Emperor's New Clothes

A well written review, but how much of that nine-tenths-of-a-perfect-record was really earned by 'the music' alone?
I think this is how critics would have responded to The Beatles or The Smiths had they not quit/imploded while they were ahead. Radiohead, as a spent force, are tring to co-exist with their own legacy.

the Best Of has been out for 8 years now

it's called '100 Broken Windows'

what's dead funny

is that the manics have finally become the inevitable parody of themselves ... but on their own terms ... and certain myopic reviewers won't get the 'joke'. It's not a great record (not even a particularly good one) but it certainly exposes lazy music jounalism. That alone makes it worth more than four.

The drugs reference

went over your head, but at least you learned a new word. Are you Alex Turner?

the vocals

are pure beefheart. And the stuff about it being overlong is a load of garbage.

Level-headed review..

this a decent album's but like the debut can be filed under E for ephemera.

Why, oh, Why...

do reviewers constantly cream their proverbial cecks over the lyrics? I bet Alex Turner has never read a book in his life. L8R INNOV8RS.

No cunt's gonna read this but...

the reviewer completely misses the point that great art can exist out of context - sure, it's romantic to listen to this as though it soundtracks 'something' - but forget that. This stands on its own artistic merits.

Boss idea

the roll call of acts with literary bents means this ain't exactly like asking last year's NME tour bands to soundtrack the Mr. Men classics. Roll on 5th March!

Nah, the focus of that picture...

is the dog's cleavage; the canine is superfluous.

Bigger picture missed..

Yeah, so these mixes are pure ephemera but they at least draw (greater) attention to arguably one of THE crucial contributors to the canon of pop music...and that, surely, is a good thing!!??! However, no Beatles: no Merseybeat: no Scouse recidivists: no Kooks. Damn you George Martin!

MOR MOR MOR?

saw idlewild in circa 100 broken windows and they were incendiary. that's how i like to remember them.
