That's a good album...

Had forgotten about Maribel.

I need to find that !

Yeah

it's a very good album.

I definitely need

to listen to Desolation Wilderness.

Good album.

Nothing new or special but very efficient.

...

First album was good.
Don't really recognize the band by reading this review, so maybe they've changed...

First album was OK but nothing special

but I'm curious to hear this one.

'Evangelista' was a brilliant album.

I wasn't totally convinced by 'Hello, Voyager' but I can't wait to hear the new one !

Good review

but for me it's a 8/10.
Like a band as The Clientele, they sound dated, but they create a very good atmosphere.

It's working again...

Am I the only one

who doesn't manage to make it work ?

Very good album.

I hate being forced to buy an album again

but this band is so good I'll do it !

Good album

lacking just a bit of something to be great !

Can't wait to hear that !

More like an 8 and even maybe a 9 for me.

But this is a nice review !

True

but I'm talking about many really influential blogs, which are later copy by many smaller blogs.
Here in France, some of the most read blogs are basically servants of a part of the industry, which used PR companies specialized on the internet communication.

What is the audience and the influence of the smaller blogs which are indeed doing what you're saying ?

Problem is :

many blogs are talking about the same bands.

Because this bands are good, you'll say.

Because they've received mail from PR/management companies, I'll say. There has been a certain uniformisation in the last 2/3 years.

Internet is brilliant to find new music but be careful not to be directed at to what to like...

So true that :

"isn’t it a little bit sad that with all the music now at our fingertips we still need someone else to tell us what to like?"

Even sadder is that many people don't even read the reviews, just check the score and in how many places the band names has already been seen..

Have to find that...

Very good album

but probably not a 9 for me.
Review is interesting but should have talked more about the music, IMHO...

Great band.

Haven't get the new album yet (is it already released?) but I highly doubt it's a 5/10...

Great interview

and he dropped some names I'm going to check soon...

First track was really beautiful.

Haven't download the second one yet !

Bonjour le nouveau visage de DiS

you look nice...

I need to find this !

Don't know live

but on records, Manhattan Love Suicides are ace !

In homage of that week,

I made 2 small posts on my blog about Savoy Grand and the really beautiful Arco...

'second hand magic' is one of my favourite song ever.

Nearly always put in on a mixtape...

Still listen regularly to the cutting edge EP. Anyone but me got the Jellicoe album ?

I'm not balding !

Spokane

definitely needs to be much more known !

Rumskib are so beautiful...

I loved Bedhead

but not so the New Year...

Never really got Red House Painters.

Don't know why...

Great band

,very beautiful live...

For me

'I could live in hope' is a 10/10 and 'long division' 9/10.
Around that time they were just magical live...

Great great band.

A shame Damon & Naomi were so boring when I saw them a few days ago...

Now

this is more like the DiS I used to love...

nice interview

albeit a bit short.

The Do are awful

and I absolutely can't stand 'on my shoulder'...

We definitely need more things like that.

But I'm not convinced by the 3 bands...

La Cigale and le Grand Rex in Paris

headline gigs ( with no support both times... )

No.

I'm always serious.
Maybe they're better now, but the 2 times I've seen them, they sure weren't any good.
And I love their albums !

For me, they are a very boring band live

and this is a testament of it...
5/10

Have seen her play the new songs acoustically

a few days ago.
Can't wait for the album now !

This is my last hurrah on DiS.

After reading DiS for nearly 5 years, being a regular on the forum and even a profile collaborator, you might have noticed ( or not ) that I stopped posting ( even made a thread about it, how DiS it was ! ) as I was unhappy of what the site was turning into.

Your article really shows why I see no reason to come back :

« 1. We still love and believe in music. »

Who is we this days ? And the recent content isn't any proof of believing in music...

« 2. There's still a lot we can do better with the site (and hopefully the bulk of the problems have been fixed but many apologies for the continued teething problems - you can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs, etc...). »

Oh, you mean I won't log in 3 times before finally being able to read my PMs ?

« 3. We should focus on recommending the music we love and p'raps not lose the things we love amongst as many 6/10 reviews of bands no-one will ever hear of after reading the review.»

This is so fucking condescending ! Who are you to judge what is good enough to read about ? Who are you to think people aren't intelligent enough to read different kind of reviews and make their own mind. I've discovered a lot of bands through bad to barely good reviews. Who are you to think people should better listen to a band a writer gave 9 than a band a writer gave 6 to ? If the review is well written and informative ( which was usually the case on DiS but isn't happening with under-par quality writer like recent additions to the site like Mr Webb ), you might really want to listen to something even if the note isn't that good.

« 4. We love how the web allows you to do millions of different things and DiS would be greater if we could implement a myriad of technologies as part of our community and continue to be at the forefront of music on the web».

DiS was a music website concentrating about music and writing about music. People are well-versed enough on themselves to use all those myriad of technologies without DiS telling them what you do. Just concentrate on music, not on what the NME/Pitchfork likes or on what hype people use to listen to music, it was what made DiS great a long time ago now !

« 5 .We should embrace people's specialism (we're encouraging more columnists to step forward!). »

You should get demos, singles and small-sized albums reviews back. There's nothing like speciality, just diversity ! Have the more different people talk about as many bands as you can. People will find what they're interested into !

« 6. We all want to be able to hear more music and have the best stuff filtered out for us.»

Once again it's a bit condescending. Who wants filters telling him what to listen to ? I want passionate people talking about things they really have listen to ( either they liked it or not doesn't matter, as long as they talk well and precisely about it ). The more they are, the better, as the choice will be bigger and more diverse.

I might be in the minority of people still wanting to read about music. I might be of a time long gone when reviews were important. But what made DiS such an special website for me is now long gone.

I know the size of the site progressively made it impossible to talk at the same place of bands on which labels are investing tons of cash and local bands distributing their demos at local gigs. That's why I suggested a few months ago than the site should have two parts, mainstream and underground, so that DiS could continue to make what made it special : talk about everything. As it currently is, I'm not interested anymore.

Good luck with DiS sean, it used to be GREAT !

Great line-up !

Good work !
