great stuff

with so many festivals in the UK putting on the same bands it's become increasingly difficult to elect which one's to avoid. Thank-you Rock-ness and your 11pm curfew on fun, you make my life easier.

i don't think anyone did

the fact that a song, an album or even a group could evoke a qualitative sense in their music can only be a good thing but only when intended: with Daphne and Celeste (to draw upon an out-dated example) all i feel is anger and rage.

yoyoyo

dis is like politikal sh*t dat dey haz in like dat TV show wiv de fit one dat goes like "next up we has like dead babies and sh*t, but first we haz like some old dude in a field coz it rained loads." Yu no de show wiv de fit one, no, not lorraine kelly she's a minger like. Kaplinski, yu no, aaahhh buff man brapbrapbrappppp.

If China wishes to 'tighten controls' over foreign artists, it effectuates nothing as they (or at least in this article) make no point as to how they are going to do so. They could mean that they are just going to ban Bono from coming to China, a law that should be replicated elsewhere.

...no

It is a great sentence, can't deny that, but clostrophobic has been a word beaten around Elbow since the Asleep in the Back, so no points for ingenuity, but the alliteration is good and i like the cadence.

funny cos...

there's some about elbow that is all so angelic. Not only do they wave the flag for manchester as though it is their moral duty but with prog crecendos and husky-breath vocals, their like guardian angels from Bury.

...but seriously, There have two huge statues, El and Bo which they used to parade around (why does a band need statues). Songs like Newborn and Grace Under Pressure have spiritual depth, even if the former is an inversion. Leaders Of the Free-World is a record based on holding the heads of politicians on stucks and chanting about it.

One of the few continuities in their music is how it is elevating and about breaking-out of our shackles.

So maybe hagiographic was required? Or did you mean it in that the critic wasn't ballanced.

not to bully, but...

1) Holy F*ck are not an "electro-tinged dance-punk hybrid" by any means.

2)'Genau Au Diesem Abend' (without a dictionary) could be translated as 'going out this evening'. Would it have been too much to just inquire a little, or take-on his own advise and get a dictionary? Completely ambivalent towards German culture and language.

re: *sp

It appears i've left a drunken rant on this page, so here's the sober version:

Ok, i dont agree with the zenephobia but i will make a claim for xenophobia - and not just out of stubborness. Rob Webb has referenced infamous German artists, ("those inspired more by the likes of Kraftwerk and NEU!" - euphamism for, "German"?) whose careers bridge genres and who have gained notoriety on many grounds. Such name checking is illusive and above all misleading to the reader. Is this intended?

The only possible interpretation of the phrase,

"Germany's heritage in that respect is an enviable one, and it's to this legacy of synthesisers and rhythmic, robotic beats that MIT look for inspiration."

Is it that Germany is awash with synthesisers in it's musical output on a scale that far superceeds that of any other? Is it that it is impossible to live in Germany without hearing Synths, unlike the electronically impoverished France where it's all just smutty crooners? Is Rob envious that he lives in a culture where listening to German electronica ist verboten? What is there to envy, a sense of Nationalist Pride because your country is stereotyped for making electronic music?

I'm sure it's not intended but it's just really sloppy name checking and poor referencing.

profile phote

did anyone look at the picture of Pele or whoever he is and just think, c*ck?

what the...

what are you trying to prove in this article, have you re-read it? it is full of sweeping generalisations and irrelevant, insignificant references - which at points are zenephobic. sort it out please.

the only statements you are willing to follow-through with are "Hear any of these songs in a club and lose your mind" and "Delve deeper, though, and that's plenty more to find" which are unsubstanciated.
