is the cover a nod to midlake?
who basically paved the way for the bon iver/ fleet foxes to 'cross over'...if Van Occupanther came out now it would have sold more than FF.....thats for sure...possibly more than BI too
i see they have taken the new album bit down
although it's hardly a surprise is it?Didnt she play it at a random one off show earlier this year?
the only thing better than seeing sunn0))) live is..
seeing people try to explain to their friends what it was like using the gift of mime (Roskilde....when they played people were sort of going ' NNNNNEEUURGHHHHHHHH" and then hitting one long down note on an air guitar...) Theres some great stuff on this hear record
i know i shouldn't
but i find bits of this record really funny.
he. wore a tutu.he
undermined incorporating dance into the performance. he. was still amazing. he.
Blip hop pioneers? er.....Luaka Bop. David Byrne....
What do you mean Radiohead never heard of him? haha
did i miss the point when Patrick wolf turned into ...
Fisherspooner?
you can't say end of the road is quite a way off
it's only two weeks later than green man....and its the same weekend as bestival.
ill tell you something about odeath
one of them is related to wayne coyne. (im reliably informed)
Early Bird tickets
are going very swiftly....
I would suggest trying to get them this weekend, as they are very limited and i expect them to run out by the middle of next week. It is hard for us as a small festival to do a massive number of early bird tickets- and they are at a specially reduced rate......
Meeting later today to start planning for next year...all systems go!
no mention of tindersticks...
stole the show for me..
And the acorn were great on the mainstage, but even better in the Bimble inn on the saturday- when they managed to cause a stampeded when they gave out free promo's of their album after their set....
didnt he sell his old one
on ebay or something for charity?
and im from barcelona played 'summer of 69' at the back of the field before he went on
and he was the only band of the whole festival that didnt start on time..
He didnt ask for his own toilet tho
maybe David bowie will replace them
like when bowie pulled out of Roskilde in 2000....and they replaced him with the ..knot. there were people in tears.
god i love this band
a favourite of the mountain goats i believe........do we know what the 'extra's' are for the uk addition?
brightoncentre
rubbish.
when was sons of noel and adrian out
thats the best thing ive heard recently...other than the acorn, but thats not out on this side of the pond till next month
is it just me,
or was last month not exactly overflowing with great albums...one of the least inspiring months this year....
if robert wyatt
doesnt win this, there is no justice in the world...that album is amazing.
Picked this up in canada last year
and fell in love.
Thats why we got them to play the End of the Road Showcase at SXSW (and according to some they were second best show at the whole thing apart from Bon Iver). Also they will be playing the Garden stage at End of the Road in September when they tour (also supporting Akron/ Family for that nice acorn/ akron headline....)
Fair play to Bella Union for picking them up- i'd have loved to do the record myself, but i know they will do a good job- looks like they are 'label of the year' this year....
saw him recently
and his new band was pretty bad....saw him twice on the last UK tour too and was pretty underwhelmed.....he seems to pick iritatingly voiced women to do back up live, but not on record
didnt he do a cameo
at the 100 club with one of his protoge's a few years back..think he did 1 song
radiohead for 40 quid at victoria park
is 20 quid less than leonard cohens cheap ticket- plus in that instance you an take into account the costs for stage etc- as it wasnt a dedicated venue.
then theres the whole other issue that the tickets cost £7.50 more just for the privelage of buying them from ticketmaster. No doubt if they are on sale at see that probably equals £10......for taking a phone call and clicking an email...........i imagine the the people in the call centre don't make that much per hour so someone is making a serious amount of cash
hmm-
i think he's claiming she took $28 million....
which would be pretty hard to spend (in the sense that without having assets to sell, such as property.
The point is If he was living as a monk he had no need for a manager- so they should have parted company beforehand surely? Or certainly he should have put the money in a bank...
i was under the impression that you had to give up worldly goods to become a buddhist monks- relinquish material wealth........perhaps this is where the money went.
It's not that im anti cohen- i just think pricing shows at £60-90 tickets in enermo-domes and horrible venues lacks respect for fans. If you told US audiences tickets were $120 for the cheap seats they would be up in arms (see the reaction to the price of tom waits tickets on the Anti message board, then remember that the Europe tour was about twice the cost of the US tour tickets)....
correct me if im wrong
but didn't the court rule in cohen's favour?-ergo his money, or a substantial amount of it may be returned?
