yeah, it's great.
Should be a tasty record as well
There's a mixtape floating around that got released as a teaser
40 tracks, so it's a bit hit and miss, and it does re-use a lot of beats, but it's still Wu, y'know. Called 'Avenging Eagles'
Excellent news
that's one trippy looking promo shot. What is it with leftfield hip hop and masks?
Great review
Very interested in picking this up now.
There probably is
I think with the more harsh and abrasive stuff especially, there's a real difficulty with translating it, as most of the performers tend to be pretty charismatic - look at the ritualistic way in which Bower and Burial Hex tend to perform. It definitely adds something to the experience.
Just a note
I kinda reviewed this from the perspective of the average DiSer somewhat - I think it's a really great record, but it doesn't do anything which Skullflower haven't done before and doesn't have much appeal for someone who doesn't already love what they do. I have a feeling this may well figure in my end of year top ten, because I like this kinda of misanthropic noise quite a bit, but recognise that it definitely isn't for everyone.
Unfortunately it is
It has I Got A Love on it as well. Thank the powers that be for putting it on spotify though.
I love the Weston sessions, so natch can't wait to get my hands on an actual physical copy
Got love for Plastic Eggs.
Now can someone just re-issue Special Wishes? Yeah, that'd be great, huh?
Interesting comparison between this review and the one in Wire
Both taking different sides of the coin as to where that technical tautness leaves the listener. You get the feeling Wire wanted something more sprawling and expansive....
Definitely going to get that Oneohtrix Point Never record now.
Like what I've heard of that Black To Comm and Ambarchi as well.
Excellent
I love their Vampire Blues cover. Will be trying to make it to the London show.

I think if you're a 'pop' fan then the album is a dead format: there's simply not the ability to write great song after great song with an amazing hook and a killer chorus - just take Jay-Z's mainstream career as an example of that (I will fight to the death a) anyone who says he's written an album without at least 50% fluff since The Blueprint and b) anyone who claims he hasn't been the single best hitmaker of the decade).
But if you like weirdo rock music or crazed pyschedelic/heavy/experimental meanderings (hiya!) then the album remains the format of choice.
Maybe not, but it was sloppy whatever happened and deserved mentioning
They turned it around no doubt!
Oh my god, Oni and Pika crowdsurfed?
Shame I forgot my dirty mac. And didn't go to their set. D'oh.
Wonderful, wonderful record
I just put it on, and now I have to fix myself a drink and stay up until it finishes.
I don't really think this is a lost record...
Mainly 'cause I lauded it's praises back in august, so more fool anyone who didn't listen..
Nice review though...
Nuclear War might be one of my favourite songs ever
jealous.
Ah well, roll on 10 Years.
Looking forward to getting this
The single is fantastic. I think they're one of few bands who actually came back stronger than they started in some respects.
That 5th December show is pant-wettingly good
I'd pay just to see FlyLo and Broadcast
EEEEEEEE
for want of a better word. Mosvillain and Madvillain might just make up for the rather mediocre Doom LP.
I think I will be getting this.
Great review. Everyone seems to be moaning about Joy Fantastic. Maybe it's just that I haven't had much previous contact with him, but I think that it's a great track.
I like the sound of this
Heavy is good. Earth cameo appearance is better. Though City of Echoes really was terrible.
Luke, I'm very jealous
Love the digression about pedals....
why the dislike?
It's so massively fun. Andrzej has hit the nail on the head with the last paragraph
Curses!
Anyway, I really like this review. Good pyramid lead. It is a bit less immediate. The first album was all grwrarrarwarrarwraw and grabbed me in it's metallic jaws. This is smoother.
Totally amazing.
Less immediate than the predecessor, but even better when it clicks.
And oi, Andrzej, don't forget about my Invada Invasion review I sent you!
That APC record is my record of the month probably. Great review made me pick it up as well.
and of course, y'all should buy Thriller
Olympians does sound like the olympics.
I'm glad that's why it was named that way.
crap, that's what you get for writing a review without internet access
Will get that changed....
Didn't realise about the Thriller fact. My point still stands.
Nice to see Patrick Wolf contributing nothing of value to the debate
"WHY CAN'T EVERYONE JUST GET ALONG? HUG!"
As far as I remember, unfortunately not
that's a great song though.
completely superb turn of phrase ain't it?
Interesting review. I remember when they were touted as something a bit different to the usual. Never a fan really, but sad to see them going down this route.
oooh, D-7
I've actually never seen this. I probably should watch it.

I really agree with your comments in that sense
The production is the clunker on this one: I get the feeling that if they'd used a better producer then it would really be something special. But essentially they're hamstrung by the fact that they can't progress that much beyond their template: I can hardly seeing them do a Mastodon or a Baroness and start getting a bit less brutal, and I wouldn't welcome that if they did to be honest.
