I can't believe
it took me over six months to learn that this had happened.
a better headline would have been
'Splitting Sailors, are we the DiStroyers?'.
my money's on
Barrack Obama.
that's not what he said
read it properly.
'What do we want?'
'Reggae!'
'When do we want it?'
(...)
so
the headline is wrong then?
it's overblown
and parts of it are embarrassing.
It's not without its moments though.
SMZ albums
have tended to alternate between great and shit.
He has left us - great
Born Into trouble - shit
This is out punk rock - great
Lightning Paw - shit
Horses - great
therefore I predict this will be shit.
^
LP5 is my favourite too. But many people would say 'Tri Repetae' is their best. I reckon that's my second favourite so either of them is good.
They've kind of gone off on one in recent years. Very harshly inhuman and unmelodic. It's easier to warm to the early stuff where they used a lot more warm sounds and actual music.
These days it's almost entirely about gratuitously complex algorhythmic drum programming. I wouldn't get anything recent as a first purchase.
i love how
there's absolutely nothing to be said about this record because it'll be absolutely impossible to describe.
Autechre are amazing. Even when they're really shit they're still utterly unique.
Untilted was brilliant. Draft 7.30 was total arse - why? No one knows - they're both brain boggling complicated mashes of drums and abstract noise, one worked one didn't. Awesome.
*does a little dance in 17/3 time sig*
that's a question
that deserves its own thread.
he's got a point
but I think it has very little to do with immigration and much more to do with how england is turning into one big tesco.
wales doesn't have this problem nearly as much. it still looks and feels like its own country.
no one has done more
to make music in the UK completely and utterly shit than this man.
I know
more than one person this has happened to. It's quite likely an undiagnosed cardiac condition.
If anyone feels a fleeting moment of generosity then these people:
do really good work for families of people this happens to. and also campaign for greater awareness and preventative testing. chuck em a tenner.
.
"We worked with promoters too - Peppermint Patty, Luce, Twisted by Design"
Luce should be 'Loose'.
i had never
heard of the metros until this moment.
Odd, it's almost like this tedious behaviour is contributing to their profile in some way?
'Banned from Holiday Inn across the land' - Drowned in Sound
No, I still don't want to listen to them though.
nice to see
radiohead finally getting a mention in the news.
wonder if they'll ever release another album? Hope it's not soon, I'm a bit skint...
.
changing name of a street is cheaper than an annual grant and requires less effort.
reckon I know which will win.
totally not even worth bothering
ranting about this.
'[gic]'
lol
it wasn't underrated
it was shit.
Dave Grohl
is correct.
anyone incapable
of seeing the grey areas between those two extremes is a totally ignorant prick.
well don't keep us in suspense
get it in the listings!
are they
playing as a duo? I heard one of them had quit.
i preferred
'singing is fun - woah eh oh!'
if that album cover
was a person I'd want to punch it.
i said Bat for Lashes
when the list first came out whenever it was.
should have put some money on it.
if this record was a person
it would be a cunt.
no it isn't
it's like a fucking joke.
i'll bet
my left ass cheek this is fucking rubbish.
that tracklisting
is shit.
never have a band been so in denial about how rubbish they have become compared to how good they were before.
bill callahan
luckiest man in showbiz?
me
once.
listening to a track of it occasionally is a genuine pleasure. any more than that and you want to die.
funny thing is
David Shrigley actually has released an album:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Late-Night-Tales-Shrigley-Forced/dp/B000INAX1K/ref=sr_1_1/026-6902528-9791604?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1185444962&sr=1-1
me too
Declare Idependence pwns. It's just a massive burst of energey. It was brilliant live. BUT i think it wouldn't make a good single because it wouldn't get radio play or owt like that.
*draws picture of cat making a list*
*e-mails to band*
*waits*
actually
I ripped it off someone else's copy, but I forgot to listen to it... did I miss much?
I just remembered
I never bought the 2nd franz album. did i miss much?
loads of us on DiS
live in cardiff. you should meet up with us.
it sounds like
a lot of dull drumming and 'bonk' sounds from what I've heard. and I LOVED happiness.
i've had this for a while
it's not quite sunk in yet. I just keep thinking it sounds like the magnetic fields only not as clever.
maybe i'm approaching it the wrong way. this review makes the lyrics sound more interesting than I'd given them credit for. I'll have another, more thorough listen I think.
as soon as I've finished listening to nothing but Daniel Johnston.
it's not amazing
it's the most obvious thing. and it's been done before. by Sigue Sigue Sputnik of all bands who put adverts on one of their cds in the eighties. Clearly they were ahead of their time. one man's revolutionary is another man's lunatic.
It's all well and good unless you're someone who thinks music is the one art form that truly taps into the part of us that goes beyond the boring bullshit and commerce of everyday life. If you just consider music another thing to buy then this isn't going to matter much to you I suppose.
