What.
This review is a fucking joke.
I don't think I've ever read a review
stuffed with so many hyperboles. Far, FAR too overexciteable.
What is it with most DiSers here sticking up for this review?
Yes, no one likes Cast, but this is garbage jorunalism. I'm ashamed that DiS has sunk to this level to be honest.
On An Aeroplane Over The Sea?
Come on, get the album name right. It's only one of the greatest albums ever written.
Great review
Absolutely spot on.
but I haven't wholeheartedly fallen for a Mountain Goats album since 2002's Tallahassee
Did The Sunset Tree do nothing for you? (!)
Also no mention of Estate Sale Sign in this review - surely one of the best songs he's penned in years. A clattering, snarling masterpiece.
Somehow I think it's unlikely Japanese Sleepers will be getting a mention.
Thanks though Dan!
9?
urgh
I'm sorry, you are just wrong.
This is a terrible album created by a bunch of old men desperate to cash in on the influence generated by the music they created in their youth. I mean, it mostly sounds like a bad tribute act playing Entertainment! songs. Gill's guitar sounds rubbish, the vocals feel tired and forced and the production is just weird in places.
I have every respect for the band who produced Entertainment! and Solid Gold. I have no respect for the band who produced this.
Amazing!
I miss these silly stories. More please!
Is it me
or does Sufjan just look like a massive hipster in this video?
The Nottingham urban area doesn't include those places...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nottingham_Urban_Area
Just all the suburbs surrounding the city centre.
I know this isn't really related to the discussion but...
you've massively underestimated the size of Nottingham. Yeah, the population within the old tight city boundaries is about 250-300,000 but the wider Nottingham urban area has a population of about 667,000, comparable to the Sheffield urban area. If we're talking about Manchester, then the population within the tight City of Manchester boundaries is about 480,000. But when we talk about Manchester we actually talk about Greater Manchester, which has a population of 2.2 million and is, yeah, a lot bigger than Notts. Just sayin.
It's just a bit of a surprise really
because the review would suggest a higher final score. No biggie, just seems a bit odd.
This isn't "futureheads by-the-numbers"
That would be pretty good. This is just shit.
What happened to that band I used to love, the band who created perfect angular pop songs which were obviously crafted with a lot of time and love? This crap could be written by anyone. Sigh.
Good review apart from the Lion in a Coma bashing
The bits where the drums and bass stop briefly and it's just a second or two of a riffing guitar creshendo coupled with Avey singing are almost euphoric.
To be honest the whole album comes close to this. I immediately feel happier whenever I listen to it. It should really be a controlled substance...
Is it only me that doesn't like Think Tank?
It's really not that interesting. It's simple and shallow, but in an entirely different way to The Great Escape and Parklife. Compared to 13 and Blur, Think Tank is a huge step backwards. Also, we should probably all remember that Graham's solo stuff was actually quite good up until that awful Freakin' Out song. What a fucking awful song. What a fucking awful album.

Couldn't agree more.
