Radiohead EP mystery solved a bit! Sort of! Maybe!

News by Andrzej Lukowski

Sometime around Friday lunchtime, nerdologists the web over had finally come to the definite, definite conclusion that there was definitely, definitely a Radiohead EP entitled Wall Of Ice due out today. We can't really be bothered to repeat exactly how th»

Gett OFF to Poland: a festival preview

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

While there are those who’ll merrily hold court for hours over how much the British festival scene has changed over the last 20 years or so, the erection of a fence near Pilton has got nothing on Poland, which has gone from Eastern Bloc austerity to gen»

Field Day 2009: the DiS review

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

Spurred on by the repeat mantra ‘there’s no way things can go wrong a THIRD year in a row', DiS’s Charles Ubaghs and Andrzej Lukowski headed down Victoria Park way last Saturday to sample the delights of this year’s capital-based Field Day festival. And barring some rain, things didn’t go wrong: bar queues? Nuh-uh. Lines for the toilet? Seemed pretty non-existent (or at least from a gruff, manly perspective). There were a few other issues, mentioned below, but here be our highlights.»

Supersonic 2009: The DiS Review

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

Capsule's best festival to date? We think it might be - certainly the Saturday of this year's Supersonic was as fine a run of music on a solitary day as we can remember in a jolly long while. Which means there is no room here to wax lyrical about awesome »

Win! A pair of weekend camping tickets for Sonisphere! Plus a free download EP!

News by Andrzej Lukowski

Any plans this weekend? No? Hmm. What's that? You'd rather hack your own face off than go to DiS's amazing Field Day after party at The Old Blue Last in London town on Saturday? Oh. Ohhhhhhh. That makes us sad. Oh what's that? You like the rock? And you »

Latitude 2009: The DiS Review

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

To paraphrase Billy Piper, Latitude is pretty much honey to the b for the middle class legions of the DiS writing team, and thus it was in considerable numbers that we fell upon this year's edition of the idyllic Suffolk festival. Here are our reviewers' highlights.»

Mercury Prize 2009 shortlist in 'mix of predictable and unpredictable announcements' SHOCKER

News by Andrzej Lukowski

It's that time of year when everyone in the indiesphere leaps onto the high horse of telling everyone else what is wrong with this year's Mercury Prize shortlist, charges round the racetrack of rigorously protesting how uninterested they are by said list, leaps over the fence of stating the obvious about some of the nominees not being that famous, and then probably heads off for a good feed in the stables of pointing out that M People won it once. So let's do that.»

Perdu sur la plage: DiS does Les Eurockéennes

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

DiS arrives at Les Eurockéennes , a long-running French festival that takes place in a stunning location on the peninsula of Malsaucy near Belfort, just a hop over the Swiss border. It is very nice here: located on a strip of land between two massive lakes, it sort of has a Latitude-ish size and prettiness. One of the stages is called La Plage and is, if anything, more delightful than that sounds. There are also bands.»

Glastonbury Diary 2009: Thursday

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

The morning commences with a light spot of rain, a mild grumble that the Guardian’s Guide includes no details of today’s bill (we’re continually a bit vague on what the exact legal status of this is – info about Thursday is remarkably hard to come by, to the extent we wonder if there’s something weird with the license), and a last connection to the internet on phone before monstrous veil of static descends (conspiracy theory #1 – festival sponsors Orange were SABOTAGING O2), which reveals the horrible news that Steven Wells has died. The first of several weird shocks this weekend, though sadly one of the more overlooked ones.»

Deerhunter, Rainwater Cassette Exchange

Deerhunter - Rainwater Cassette Exchange

Review by Andrzej Lukowski

Following a leak that stopped Weird Era... becoming the fan surprise Cox had intended, the ever-whimsical frontman at one point suggested he might scrap it entirely; it’s as well he decided not to, as quite aside from it actually being the better of the twin records, Weird Era... was clearly more emblematic of the direction the band are headed in, if new EP Rainwater Cassette Exchange is owt to go by.»
