Not to be contrary...

But I'm white and profoundly middle class, though I was a few years older (17 I think) when without me came out. Most people I know listen to hip-hop to a greater or lesser extent, including friends from school, through to university. As far as I'm aware none of us has ever had any dilemma about whether we were too white / middle class for it. Maybe it came from growing up in a city rather than a small town.

First time listener

Have just listened to Tindersticks for the first time - it's always nice to come across something you never knew was missing from your life. I have some catching up to do...
