Hmmm

I only have PJ Harvey (which I reckon is only alright) and M.I.A. off of this list which is not a complaint just a realisation that I may now be too old for DiS, bah, thats sad.

c the verve

c the verve is the correcta nswer. I want to see Efterklang and the whitest boy alive. That isn't funny but its true.

alright

they are alright, I reckon. But only alright. they where on with Sons & Daughters and the singles stood out miles and the rest was a bit dull and samey and yes indeed very The Cure.

I was there I saw.

good then

You have convinced me I'm going to get this now based opn nthing but others opinions.
Am I £50 woman?
Do people still say that?

I have heard of the kills

ands thats it this week, sometimes its a nice edjumacation hanging around here. I'm all ears me.

Subtle = good, ta.

nah...

I don't believe them. Tesco adverts have been the same for years now: plain white background, 'product', celebrity voice over, little red 'dinging' price tag, the end. and notably: NO music.

And people make adverts but change the music all the time, you wouldn't bin the whole thing.

cobblers I say
Polly 'clearly works in advertising' doodle

Hoo raH!

I am very pleased - Its bound to be just dead good and like it should be, I have no doubt that this will be spot on
yes and yes
x

yes

he does I agree and its a good thing yes

only 'tending

He is sadly not my actual brother but we used to sing together many moons ago and people assumed we where related, which is no surprise considering how attractive we both are...

ok

I do love them madly so find it hard to hear anything less than positive about them. You may have a point I'll go away and think about it...

Grandmaster gareth does narrate a very lovely story song thing on my pretend brothers new album though which everyone should surely hear?... http://www.drownedinsound.com/release/view/9383b or www.myspace.com/paulmosley

seems a bit harsh...

I like him and his other records. This one - now I've had time to get used to it - is actually shit.
x

agree

totally agree, I loved Cripple Crow even though it was a fuller sound etc but this is boring and unfocused on first couple of listens. I'll give it more of a chance cos I like him but not fussed on this so far at all.

big

I quite like the fact that the interpol advert underneath this story is flashing 'Mammoth'at me as I read about Pavarotti.

He was quite fat.

Union CHapel

Did anyone go to the union chapel gig? it was SO very lovely - he was even cracking a few jokes and managed a full set and the new songs where beuatiful. It was great. I know he's a massively acquired taste but I have acquired it and its great
x

but

he's quite a handsome one. Send him to me, I'll sort him out.

live

Fair enough, well said Sir. Live they are very, very wonderful, and Catherine is the lady in the new pornographers who isn't Neko Case which I mention because it might make some Pornographers fans give this loverly band a listen...

neko?

But will Neko Case be in attendance?

My 2P

I thought
scarlets walk = boring
beekeeper = grower

why does she do such bloody long albums all the time?

That said, she can do whatever she wants and she does, so thats good.

many

bands have done something similar - it gets them a video made for nowt and loads of punters singing up to the mailing list.
It is still quite a nice thing to do though obviously.

nah...

it is because he is the first attractive clebrity gay man since Rufus Wainwright. All mny gays love him. All the other celebrity gays are mingers innit?

why

why is everything crossed out?

Neko?

Was Neko there? That always seems to be the question ot ask about a New Pornographers gig. Was she?

cried?

Did you really cry though, really?

I am jealous, I really like what I have heard of this album and as younger snapper of whips I would have rushed out bought it and listened with rapt attention dozens of times by now. Not sure I would have cried mind you.

Now as an old bastard I find it hard to be so moved by anything even if its dead good and clever and lovely and everything, its a thing that happens, the deepest love of music still gets wishy washy once you start wearing comfortable pants.

Wil buy this album now though.

I try

I try to get into this fella but really I think he's boring. Am I terrible?

I would

I would very much like to fuck the one with the big black hair.
He should become a proper prostitue.
poo poo band.

ta

Thank you for reviewing this - I saw it mentioned on the Andrew Bird site the other day and thought I'd give it a bash. Promptly forgot all about it - you have reminded me and reinforced initial good feeling hurrah and mild thank yous

First time on cd?

I'm sure I've got a CD single of 'Indian Rope' some where haven't I?

The kids are alright

Kitty, Daisy & Lewis did indeed take a long time to tune up and do indeed 'just play rock n roll'... but they do play extremely great good time rock n roll very very well and I enjoyed it more than anything else I have seen in ages. Everyone should go and see them at the first opportunity - They are superb.

covers...

can't agree - his originals always have charm but they are sometimes also rubbish.

poo

Just sae them at Bestival - the first song with the tap dancing was great - the rest was really poor 80's pop - like T'Pau b sides.
A shame.

Hurrah!

Thats it - Hurrah! I love all the Breeders albums and so I ma gload there is to be another one.
Hurrah. I say Hurrah!

lovely

fully makes me want to buy it without expecting the entire world to change in mahoosive ways for me - great. I'm in.

