They are really great live.

I went to see Now It's Overhead a few years ago on their co-headlining tour of Europe with Early Day Miners. Early Day Miners Gave a beautiful performance. The last track on Let Us Garlands Bring, "A Common Wealth", is my favourite - such a worthwhile way to spend a quarter of an hour.

Kriek

is my drink of the day! Hurrah!

I liked

this interview. My enjoyment probably came more from the fact that there was a feature on Fucked Up than anything else. It would have been nice to read more about their sound though, although admittedly, interviewing a drummer and talking about lyrics doesn't make much sense.

I'm tired of

people knocking City of Echoes as they do. Mike, I think you are a great writer and I accept that City of Echoes may have just not clicked for you so this is a general criticism not one for you individually. City of Echoes does a very clever thing, takes the crushing brilliance of the 15 minute length songs present in their previous releases and maintains that strength whilst presenting it in songs which are of suitable length to allow the band to play a decent number of songs in a live set.

With regard to this Tusk album though, I am yet to hear it and really hope it is a good as you say. The mention of Manatees makes me very excited indeed.

They're playing Rhaaa?!

Why did I have to move to England. Cunting cunt. Are they headlining? This makes me very sad.

Unrelated to the actual story,

the fact that they are touring and being supported by SSS and Fucked Up is amazing.

This is really good news,

I will certainly be getting it.

I love Serena Maneesh,

it is good to have them sort of back! Now, if only they would tour...

I pretty much second all of this.

They are, I think, my favourite band so I really want this album to be just as good as New Adventures. I don't think Reveal was all that bad. I think I quite liked "I'm Gonna DJ" but it was about 3 years ago when I heard it, I am a little concerned that they're putting something on the record that has been around for that long.

I really like

the soaring bit which is: “…And every night, the city liiiights, they’ll be out for us, they’ll be out for us!
And every night, we’ll watch the stars, they’ll be out for us, they’ll be out for us!” But then the rest is not as good, the guitars are best when at their shoe-gaziest.

Thank

you! First new stuff I have heard, and very exciting it is too.

Agree with Mike,

this has made me love them some more. I voted for it in the albums of the year list, so hope it does well. Thanks Kev, for another great interview.

Vampire Weekend.

Also, when Pete and the Pirates release their album, they will be massivo I think.

The London

date has been announced for ages.

I love

Fucked Up, this is going to be amazing!

This was a

nicely put together piece, I really like Gallows a lot so it was good to read a decent interview with them after all the shit ones you can read in certain publications.

Fucked Up

and SSS are both amazing. I want to go to this but there is no where near Canterbury and I don't want to see fucking Anti Flag in London.

Apologies

for lazy Blood Brothers reference.

I'm really

looking forwrd to hearing this. The sadness of Blood Brothers split is still overwhelming, but hearing this will give me hope in the sound once more.

Ah. Thank you,

I understand now, thanks to actually reading the words on the screen.

I don't understand

how to subscribe! How do I do it? Am I an idiot?

80s Matchbox B-Line Disaster!

HELL FUCKING YEAH! This is going to be awesome.

Just listened

to him for the first time, i quite like. Are there any sites I can download his songs from?

Disappointing news

this is, I'd still like to hear it, Insomniac Doze is an album which i love, still not seen them live though and this review just makes me even more annoyed at missing their recent spate of gigs!

I love it

very much.

Although

I don't live in London, the fact that there's no London date actually makes me smile. I wish they came to Canterbury though!

Tim Harrington

is the coolest person on this list.

This song

is fantstic. I love this band.

balls.

Sorry.

Ben

thank you so much for writing this. Like pretty much everyone above I was brought up on this stuff and reading this has brought back so many memories. I'm listening to Lightyear now, when I was 14 and was put on the guestlist for a Whitmore (Moonska) gig, it was the greatest thing ever. Now, I wouldn't go so far as to say I am embaressed by these memories (this > Staind, agreed) but I can really appreciate the difference in quality of the bands and indeed, truely appreciate the brilliance of pretty much all the bands you mentioned.

Jeffrey Lewis

is so amazingly awesome, i bought a copy of "Guff" when he played in Ashford last month and it is brilliant! I love him!

True,

but as they had no record deal at the point of the self release, well it wasn't public knowledge, i guess they were unable to give a truely accurate idea of the release date for the CD.

