hmmm

...maybe.

also...

The Youthmovie comparison makes me sad. Souvaris use the power of funk (like Bilge Pump) to make the off-kilter time signatures seem natural. Bands who intend to sound "post-rock" sound like they take themselves too seriously, hence their music sounds leaden, A Hat feels unburdened because of the funk. James Brown lives.

meh...

Dan from Souvaris is a really great hugger. He gave me his (really lovely) solo stuff on a CD in return for a hug.

Riddle of Steel

... were really knackered from travelling from Paris earlier that day and I think it came across. And they didn't sound-check because they were so tired. Considering, I thought they held up well, really nice guys.

something was seriously fucked with the pa...

...everything was working fine in sound-checks. was really odd and stressful trying to work out what went wrong, we concluded that an emergency managed to damage one of the top speakers. That's. fucking. rawk.

and...

...a sentence consisting of five words where one word is an anagram of another (ie. expect, except). I love the English language.

expect nothing...

...except total subjugation!

And the occasional sulpherous rain.

YES...

Recognition. At last.

"Why...

...should I bother posting on DiS, noone will read it?"

sigh.

this album...

...has left me so apathetic, I just sulked around for three hours saying, "Why should I bother?", "Why clean it up? It'll just get messy again" and "Why bother listening to music, all the songs will eventually end?"

This album sounds like one, big indifferent shrug when it should be expansive, adventurous and downright stupid sounding in places.

that

is a shame. I did enjoy their rawk the couple of times I saw them. They were awesome at Wives' last show - I think that's right. I knew that the guitarist (Matt?) went AWOL for a bit when they were supposed to do a show.

he is

doing his PhD at my uni, Imperial College. Shows how much of an idiot he is to return to this shithole... he should've returned to somewhere that doesn't suck like your grandmother eating baby food.

shit

is this not c zine?

this is album is different to "we lowered a microphone..." in the best possible way. Styne Vallis is a propulsive album in its dark ways whereas the last album was plaintive. Wow, I guess you could say I've reached Pretention Alert - Code Red.

to saying that this is post-rock

...just misses the point completely. This music isn't about pounding away at constant riffs but mixing eerie tune-filled pop songs with found sounds and an engrossing mythology. This album is far too beautiful to be called pretentious; the songs are simple and restrained to add tension whereas it would be too simple to kick in the distortion and explore that dynamic dead-end. If by Ardency, you mean that awful post-"yes we have our serious faces"-rock Nottingham band then you are really taking the piss. Buy Styne Vallis, support good music, not mis-guided Muse fans.
