I love that unexpected moment in Whorses..

where they briefly turn into Hella!
Cloud of Stink, Shock Shock, Bubbles and TGR are also all very good. Many of Honour is utter torpor. the rest falls somewhere in between.
I like it more than Puzzle, I think.
Has anyone downloaded Sky Demon. It's a bonus track on the Itunes version of the album. And it should really have made the cut.

Dear god

it's so, so bad. If you're Wondering... is the only thing of any merit on there. I'd take Green/Maladroit-era Weezer in a hearbeat over this shower.

Seth Cohen

Um...yeah, that's great, Sufj....

Now actually record some new music

Would have loved to have seen...

Future of the Left on there. Travels... is by far my favourite British album of the past 12 months.
Journal For Plague Lovers is a surprising omission

The most ill-fitting video

you're ever likely to see. Epic, sweeping desert shots to the sounds of... Keith Chegwin making armpit noises in a Union Jack tuba.

See, I dont like the design

Times New Roman makes it look a bit amateurish. Too white as well.

There's a few cracking B-sides from the Puzzle era

A Headline ("it's hip to be square)
Miracle of Survival
Relief or Fight
Coward
Kittens, Cakes and Cuddles
Scared of Lots of Everything
all very good, esp Miracle of Survival

I like to

follow Ross round Northumberland Street HMV- unsettling

um...

Mike,is your review based on the 8 tracks that have leaked, or the whole album?I notice that there's no mention of the two tracks that haven't turned up yet. I think it'd be a bit rich to review an album based on only 4/5ths of its content.
The Greatest Man That Ever Lived is tops, by the way. You're probably right about the rest of the album though.

bingo

absolutely.

Really bland track

the new album really is a disappointment

ace

I enjoyed that, despite its brevity.
Roll on the next Weez record. It'll almost certainly be gash, but the thrill before you actually hear it for the first time is something else.

Reuben's release isn't eligible for the charts, unfortunately

Someone accidentally registered the track 'Blood Bunny Larkhall' instead of 'Christmas is Awesome'. A shame as it's been selling pretty well.

title should have been

"....rounded up by suicide squeeze"

Circles?Rounded?Geddit?

wow

I just listened to this track on a whim and it's fantastic! I've only known Pinback by name up until now, but I will investigate immediately.

I'm of the opinion that this lot are pretty overrated. For all the talk of progression and inventiveness I always feel that they come across as repetitive, especially vocally. There was a spark with Highly Refined Pirates, but they've never built on that and all their subsequwnt output has sounded very samey.

I liked it

the review, I mean. Can't stand Nash.

it sounds a bit like the dears

not a bad thing by any means.

"I would fucking love to hear a song about a castle."

Tru dat.
The Enemy are a wretched band. Their opinions count for nothing. In fact, I may now go out of my way to listen to the most opulent, upper-class music i can find. If the lead singer doesn't have a double barrelled surname I'm not interested.

skip vfvd

(their second album) and move onto the new one. You wont be disappointed.

Also....

review?

Can't wait to hear the new stuff live

INWT is fantastic. My fave so far this year.

Yeah, I like it...

I can't love it just yet. Maybe with a few more listens....

Any chance we can have a review of Reuben-In Nothing We Trust in the next few days?

Cross=

God

"They look shit as well (yes that matters)"

I despair, I truly do.

I truly hope...

that they don't choose Folding Stars as the next single.

Sorry, wait...

you're denouncing your review?
Well, anyway...I expected muchos negativity surrouding Puzzle. and this review has put forward every criticism i expected to hear....

Still really like it though.

Yep, fair

personally I'm a big fan of it, but you're absotively right in your assertion that it's a bit stadium friendly in places.
However, "the midget is frigid, i put it to you" is solid gold!
Plus 'Who's Got A Match and A Whole Child Ago are excellent.

Sob

Poor thisgirl. They should have been huge.

i still haven't got that free download, and now the site is down.

but you can hear 'if it takes you home' on their myspace-
www.myspace.com/idlewild

sounds pretty good. a fair bit like 'a modern way of letting go' off T.R.P.

I like this a lot

from the tracks i've heard. Especially I am warm and powerful and House Fire.

oh..

i like 'back to school' a lot. shows how much i know.
good article though. It'll be interesting to see what sort of reviews SNW gets, seeing as they're now regarded by NME and their ilk as "the thinking man's nu-metal band". I'd imagine it'll get safe 7/10s across the board and that no one will actually listen to the vast majority of it.

Good Stuff

I'm gonna investigate the album.

Giant Drag?!?

Not sure how well Annie Hardy's helium voiced tirade will fit into the scheme of things, but proof yet again of the invention and scope of the 'tones. I'm not sure why everyone's so dismissive of the self titled. Hexagram was the best thing they've ever done.

Horrible Stuff

It's terrifying to think that one person can do that to another.
Get well soon.

hmm

I've had this album for a week and i still can't get my head around it. The tiger and the duke was a fantastic ep but i feel this e.p may be a little too progressive. 'horses in the sky' is a great track but elsewhere the album seems to lack any structure or cohesion.
Still, I got a free t-shirt with it so it's not all bad.

You forgot...

the fall of troy.they're fantastic live.Go watch.

NME editor wins an award?!

yawn.....
more DiS NME bashing.
to be honest it's common knowledge that the NME is currently in a rut in terms of extensively covering interesting, let alone groundbreaking, music.
However, there is still plenty to relish in the NME. For example, this week's 'radar' section features Dungen -a pretty ace Swedish band who, without the aid of the NME, i would know nothing about.
Sure, there's plenty of trash. it's a given. but i'm sure most people would choose the NME's rampant overhyping of bands than, say, Pitchfork's lamentably negative attitude towards the vast majority of music on offer.

Weezer get Beverly Hills ready

aaah.2005 is gonna be good what with the world's most melodically gifted band back to their best.
it's gonna rock!

Bright Eyes - Take It Easy

can you believe that 'lua' is number 1 and 'Take it easy' is at 2 in the american billboard charts. I knew they had a big following but that's quite remarkable.

Winnebago Deal - Dead Gone

Are these jokers still going?

Re: The Libertines - The Libertines

that last comment was probably the most astute i've ever read on this website.
less of the ageism.

Reuben - Racecar Is Racecar Backwards

wow.what an album!i dont think there's a weak track on there.i cant stop listening to it.

Edgar Wright - Shaun Of The Dead

what a bad review.film reviews are the worst bit of drowned in sound.they're sporadic and often pointless.and in this case wrong.

BBC Defend Faltering TOTP

i used to watch totp for the occasional prospect of a half decent band on.i remember when idlewild played 'actually its darkness' on totp.the song had reached something like no 24 in the charts.now they barely even play stuff that's in the top 20.most of the time is taken up with exclusives from big artists-artists who would almost certainly appear on there once their song has charted anyway.totp is just helping the more commercial artists/groups get bigger and forcing the smaller bands further and further out of public conciousness

thisGIRL: The Return. New Single & RockSound Tour

actually, they're on a par with jetplane landing for tours. 2002-2003 they did over 200 shows. Go and buy that rocksound cd thing. It has the new demo "moustache fit for a King" on it.
