couldn't agree more
i bought this during my second year of uni and i too was fixated by Stan initially, wonderful sample of blando, and a great story about cult of personality and celebrity obsession. yes i think he did pre empt the current zeigeist of 'reality tv etc..' the album certainly has challenging moments, the use of language can be uncomfortable at times, but it demands to be heard. Life is full of things we don't want to see and hear but are bombarded with. Is his gory lyricism any worse than Gadaffi paraded before a baying media? Eminem made that great leap of crossing musical landscapes without pandering to specific audiences, i feel that was his greatest strength on his first 2 records, frustratingly he became a parody of himself and has since released nothing but soul/rock samples with some dre style beats. those initial heights he scaled were grand.
an incredible album
that pushed them in to the realms of bands such as Tool who have their own (although much imitated, often with terrible results) distinct sound.
great band all in all. and my my how good was Diamond Eyes last year!!!
Got tickets
VERY EXCITED BY THIS
absolutely love this album
can certainly here the bloc party comparisons though. This album is superior mainly down to Andrea's voice being more tuneful than kele's.
EASILY MY ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Agree with the review, fully justified score and breakdown. i have pushed it on to my friends as well - can't wait for the nOvember show with Four Tet hmmmmmmmmm
laura viers and errors
have sold this festival to me
Can certainly hear desaparecidos
in them.
Album of the year??? Hmmmmmm possibly :-)
this is all male centric
aint it
rubbish
that is all
^agreed^
:-)
great artist
who i feel is sorely underated- i will be adding this to my collection
really impressed with the songs on their myspace
think this may be my next purchase
Purchased
and i concur it is a goodie
just ordered this on amazon
it better be a goodie :-)
this excites me
love themselves
i found watching them live was pretty fun
although repetative, especially the vocals.
the album is immense
great return and most welcome
they were indeed an excellent band.
I was fortunate enough to see them live at The Portland arms with another sadly defunct band 'cutting pink with knives'
great performers and a genuine appreciation of the crowd.
good lookin soundtrack
Film will certainly suck.
This album is great
bought it yesterday and have played it about 6 times through, it improves with each listen.
Stand out Tracks are
Dear God
Sandman, Brakeman and me
A man called Truth
Ahead of the Curve
Slow Down Jo
losin Yo Head
Magic Marker
Map Of The World
daisy is brill
:-)
i'm sooo getting this
my last copy was stolen when i got burgled grrrrrrrr
i am eager to hear this,
but he hasn't topped his first album and earlier E.P's, so i don't expect to be blown away
very excited about the london show
welcome back guys you've been missed
the temper trap
were my highlight-never heard them before and was pleasantly surprised.
jefrey lewis was a close 2nd again never heard before and now i need his back catalogue-great performer
trent will probably
carry on under some other guise.
My main issue with the 'preachers'
Bono and Chris Martin i'm looking squarely at you, is the blatant hypocrisy. Bono bought into the company (Pandemic) that make the game mercenaries, a series of games that involves invasions of certain politically hot countries, so while he preaches peace he's promoting war.
Chris Martin talks about global warming yet has a private jet. These are the peopel that should stay out of politics oh and politicians!!
tut tut
idlewild returned to form on their last album.
nope
:-)
love the single
which i heard for the first time last night, will invest in the album i think!!
ordered this today from play
very excited indeed :-)
Agreed
:-)
I think
that's the issue. It isn't a Bright Eyes record so it is bound to be slightly different, i remember hearing Bright Eyes for the first time and thinking that it wasn't as good as Desperacidos, but they grew on me. The bloke is pure talent!!
i like the initial two tracks that
were available for streaming, not heard the rest of the album though!
i hope i'm not disappointed
er....where's Haligh Haligh
???????????????
but in the words of Larry David it's otehrwise "Pretty, Pretty Good"
Reviews will either confirm
what you know and reinforce your opinion of something, or say the opposite to what you think. Either way they can stimulate conversation points and is that not the point?
oh and fighting with wire
briliant!!
Get well Soon- is my album of the year so far
Cadence Weapon is a blinder as well
Foals pretty good album, although i feel it is slightly repetitive and doesn't match up to the live performances!!
yet to get Subtle and Johnny Foreigner but i've heard good things!!
Portishead is a great return
Raconteurs
Gutter Twins
Festivals
offer a totally different live experience than a stadium concert.
Festivals are often more about the experience as a whole not just the bands, and i feel that the ones that focus soley on music such as Reading and V, fall short of being a festival and seem more like a 3 day concert any way.
This is a worthy purchase
and for a me a contender for album of the year.
It is an eclectic mix of styles and sounds. I'd pitch it between Radiohead and Patrick Wolf especially some of the vocal parts.
yeah
he was great at the park in Peterborough supporting Frank Turner and Jonah, fantastic voice!!
ah so the hypodermic needle theory rears its head again
pop culture causing crime - what about the numerous other factors that could be looked at rather than scapegoating music.
It is well known and greatly researched that one of the major causes of crime is criminals - bang em up i say oh and kill em Grrrrr :-)
LAME
At least i saew them [play live though!!
REALLY LIKING
the new album, especially head down!!!
ah Boy sets Fire
i was glad i saw them before they split!!
Spy Vs Spy were damn good!! as were stars rain down!

Impressed
by the first listen. It certainly has a rougher sound, and feels more like the logical follow up to silent alarm. Kele's voice is the best it has been, certainly hitting the notes with less strain.it is altogether more coherent than intimacy, which felt like a Radiohead tribute album in places. This is more punky and rocking. The filler parts are pointless though, just give me songs!
