we do write about an awful lot of music but this is a topic a lot of people are debating but also not one which has any medium in which to be debated. we just wanted to focus the debate alongside our usual content (which admittedly is thinner on the ground due to a low volume of great releases at this time of year, combined with most of our contributors being lost in and shattered by from festival coverage)
hopefully you'll read some of the pieces and realise why we've decided to do this.
i meant only there for the sunday... half-asleep still
Nick Cave, Wild Beasts (really liking their forthcoming album), Catherine A.D., Dockers MC, the Cape Farewell film (Martha Wainwright, Jarvis, etc looking at the melting glaciers), and, er, PHOENIX excitement times a TRILLION!!!
not much of a fan myself so didn't think to add them but they are indeed missing. can't remember everything.
just in a listenable order. not sure why everyone needs things put in an order of best and worst. it's just 100 songs which are better than the thousands/millions of others released this year.
Ditto Grizzly Bear, Marissa Nadler, Martyn and heaps more that I looked for...
Mr Lukowski had the benefit of one listen at a listening party, whereas Mr Miller has lived with the record for a few weeks. I'm not a fan myself but then that doesn't mean we're gonna find someone else to review it or edit the reviewers opinion out to fit some kind of overbearing DiS-agenda. Thatisall.
my 8/10 review of 'Pretty. Odd.' didn't go down too well http://drownedinsound.com/releases/12911/reviews/3090402
and i wasn't much a fan of the debut but there's something really special about it (his voice and the air of the vibe reminds me quite a bit of Billy MacKenzie from The Associates, this album especially http://open.spotify.com/album/1r0xYGvbQFCUHyrOGxduJi )
for anyone who wants to hear it http://open.spotify.com/album/5q2pNcBQzczYiZ9FIDixjN
that was just a copy paste from the website... i think it is by the icelanders who got involved before you did, if that helps it make more sense. obvs you released it a few years later so it's only like 8 years old in the uk.
and we will continue to do so. we only had gary at the festival and he spent yesterday travelling back to sheffield. more to follow throughout this week!
glad someone noticed it
but their disclaimer requires that you do have one. I imagine they'll be making some prosecutions at some point relating to this.
knew i'd miss something. i couldn't find the details of that (or rather, I forgot to hunt them down)
they'll have night vision goggles on
wouldn't that mean 3million people are aware of who Wavves is? I don't think Pitchfork has 3million readers, let alone those who read it for more than news about Sonic Youth, Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse.
to type it up for me :)
by tiny genres and much more similar band thoroughfares than most sites. it's one thing i've always wanted DiS to allow people to do. we're still working on it.
toby it should go without saying but i want to say it: these photos are amazing!
and an indication that one is forthcoming, whilst playing the album so loud that i will probably get a noise police warning.
me and mike are gonna do it, i think
i kinda agree with this ^
it's not like the CD is no longer available. and obvs better than not covering it at all. :)
We've run this as an indepth piece rather than a review - as a bit of a trial
balls. knew i'd miss something (tho I thought Abe Vigoda was pretty dull live when I saw him at SXSW and still never investigated Mae Shi, and no-one noticeably mentioned them when I asked who people were seeing on the boards/twitter)
DiS' former Editor Gareth Dobson now manages them?!
that's shouting ;-)
i couldn't find much of it on Spotify (although I only put on I know DiS has bigged up in the past)
images were uploaded slightly too small so it was resizing them bigger. thanks for pointing this out, we're remedying it now.
and hasn't been reviewed yet
goto http://www.spotify.com - what computer are you using?
i've only heard great responses and read great reviews of it, like this one http://thequietus.com/articles/01563-metric-fantasies-album-review
someone else might be nice enough to do it
no-one else has reported any problems... did you try it a few times?
i've already started that!
wrong html paste. fixed now. apologies.
this wasn't a list ordered like a chart, I just did a playlist which vaguely fitted together in a vague order.
J.Lewis isn't in fact out yet, I thought it was available on import. Sorry. You win 10 pedantic points!
it's the whole start of spring thing
it was just a test. we may just use this for some other function.
and because we're really excited that they have a new album forthcoming :)
