how on earth

is saddle creek a "small" label when they have Bright Eyes, The Faint, Tokyo Police Club, Cursive and Two Gallants etc. etc.
Oh and there's a European office. This is bigger than pretty much any other independent label at the moment.

these dudes, i believe

www.mixtapeclub.com

i think this new version of wait for the summer is great - takes a few listens but it's much more like the live show.

play

They sound like a band playing at being their favourite bands. Am I missing something? I just think it sounds like a watered down version of a lot of music that has been coming from the US for the last 10 years. It's not terrible by any means, just a major-label incarnation of something that's been popular for years.

The drums are mixed really horribly - it's the same compression they put on mid-west christian rock bands.

i'm not complaining

i'm saying it's dumb

dumbest

idea i've seen in a long time.

surely a large portion of THE POINT in fanzines was the do it yourself aspect. And surely a large portion of THE FUN in fanzines was making the mistakes and learning from them.

any fool who turns up to this doesn't deserve to write a note about music, or anything else.

DO IT YOURSELF!

without wanting to drag this out

"well my premise is
all that is punk rock is all that is good in music. punk rock being not just a musical genre but an ethos (read this band will be your life for better examples, or any biography of Liszt or John Cage)."

...is a really odd statement. Unless you are pretty much saying that you dislike most popular music. Which would then just seem to make you sound narrow minded.

Why exactly is punk rock "all that is good in music."? elucidate, please.

if you want to, that is.

did you consider

they have no desire to be Punk Rock?

this entire comment is so far wide of the mark, i strongly advise anyone who has read it to disregard it completely and just listen to the band.

what on earth made you think they were trying to be a dance band for goodness sake? because they used some electronic sounds? that is ridiculous.

really?

I thought it was a very dull show - again hampered by poor KoKo acoustics but they were way too reliant on the newer material - the older songs (anything pre-4AD period), of which there weren't many, sounded a lot better and a lot more vibrant.

Sounded like they were going through the motions. A shame they aren't the live force they once were.

no one

would give a toss about this band if it was four ugly guys playing exactly the same thing, note for note, word for word. The phrase 'Terminally Average' was coined especially for them.

Joanna Newsome is...

Enya for the 2000s.

It's Ladyfinger (ne)

Not Ladyfingers (ne)
and they are awesome.