If he doesn't want to tour, he shouldn't tour- it's not like he won't get royalties and whatnot from the records.....
Also, fair enough you have a manager? But surely you also have a bank account? And if the manager is fleecing off money you notice it...
yeah
its still absolutely rubbish....
122.50 for two bad tickets in a horrible venue.
Apparently the admin fee at ticketmaster is £5 per ticket, and then it costs £2.50 to email you the ticket so you can print it out yourself at home. ill tell you one thing, ticketmaster ought to look into how much their internet supplier is charging if it costs them £2.50 to send an email
theyre gonna be tired in wolves
i would imagine if they can go from dorset it is a less bad commute from brum.
I used to go to wolves from worcester- its not too bad.
this is the worst video
ive seen in a long time...its like the bad old days of hadaway!
if this is at number one, then theyre going to have to invent a new number for the brighton port authority single comes out with dizee and david byrne...now that sticks in your head...
the tour is called glitter and doom
not gloom and doom
apparently...
the bonaroo programme (which they didnt reprint) shows that Kanye wasnt even meant to be playing the mainstage. he was meant to be playing stage 2 but he kicked off about how he was a mainstage performer....hence coming on REALLY late.
Over at brooklyn vegan there is a comment from a guy who supposedly worked a number of the shows on the tour who said that kanye never ONCE turned up on stage on time at any of his shows, was really bad with financing food for all his crew, and was generlaly just a bit of a tool. Apparently he had a crane that they had to reinforce the stage for....
oh and the glow in the dark hasnt worked on ANY of the tour dates.
Also there is a whole lot of homophobia going on in the early part of the message...
Once again, despite quite liking his music, i am forced to think he is an utter tool
the majority of this
is on his debut anyway, currently available in wire baskets at garage across the land for a knock down price.
hoping to get to this
long live the drift collective!
Can i just add that these ten
came from over 800 applications. And i listened to and visited the webpages of everyone who entered. So thanks to everyone who applied....and see you at the festival...
the guy needs to get over himself
seriously.....you want to act all hard, go be in mayhem. You want to abuse your fans, then seriously quit your job.
Its not like im pro throwing stuff, but all his macho bullsh8t is tiresome....if he want to make rock for jocks....then hes got to expect some stupid behavior....and get over himself...
gifht
meaning fight
hmmm..
'You want a gifht, go to a gay bar'
'no c=ck smokers allowed- i applaud you sir.'
'your a 'b8tt f8cker'...
all his 'just that one person'...answer to everything.
plus my favourite bit of his response...
'im in queens of the stoneage'....so people throw a couple of sweets- get over it....and stop releasing such boring records.
sam- this which...
you like the acorn or you think P+a or silver mt zion will actually win.
or of course you could mean both....
Black kids, Lightspeed champion
and f*ck buttons....seriously, have a look at their schedule
they played on jonathan ross
a few weeks back.
Weak.
Very Weak.
and i really liked the ep stsuff they gave away free
there is a tour
and im pretty sure they will have a 'good' slot at eotr too. I think details will be forthcoming...im sure this polaris nomination and the fact theyve just signed to bella will help convince a fair few.....
and doesnt the quality of this list
make you bury your head in your hands when you see the mercury music prize nominations every year
The Acorn
When Bella Union release the album later this year, and they tour in september, you will see why. Stunning.
Thats my PERSONAL choice.
THat said i have a feeling it will either be plant and animals or Silver MT zion
boohoohoo
i think its best for an artist like me to be on the streets.
NEWS FLASH ....performing -its your job.
Oh, you just made loads of money from your MTV backstage party didnt you....you dont need to tour! suprise.
Pathetic
also im sure the sign of an artists size and impact
are based on their ability to play stadiums.
I'll let Tom Waits know, shall I.
A trues sign is knowing of an acts popularity is when they know they can sell huge amounts of tickets and choose to do smaller shows, or just do impompu shows ( as i believe beck sometimes does)

he did some of the illustration for electro shock blues too.....
and was responsible for 'weezer girls' and a whole bunch of amazing new yorker artwork