Simply put,

I just do not believe they ripped people off if they offered them the thing for free, the quality of the mp3s is debatable but they are of decent enough quality to appreciate the brilliance of the album. Also, who knows yet if the discbox will be worth £40? It seems, from all accounts, like it will be, and to buy it without being a vinylist must be done with the awareness that you are about to pay for more than you can actually listen to, plus the knowledge that they were going to release it on CD sooner or later was never a secret.

How did they rip

off their loyal fans? By giving you the chance to download it for free? The label choice was hardly suprising now was it? It's good news, i agree with will126849.

Hadouken!

did indeed hold themselves up much better, i was expecting similar things from these with "public school education" but tha doesn't seem to be the case.

This was a really

nice review, it has made me want to buy this album. After listening to the tracks on his myspace, i have decided to buy buy buy!

I love this festival

for many reasons: 65 Dos played last year and i'd not seen the previously, Pelican played this year and it was incredible. Lots of folk, who, like me, have been terribly naughty and dowloaded City of Echoes already have said it's nay as good, but i love it and they largely played things from it here, it really made me appreciate it more, they are breathaking live. I cannot wait for the full European tour in the autumn. Yndi were incredible too, im in Canterbury next year so hopefully they will play gigs in my bedroom every night? Does anyone know if bands actually do that in real life? What a lovely thought...

I've got

the split they did with An Albatross who are brilliant live, i didnt know them before i got that and now i really love them. why cant they be nice and come to belgium? ive only seen english/irish dates in europe, anyone know of any others or plans of a tour over here? however DAUGHTERS are coming here next month, so that shall have to be my spazz core crazyness metal filling for the moment.

I went to...

a festival (one dayer) in Belgium this year called Rhaaa Lovely, along with other DiSers, which cost me the sum of 8euros and had free camping for the night, the bands playing were 65Dos, Grails, Deerhoof, amongst others. Basically it was awesome, took place in a primary school, all food was cheap and excellent and the place was advert free which was lovelt. It was one of the best nights of my life, i was delighted that such a small yet wonderful thing could take part in the country i live.
However, i'm also going to the Belgian version of Reading, which is Pukkelpop, largely just to see a bigger number of bands which i adore - Radiohead, Forward Russia, Envelopes, Regina Spektor etc etc. Basically, both had excellent line ups, but the larger festivals have the advantage of being able to put on a greater number of bands. I think i shall try to continue to attend at least two festivals in Belgium next year, obviously Dour would be lovely, but i was skint this year. I was told though that as well as the awesome bands present - Islands, 65Dos, Art Brut - there was a large amount of rubbis bands...another problem which larger festivals have. The smaller the festival the more forgiving you are i think of the less professional nature, at Rhaaa, there were a couple of power cuts, despite this being annoying, it was still an amazing time.

Just bought it,

a little later than most i agree but well worth the wait. It's superb. 'Wolf Like Me', 'Province' and 'Dirtywheel' are my favourite songs. It is just SO good. I can't wait to see them in August, I shall be an even happier man than i am at this very moment, which is, very much so indeed.

i am going to

the Amsterdam gig, going to be awesome. I'm seeing Radiohead in August twice now. Deerhoof were not as good as i hoped they would be when i saw them earlier this year but still an excellent band to be chosen to support.

Since By Man's room has a view... of the apocalypse

very stupidly good. incredibly good. je les love. i want that tour. please bring it to europe. it would make me happy. thank you.

Capdown - Live in M.K.

they're still on household name as far as i'm aware, but not heard anything since "smoothing away the horrors of indigestion" came out in '03. Capdown's proper album is supposed to come out later this year i think, but that's been said for the last year or so, so maybe just rumours...

My Chemical Romance - I’m Not Okay (I Promise)

i love this song. purists will hate mfor it, but everything ive heard by them is brilliant. they make up for all those hours of downloading crap from purevolume. i nearly gave up hope.

The Ed Fitz - all over?

theyre brillaint, fuck fuck fcuk! cans of rainwater is just a brilliant brilliant song.

The Libertines: not over

wasnt the point of the libertines always sweaty last minute gigs anywhere 'got instrumeznts will play' etohs? then why this more professional attitude, it doesnt correspond to libertines original ideology surely?

Original pranksta - Fiddy gets animated

its good, and funny and i really like the new ones just as much as the old ones. however, their attention should be turned completly to futurama which could be amazing if they payed it its deserved attention.

A Month in Records: January 2005

this is a really good feature, didnt know of it beofre but long may it continue!

The Blood Arm demand attention

theyre brilliant. long live the blood arm.
