Way groundbreaking
especially when Oz magazine did exactly the same thing in '70
I was listening to CAN when I was 16
because I'm ultra fucking skill.
Now that BSkyB isn't breathing down their neck
they're going crazy with editorial and fuckin' with house style
Pretty sure yes
maybe in '03 or '04 or something like that? I think it was Truck... they were on real early one day. Perhaps it was some other Oxfordshire festival...?
I hope the new stuff sounds like
the stuff they played at Truck in oooooh about 2004 on the main stage. That was boss
Still here
Got a handy wall next to my computer.
Thanks for reminding me about Mansun
I'm off to smash my head against a wall until the memory has once again disappeared.
Squarepusher
Looks like a thin Bill Bailey there.
Blimey, a reasonable and fair response
last thing I'd expect on this site! Fair play.
Rending would be good
It just seems that if no test pressings were sent out, and the label have put something out that's different to what was sent by the band, then something's up there... especially as the label continue to sell copies of something the band have asked not to be sold.
I don't get it
Did you (Half Machine) fuck up the pressing? And you're just laughing it off with trite remarks?
It looks nice and all that...
...but I can't stop myself thinking that there's no reason that the content couldn't very happily be integrated into DiS. Except, perhaps, separate site = separate revenue stream/more advertising positions to carry AdWords and more targeted campaigns.
Not that there's anything wrong with that; but the whole 'it's a different site for a different audience which, er, crosses over with the DiS audience' doesn't quite make sense to me
most effective way to go about my job
Dig out your own stories, is all I'm suggesting, or at least cite your sources...
this is just copied from nme.com
with a sarky comment tacked on the end. Top journalism.

Alcohol's not a drug, it's a drinkzzzzzzzzz
That picture
is reminiscent of the Q And Not U cover http://www.whichwayup.org/images/49t.jpg
postmodernism
is ironic in its very nature.
If it was someone like
Battles or Radiohead instead of Hard-Fi a lot of you people would be banging on about what a great artistic statement this is. I smell double standards
Nah
as a designer MYself I do a combination of paid work and freebies. The freebies I do generally for bands that I rate, and usually in return for something like a free t-shirt or guestlist spots or whatever. I like getting involved with the creativity of bands that I rate in this way.
The good thing about this competition is that if you don't like it, you don't have to enter it - it doesn't seem like a scam to me, it seems a bit like a physical embracing of the Web 2.0 world where every fucker (eg. myself) has an opinion and idea and concept about everything and is happy to share it.
Grammar Police
"Where everyone buy's their guitars" ?
At least
she's not a ginger.
OK so loud volume perhaps
(although maybe she wears earplugs). But releasing records and touring solidly does not necessarily equal drug/alcohol consumption.
The difference is
she's not espousing drug use, alcohol consumption, loud volume, etc but she* seems to be on some kind of 'any body shape is a-o-k' tip.
*(or her press people. or the NME. or somebody.)
Also being a rock star IS super cool!
But she's not
appearing on a magazine cover clutching bottles of vodka, with ten cigarettes in her mouth and her ear pressed up to a huge speaker, is she? She's got her kit off, which is obviously making a statement of some kind about weight. Maybe she's making a statement, maybe NME are trying to, who knows.
It's often said of Marilyn Manson
'but he is sooo intelligent and a very clever modern artist', as some kind of defence of him being a grown-up man who still dresses up in funny costumes and tries to shock people like a needy teenager. He just seems to be a bit of an egotistical numpty, to me.
Is it just me
that thinks Atlas every so slightly sags in the middle section? I reckon they could've happily chopped out half a minute...
If I enter this and win
would it be possible to have just the records and let another person win the tickets? I can't make the show...
You should never
wish death on somebody, it's a horrible thing to do
I had Luke Vibert round my house once
Lovely chap.
The Pebbles and Nuggets compilations
didn't come out in the mid-to-late 1960s...
A very surly band
I certainly wouldn't mess with Chris Olley.
Thought so.
Was just wondering.
Genuine question:
is such a compilation in violation of discrimination laws?
Yeah fair enough.
I just have these attacks of feeling sorry for the underdog at times. Give it half an hour and I'll be sounding off to somebody about how shit Gossip are, or something.
It is a bit childish
how DIS seems to have decided Mika to be the hate figure of the moment, and how you're dropping in nasty comments on the site whenever possible. The best way to stop people having interest in or buying an artist's work (which is presumably the aim) is just to stop mentioning them - not to constantly bang on about them for comedy points. That just smacks of arrogance and some kind of weird ulterior motive.
It's sometimes worth remembering that, even if they're making truly awful music, musicians at any level are *real people*, and it can be genuinely hurtful if bileful hate is directed at you over and over again. I often see good, balanced reviews on here, as well as comments suggesting how constructive criticism is good instead of just saying "this is shit because I think it's shit". In this instance, no matter who it is aimed at, it's beginning to feel a bit too much.
I have a lot of time for Lily Allen
Her music sounds fresh and sweet and nice to me, and she herself doesn't seem particularly pretentious or full of it. As far as I can tell she says what's on her mind in a non-hysterical way, and then the press (including this site?) bangs on about it in order to make her out to be some kind of ultra-good/bad character (depending on what you read). She just seems to be a strong personality.

Aw that night in Oxford where he saw Cat On Form
was at the festival that I run. It was pretty unexpected to see him sauntering into the backstage area!
