Re: RIAA h4xx0r3d!

I think the hacker was making a statement that by making the limp biscuit mp3's free that no one would waste their time downloading it anyway...

Re: RIAA h4xx0r3d!

I think the hacking of the RIAA is justifiable.

Especially when you consider the many young, impressionable minds of America that have been hacked and brainwashed with their "fast food-ist" approach in appropriating money to the most pretentious, un-thought provoking, uncreative forms of music and selling this as being representative of life, the world, and what music is about....

The RIAA should be ashamed of themselves and use this moment, while their site's down, to reflect on using better means of determining the direction that the music world is heading in.

I mean, when songs like "skeletons in my closet" by Eminem is promoted as ethereal and thought provoking material, it's understandable that actions such as the hacking of RIAA's web sit would occur.

Cheers to this act of protest!

Re: Anti-American (By Mark Thomas)

Part II.

Being American myself we must keep in mind that:

1. Bush is English (related to the queen in fact...check it out)

2. The British Government is Street smart enough to follow the money so to speak and America is the country with "deep pockets."

3. 85% of America's population is of English descent..ahem..including myself.

4. Mark Thomas is perhaps a schizophrenic? or by his comment "hating Americans" does he really mean "hating the American Government?" in such case I think he's asking a valid question.

5. A few people wisely pointed out the issue of "corruption." Politics by definition is corrupt so based on that premise, all country's governments are corrupt.

6. Americans being big mouths? Some are I must admit...but our nation is full of big mouths and quiet types too. Though I wouldn't be surprised if a high percentage of our noise pollution could be directly traced to bickering.

7. I agree with the "World Series" comment.

8. A lot of generalizations here. I'm sure a high percentage of this group are Englanders living in England.

Please share me experiences you've had with those Americans you've met.

9. As for improvements in Governmental Systems, like a car, all governmental systems are in a perpetual state of being fixed.

I don't believe there is a perfect system so expect corruption to continue to thrive in the next couple of milleniums to come.

Peace out! Now back to the sound!

Re: Anti-American (By Mark Thomas)

Two Part post, the following song by the Dead Kennedy's: "Kinky Sex That Makes the World Go Round" summarizes my opinions on the USA/Great Britain Issue..check out the song, I'm convinced 95% of you American or English will agree with this.

1. Check out the lyrics of this song (although written in 1986, the facts are almost the same):

"Kinky Sex Makes The World Go 'Round
Greetings... This is the Secretary at the State Department of the United States... We have a problem. The companies want something done about this sluggish world economic situation... Profits have been running a little thin lately and we need to stimulate some growth... Now we know there's an alarming high number of young people roaming around in your country with nothing to do but stir up trouble for the police and damage private property. It doesn't look like they'll ever get a job... It's about time we did something constructive with these people... We've got thousands of 'em here too. They're crawling all over... The companies think it's time we all sit down, have a serious get-together - and start another war... The president? He loves the idea! All those missiles streaming overhead to and fro... Napalm... People running down the road, skin on fire... The Soviets seem up for it... The Kremlin's been itching for the real thing for years. Hell, Afghanistan's no fun... So whadya say?... We don't even have to win this war. We just want to cut down on some of this excess population... Now look. Just start up a draft; draft as many of those people as you can. We'll call up every last youngster we can get our hands on, hand 'em some speed, give 'em an hour or two to learn how to use an automatic riffle and send 'em on their way... Libya? El Salvador? How 'bout Northern Ireland? Or a 'moderately repressive regime' in South America? We'll just cook up a good Soviet threat story in the Middle East - we need that oil... We had Libya all ready to go and Colonel Khadafy's hit squad didn't even show up. I tell ya... that man is unreliable. The Kremlin had their fingers on the button just like we did for that one... Now just think for a minute - we can make this war so big - so BIG... The more people we kill in this war, the more the economy will prosper... We can get rid of practically everybody on your dole queues if we plan this right. Take every loafer on welfare right off our computer rolls... Now don't worry about those demonstrators - just pump up your drug supply. So many people have hooked themselves on heroin and amphetamines since we took over, it's just like Vietnam. We had everybody so busy with LSD they never got too strong. Kept the war functioning just fine... It's easy. We've got our college kids so interested in beer they don't even care if we start manufacturing germ bombs again. Put a nuclear stockpile in their back yard, they wouldn't even know what it looked like... So how 'bout it? Look - war is money. The arms manufacturers tell me unless we get our bomb factories up to full production the whole economy is going to collapse... The Soviets are in the same boat. We all agree the time has come for the big one, so whadya say?!?... That's excellent. We knew you'd agree... the companies will be very pleased."

Re: Sick Of Conor Oberst

Their song "Something Vague" is actually pretty excellent.

The other stuff by Bright Eyes is "somewhat vague" to me though :( .

The Appleseed Cast + Cursive + Terrashima - London Camden Dublin Castle

I agree with the Appleseed Cast comments. I saw them play in San Francisco at the Great American Music Hall last june. Watching Appleseed Cast perform is like getting stoned on acid without actually taking a hit of acid: the high gets gradually stronger and stronger, reaches a pinnacle, and then you gradually come back down from it.

They have a very surreal method of performing. Not knowing what the bandmembers looked like, they walked on the stage unobtrusively, like roadies, and started plugging in the instruments, doing sounds checks, etc., whilst sipping bottles of beers and completely avoiding eye contact with the audience.

Gradually...as they were doing sound checks, in a sort of crescendo, the fuzz, feedback, and noise got gradually louder...this build-up would last for 10 minutes...until they opened the show with the most symbolic song imaginable considering that that day in San Francisco was hot, blue skies, and beautiful. The song they opened the show with? "Forever Longing the Golden Sunsets."

Appleseed Cast has a brilliant sound that is 100,000 times greater than their band name. I thought they were a country group when I first read about them and noted that they were based out of middle america. They remind me a lot of Ride.

I talked very briefly with Chris, the singer/guitarist after the gig, and told him his band rule. He was very courteous and shyly replied back, "Gee, thanks." Not much in the conversation but I can say that he's a warm, humble, friendly artist.

Appleseed Cast is the first band since "Archers of Loaf", that I immediately went and bought all their cds after hearing a few of their tracks.

If you haven't heard them, they are a must!

I was bummed out that they had a short set list as they were touring with Mates of State (they're ok too...)

I eagerly await their next album!!
