Black Holes in the Sand
Is one of my favourite ever records. His cover of the Husker Du song "Diane" is so chillingly brilliant...
Fires in Distant Buildings is a great record too, a combination of folk and post-rock really. It's just nice that he's getting a little bit of recognition after all this time.
This band (is it a band these days?) are amazing
Saw Nick supporting Sufjan Stevens solo in Nottingham a few years ago, at the Maze. What a gig, what a venue. This single is great. Can't wait for the album...Obviously not in this review, but Gravenhurst are one of the most underrated acts I know. They deserve to be widely known and loved.
I find it hard to belive that someone as good as him is up for the Mercury
But, it's great! Saw him opening for Damien Rice in London earlier this year. He was great...Not sure the crowd knew what to make of him though. Top album.
I'm a bit slow catching on....
but I've just got into this band. How amazing are they? Very much looking forward to Citrus coming out here....They sound amazing live too. Gutted I missed their live shows over here.

I have an old demo EP from Her Name is Calla
somewhere (the songs are on my computer, they are lovely) from when I played before them (I think) at the Social in Nottingham. That was a chastening gig for me. When you realise you're in the presence of greatness it can make you rise to the challenge or fade to a shadow of a man. I became a shadow. Still, I said that night that they should be huge, so it looks like I got in on it early!
