Just another example..
..supporting the fact that British music is going to pot and the stuff coming from across the pond and across the channel simply sounds better and so much more refreshing than the UK indie scene's obsession with rehashing last weeks cool sounding band to their own money making advantage.
Take note. PLEASE.
But also. I don't wish to be seen as slandering the whole of the British music scene. Yes. We have produced some fantastic bands in the last ten years.
So. That covers me from attack from indie fans everywhere.
uh.. what is this?
they asked for a fucking review.
not a goddamn piece of creative writing.
please. please. please. tell me that this is not to become the reviewing style of the future..
=/
i do love hor DiS tell it like it is
NME?
heck they probably shoved them on the front cover of their magazine in light of this single.
but i have to say.
they are top blokes, when they played the drum and monkey in ipswich everyone had a raucous time and they sat down and got pissed with the regulars.
and they played with vigour and delighful energy but now they are everyones favourite band and they aren't playing to music loving cynics who heckle at any band they dislike in dingy pubs they don't have to fucking make an effort. shame.
bargain.
it was a bargain of a festival line up.
plenty of pretty small bands and all for £88?
i would have been there.
but i was relying on poor ticket sales and gracious touts.
but there are kind of one too many festivals.
alas.
indeed..
Perhaps I have painted myself in a harsh light, but I don't really listen to much new stuff - I am listening to Simon & Garfunkel right now for instance (oh the beautiful harmonies!). I do go to many gigs and have been extremely disappointed and surprised by what I have seen this year - I enjoyed Patrick Wolf immensely and understand why he has a legion of fans - he plays the Theremin for fucks sake; but Air Traffic who I thought could be a bit different turned out to be a generic clone of some other band; Ripchord sounded v. similar to Arctic Monkey's and Mumm-ra were a bunch of women who let a technical glitch get in the way of kicking off a gig - what happened to the rock n roll attitude of not caring?
I am not completely writing off British music - there is some great stuff out there if you are able to sift through the utter crap that is around in multitudes; which takes a heck of a lot of time, but at this particular moment in time I am enjoying what I am hearing from futher afield.
I will get back to living in the present soon.
woot!
Hurrah!
Give me foreign music any day.
I will listen to all this indie shit because it is not exactly what one would call taxing upon the mind and is generally what everyone is into at this particular moment in time, but give me A Silver Mt. Zion, M83 and a bit of Godspeed! (throw in some Radiohead as they are possibly one of the more original British bands of this particular moment in time and they never cease to amaze) any day and I am marvellously happy - the skill involved in making such beautiful music that actually makes you marvel at the art of playing an instrument (it would seem to me that anyone can pick up a guitar these days and play it with minimal help from the internet) goes above and beyond what the indie scene does.
Whilst indie music may make people dance around like lunatics and sing raucously (which I am not opposed to) it is all ridiculously over rated and I think that the bands that inspired them actually have a hell of a lot more to them than the superficial wasters who are making music today.
(and I am well off being 25 - some of us young folk are just stuck in a past they never had)
And everyone should own a gramophone.
Not just because they are beautiful looking contraptions but because the music that I have discovered by purchasing a box of old 78s is absolutely marvellous and mystifying and it just has a certain... quality to it.
thanks..
..for stating the fucking obvious.
if i hear this song again i will probably vomit up my insides and die.
ergh
i'd rather shove my head down a toilet and flush it repeatedly.
(yes i've seen them live - how can you tell?)
the man has got a point!
Just Abuse Me - good track
But I saw the band at a gig recently and they were mediocre.
I have seen better local bands with more talent and why do people whine on so about lost love?
GET OVER IT.
They did.
Also the fact they only played a 45 minute set was a little disappointing but under the circumstances appreciated.
I was disappointed. I thought they could be quite cool.
Alas - just another generic indie band to discard in the bin after a month or two.
Why does everything...
.. have to say something in this day and age?
And the Arctic Monkeys?
Dull. Dull. Dull.
A load of pretentious bull shit.
But thats what most music is these days right?
LMT are alright.
I just see a lot of people jumping...
Bandwagon anyone?
well...
...I've never been.
But much love goes out to The Clash for that great song and I am in agreement with Mr_JDTraynor.
And frankly I am sick of the fat cats building over every venue I love.
"Do you...
.. dig graves?"
"yeah they're alright i guess"
"Thats marvellous. I think they're wonderful."
And that is all I have to say upon the matter.
hell yeah
Battle are splendid.
Had the pleasure of seeing them last year only wasn't too happy with the fact they played out the set with "Children."
Other than that - cool band.
woot!
A truly great band and to quote Almost Famous:
"they have the courage to be drunken bafoons"
Having seen them twice now and barely been able to discern what Dave was singing and with people asking me:
"What the fuck are they singing? It sounds like get a boner get a fucking boner"
(a friend of mine commenting on "Get Your Mood On")
To the ramones! To the ramones! To the ramones!
(because lets face it thats all you are ever going to understand...)
I'm clairvoyant...
The Maccabees
[amen]
The Pigeon Detectives
[because Matt has the coolest hair and they rocked my favourite, now deceased, venue. And. They. Have. The. Best. Name. Ever.]
Dustin's Bar Mitzvah
[they truly have the courage to be drunken bafoons and the best version I have ever heard of "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Period.]
Little Man Tate
[top blokes - free gig - and they make the crowds go wild]
Air Traffic
["Just Abuse Me"]
Over and Out.

thank fuck
I am not going to pay to see a fucking line up that was identical to a festival I went to last year.
ATP vs. The Fans had an incredible line up this year, bands I'd heard of and bands I'd hadn't - £150 for nice accommodation and three days worth of fucking great bands that were not on the main festival scene.
FUCKING AWESOME.
Only too many people are too narrow minded to buy tickets to a festival that has a bunch of bands they haven't heard of.
But frankly lets keep it that way.
Unfortunately I couldn't get tickets to this years event as the "music loving" fuck heads I know wouldn't pay to share a chalet at Butlins with me because they'd never heard of the bands before.
They parade around calling themselves music lovers just because they were big enough to get shit wasted in a field and then stumble over to see Bloc Party or Babyshambles. Good. Give yourself a pat on the back you.
GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK.
And has no one heard of the festivals abroad?? THEY HAVE FUCKING GREAT LINE - UPS!
Better than the UK ones fo' sho.
People who claim to be "music lovers" = People who haven't got a fucking clue.
*sighs*
So. I'll be seeing you in a field in Norway on a beach in Spain - Summer 2008.