Benjamin Wetherill

Benjamin Wetherill is a good thing but strange that he's on this line up just cos everybody else is pretty well known in their way - Has something good happened for him? Hope so he's good.

I saw Mi & Lau @ 'In the pines' with Josephine Foster - they where really good but I was fully baffled as to the audiences utter silent reverence: It was very welcome but I've never seen a crowd so totally pin drop quiet for a band they hadn't heard of - I am tempted to say it was because they are both model good looking rather than because of the audiences instinctive understanding of the need for attentive listening. Am I a bad person?

Hurrah!"

What a smashing review - surely this will make people rush out and buy it and all hail Garteh as the Grand poobah he truly is.

Why are they not massively more famous and succesful? No really, why not?

Agree

exactly true.

All true -

& I think it was worth saying because it is still an oft repeated lie that Myspace has made all the difference to bands who have become succesful.

Here way below the radio it is very different - we smaller (& older, this is factor too) bands/artists who don't expect anyone to come knocking with the giant comedy cheque and instead just get on with doing our music in our own (varying levels of) bubbles, DO get the chance to promote and spread the word via myspace - its really useful for getting gigs and making the odd sale of self released stuff and finding that small, niche audience of music lovers who may well like you.

But this is the opposite of the Sandi/AM claims - the idea there is that a huge group of casual music buyers got into them because of myspace - this seems wildly unlikley.
BUT Myspace is very popular and therefore newsworthy - so having a myspace angle in your press release looks good - PLUS us tiny bands who do find it truly useful are not very news worthy :'My Space Quite good for finding venues shocker!' ... 'MySpace led to me selling literally 4 albums!' so nobody really hears about that - indeed why should they?

& occasionally quite attractive people show you pictures of their arses. Got to be good.

Last TOTP

Yes Art Brut,
yes Kylie,
Yes Bis,
Surely Take That - possibly with Lulu,
Slade doing Merry Christmas Everybody,
Marc Almond & Gene Pitney's corpse - ventriloquist style,
Imagination,
PJ Harvey,
Happy Mondays,
Hazel Dean.

Anything that only has a video and wouldn't work live should have the orignal members of Legs & Co doing a dance routine instead.

Bam Thwock

was old though wasn't it? Yes it is poo but I thought it was an unused dreg of yesteryear rather than a 'Hello we're going to sound like this now' type thing...

I'd like to see them make a record because it would probably sell very well and I'd like them to make lots of money but if the tours etc have already got them some cash then fuck it - get on with being Frank Black and Kim get on with being the Breeders - I like both those acts probably a lot more than I would like a half arsed Pixies.

however...

I also got the Midlake album which is great so it may just have suffered in comparison.

dtb

By coincidence I got his album yesterday and had one listen last night - First impression was it's a bit boring, I will persevere.

I agree

Ed Harcourt should be my cup of tea, but he remains not. I do not know why.

So that's it...

beautifully explained chaps, Thank you -I shall look forward to it all the more, indeed I shall purchase it right about.... now.

nice review

Thank you, nice review. I'm still going to buy it but I know what to expect now!

hmmm

I was drawn in by the name and the idea of him and bought 2 EP's which I realise now I never play because I don't actually like them. This could well mean he is destined for huge success but basically he's not that interseting is he?

I am

Looking forward to hearing this muchly -sounds my tea cup but: suprised, nay amazed, that NOBODY has thus far mentioned Andrew Bird in any reviews of this album.

Andrew Bird is reasonably well known isn't he? And surely when it comes to 'one man with a violin and a multi track pedal' he is the main man, no?

Really - not suggesting it in anyway effects the quality or originality of this album just thought it would be a very relevant comparison to make - relevant to the point of unavoidable in fact. Maybe I'm just being narrow minded and assuming everybody has heard of people I like. He is also quite handsome, unfortunatley this sometimes makes a difference with me.

lovely and wise

A great review of a no doubt great gig (wasn't actually *there* or anything as obvious as that)
The thought ocurs....

What can happen to Emmy? What can she do and where can she go? We all love her and want her ot be a success of some sort on terms of her own but where is there for her to spread those spectacular wings? This is not a rhetorical question. Really,I'd like to know what folks think....

sort of inevitable...

We all liked them when we should have loved them. I feel guilty! they deserved better than the middling status they will be remembered for -perhaps in a few years time a little reunion or unreleased gem or best of will redress the balance...

I...

quite like the Fratellis. I'd do Andy Hopkirk, whomever he may be, though so I'd probably pretend not to like the fratellis is I ever meet him....

Mostly agree

Not great but likeable - kind of charming but that feels a bit spoiled because, and this may just be me, does anybody else suspect that somebody domewhere is spending lots of money on these chaps?
