Bad review
Why write a review for a band on a genre you don't like? Biased from the start and massively exagerrated - it's not 2/10. It's no progression from the first two albums - the same tricks are used. Two outstanding tracks - opening track and Saint Veronica. 6/10 overall.

Fantastic comeback.
All to easy to slate Luke's music and therefore all the more wonderful to have the privilege of not being so narrow-minded and superficial, as the majority of this pretentious website is, and to love the music for it's great, catchy tunes with great orchestrations and clever irony which everyone on this website is too up their own arse to see.

So to like his music I think is crucial to your open-minded, music-loving part of your personality. And everyone I've met who loves Luke's music has that open mind.
Basically, you know you have a healthy, open-minded music taste which ignores peer pressure and superficiality if you can love his music. Go to one of his gigs and you will get that look of agreement from people in the room.
It's a challenge, but the results are well worth it
after reading this review again..
I enjoyed it,and I think it's not as bad as it sounds. He accepts his talent and in a very crude tone is encouraging Luke to think more forwardly. Anyway, I think this record would have been so much more successful if it was actually produced well. I can't take the awful balance and the snare drum gives me a headache. And the whole record sounds really tinny. Sort all this out on the next album and hopefully for the single and he'll be on his way. For a style which is so easy to hate or conversely, hard to like (at first) - presentation and delivery of the music is essential. Failing this, there really will be no hope.
P.s. I really wanted to hate Luke's music too. When I first heard it I thought it was so boring and unoriginal and thought it was the kind of music that wasn't going to get me any fit girls, so I slammed it. But after more listens (obligatory - after going on tour with him) I got to love it. I don't know whether this makes a good or bad record. I'd ultimately say good, but for the modern consumer, this is bad. Scene before music I'm afraid these days
I thought that too
That he reminds me of Sam Isaac
Zavvi arn't cheaper
HMV online is so much cheaper than zavvi - online or instore. Only once or twice has zavvi been cheaper. And if you have a hmv student card you can use it online, including on sales, meaning I got 'wincing the night away' for £3.40. beat that Crappi

This is the reviewer, DANIEL ROSS who reviewed Paul Marshall's album, one of the shittest and most incorrect reviews on DrownedinSound. Ignore this review and listen to Luke Leighfield's music and make a judgement yourself. But dont listen to one word of this pointless, personal attack. Man up daniel and dont be so fucking immature. Shit reviews like this and paul marshall's is what is taking me and so many other people away from this site which was once good and is now just an excuse to slate something to pointless heights.
hmmm
I don't disagree with reviews which give their opinion on if an artist really shouldn't bother trying for various reasons. I think making your point a bit too much, showing you can make it in so many different words and sentences is unecessary. Unless you want to work for the NME

perfect jamie and everyone else. klaxons is the perfect example of how the radio is infected with just about 100% true statement of SHIT. dont these bands realise they are causing their inevitable doom for themselves? They will not get past 1 album, 2 if they are extremely lucky, then they will get dropped from their labels, have to work in morrissons, whilst their dreams are smashed with debts to pay. Stop for your own sakes as well as ours and for once, please just for fucking once, allow decent music to be aired, promoted and educated to what is now a generation of listeners with such low standards of what a good song is. and the nme, my god the fucking nme, you should be ashamed of yourselves, all you writers who write not articles but instead fuck around with peoples (the band's) lives you write about - making them think they are the next big thing and then blank and slate them until they split up. You bunch of undignified, cheap people

The song is good, but i still dont think theyre songs are as good as they can be. it counds like they dont put 100% into their song writing. its too repetitive, and with a bit more effort, could have key changes, changes in chords at parts, and extra bits of structure.
this song is typically hifh with so much potential, but only an averagely good song to come out of, with repetitive music which makes the some become boring after a while. just like the album
