benicassim once
delayed then cancelled flight, missed trains, delayed trains, no taxi, thunderstorms.
Put the tent up at 2am on Tuesday morning when we were supposed to be there a 10am Monday...hellish experience, but the rest of the festival was brilliant.
Gizeh Records
and Deep Elm are both awesome labels.
My mistake
I was thinking about Brille then.
Isn't Wichita part owned by EMI
Or 'overseen'...like Transgressive and Warner?
Hardly an indie label if they are.
Allen >>>>>> Kate Nash
but that's like being asked would you rather be punched in the face or kicked in the balls.
Glastonbury next
Didn't sell out this year, next year it will be even less.
If there's any justice anyway...
Release date: 20/05/2008
Bit behind the times here!
You've missed some
Go Your Own Way (Fleetwood Mac cover)
Good Practice Makes Permanenet
Waiting For Green/Time Is An Imploding Unit
Bonanzoid Deathgrip is one of their best songs period, can't believe they dropped it from Infinity Land in favour of 'Conceal The Weapons'.
I doubt she'll have to work her way up in A&R
fucking sickens me!
I'd be jealous
if I didn't go there in March for a week for free!

'on their patchy second album Very Fast Very Dangerous'
You've spelt brilliant wrong.
