wow. there are a lot of long replies
all i want to add...i use illegal downloading to hear the music/album of artists other people talk about/review. If i like it, most likely i'll see them live and buy the physical album. For this reason i'd don't feel that i'm doing anything wrong. Without P2P I wouldn't have come into contact with as much (new) music.
I think linking artistic creativity to wealth is extremely dubious
For me, art in whatever form is likely to come from a situation where somebody is struggling. The art is a reaction to such a struggle. Yes, wealth may be part of this but to view it as the sole motivator is rather simplistic.
Basically...what Herbert Read said.
I'm slightly concerned
about getting to latitude by car (from Leeds). According to internet directions I hardly ever go on a motorway (the A1 really isn't a motorway!) and it will take over 5 hours!
i have seen them live, unfortunately,
and i could think of lot more incredibly fun and energetic things i could have been doing with my time.
Did anyone support her?
And will they be supporting on Thurs?
Also...
"Surely not all centre or even right-wing sensibilities are premised on prejudice and misinformation? "
name some...
There is debate about these issues
obviously just not in the throwaway media you discuss.
Newsnight, Today programme, Radio 4 and 5, Broadsheet papers...to name but just a few. The debates and discussions are out there just not in the tabloids & 20min news programmes you mention and can you really blame them. They print shit, lots read it, why would they stop?
The Rosie Taylor Project...
...whooooop!
There are still
quite a few people in Leeds/Yorkshire who think they're shit...me being one.
No mention of
the almost certainly fantastic 1st support group....The Rosie Taylor Project
boo.
^
this
I'd hang it
in the Natural History Museum in banksy oh-so-ironic-way with a plaque reading: "A "Bjork" (circa 2007): multicoloured and effervescent rare breed of icelandic female known for crafting unique and diverse songs. Also a bit of alright."
winter doesnt deter
you're right.
-25C in toronto and i still went outside...
It hasn't killed live music
in other countries so i feel it won't here either. It does obviously effect your gig-going if you smoke. You can't during a set, which may annoy some people. I feel its more than made up for by having to go outside with all other smokers during the set. Its usually a pretty sociable atmospher with everyone talking about the act that's just been on. Half the time the band are there too. I hadn't heard about time limits set by some places down in london and think that is fucking stupid. As long as you have a stamp/ticket what's the problem with taking as long as you like.
Summary: Ban is good. Smoke less, socialise more when having cig. However, time limits on smoking = utterly crap
sadly this compilation
is missing the best band in leeds at the moment.......the rosie taylor project.
yep
eh?
This doesn't make sense. They like album cover art and are sad its disappearing.....so to stop this demise in its tracks they decide to try and "kill off the sleeve altogether"
wtf
best way around this
would be to offer a free cd copy (sent when the cd comes out) if you download the digital version...would it not?
nah
no way near as good as Set Yourself on Fire
word.
don't write off Bad Sneakers because of this rather lame song. The label's next release will be a corker (at least i think its their next release).
so does this mean
that if you downloaded an album off itunes all the tracks in that album would gain a 'sale' in the singles chart? if so, surely when a big album comes out most of the songs will get into the singles chart....maybe, i don't know.
i still respect the guy
for saying 'george bush doesnt care about black people' during hurrican katrina
its a quote...
from a Douglas Coupland novel....Shampoo Planet if i remember right. Although i dont think its a direct quote.
my opinion...
Stars album should be up there...perhaps at the expense of either Metric or Wolf Parade. For me it's slightly better than those two.
oooh.
i want to go! but iceland's the most expensive place...like, ever! i was there once and a pint of carlsberg cost be £5...however, i may just have been ripped off. i was 17 and knew no icelandic.
this news
makes me sad. Toronto just staged a majorly successful (mini) festival in exactly the same place, curated by broken social scene. Keep things local i say.
Also, V festival is shit.
meh
what annoys me is that some bands tend to just have a myspace and no proper website. I know that smaller bands wouldnt have their own website but for more established acts it strikes me as lazy...or something.
sit on...
...myfarce
(sorry)
wow!
this is virtually 10mins away from where i live and i knew nothing about it!
fingers crossed....
...have never won any competitions on here. *sighs
i like
the shins version of 'we become silhouettes'
far superior.
Nickleback
are shit
let me see...
So far.....
most serene republic, stars, bss, feist, wolf parade....and, of course, NICKLEBACK!
yes!
something that isnt for all you london types! huzzah!
ps
emily haines is very pretty!
The Wardrobe
in leeds!
isnt the most acousticy/folky place to play......but i'll no doubt be there.
I saw them
twice in the past few months. There performance in Canada was slightly better than that in York, probably due to the venues, but they were still amazing at both.
I kind of find the albums they've released a bit over produced/ clean (but still very good). They tend to produce a much rougher, and in my humble opinion, better sound when playing live.
nice review...
...and nicely juxtaposed with the ad for Sky that came up on the left.
hum...
